  • Not bad tbh. Keep in mind that processor is very low power.

You can get various "sticks" with the same processor for around $100

    • yeah but if traveling it has keyboard rather than needing a hotel / dorm / services apartment room and keyboard .

  • Can it run Adobe Lightroom?

    • Think of this as a baytrail tablet in a laptop form. I don't use any of the Adobe product but I am getting the feeling that it is resource intense. If so, then it's probably not advisable?

      • i have the same processor in my TV Box …… recently upgraded to 8300 …….. they are ok for a single app e.g browser, or watch a movie, but not for running word and doing cut and pastes …… think chromebook market on steroids.

Better then a smart phone if living overseas for a few months.

since Adobe is in "the cloud" should work fine

      • +2

Adobe's processing wont be in the cloud

      • depends which part is in the cloud …… if it's like office 365, you download local copy if you want the speed, and only use the browser base version when desperate.

the cloud for your storage of you photos ……. lots of those solutions already.

Adobe products I use are photoshop elements and premier …… downloaded editions …… not sure how their cloud version work e.g like office 365 model or VDI model.

      • Nooooo. Lightroom runs like a dog on my xeon x5650 @3.8ghz, with a gtx970 (lightroom can also use your video card). I wouldn't contemplate this for any adobe product.

  • Looks neat but what would it be good for, how would you use it?

    Only 2GB RAM, 32GB HDD.

Seen cheaper, not long ago https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/227856

Can you explain the $25 voucher please

Reviews say no multi-touch, which is one of the saving graces of my similarly low-powered ASUS X205TA. Being able to scroll via the touchpad is like the ergonomic equivalent of upgrading to an SSD.

    • +1

buy a small mouse for when you need to do more more than what the touch pad can offer. Touch pads are a trade-off for when you don't have a mouse.

      • The touchpad is a trade-off for when there's nowhere ergonomic to put the mouse I already have, which is most of the time the way this laptop is used :)

  • Hmm I bought one of these for my grandparents recently.

It Boots and runs fast for basic things like Web browsing - thanks to the SSD.
Haven't tried to do too much with it though.

    Pretty happy with the price.

    • +1

that is the market they we're targeted at ….. to compete with Google chrome books …. but they are much better.

      • Better in that you have a full OS, but that processor has 70% of the speed of my Encore 8's - which performs like a slug compared to my Samsung 303 chromebook although I haven't yet tried the Sammy with a Linux install.
Horses for courses. The Office 365 adds a lot of values for many - I paid out for the toshy for its 'real' Office 2013
No USB3, none touch and low res would make me prefer a tablet with a bluetooth keyboard…

    • +1

It looks like eMMC storage, not SSD. I believe they're faster than a regular HDD, but slower than SSD.

    • That small screen for grandparents?

Anyway it is like ASUS T100 OK for browsing.

  • +1

could put neverware cloudready on this thing and it becomes even faster (ChromeOS software fork)

  • Makes me laugh.. the processor to buy is $18.. lol

    • +1

It was a price subsidised by Intel to get manufacturers to adopt Intel processors. That's why we see so many ridiculously cheap 7 inch Chinese android and Windows tablets going for as little as 60 usd using Intel.

That kind of price wouldn't have been possible if the processor had cost any more than a couple of dollars for the manufacturer to put in

  • Does anyone have a unused HN voucher? Apparently, they have stopped handing them out now.
