These used to be able to be used to purchase 3-year long terms. Those were a good deal.

    • its because of your bad fiscal policy they can't offer these good deals

Hopefully now that turnbull is here things will be better

    • I just started a dummy order and sucessfully added the promo code to a 3 year prepayment. I didn't go through to confirm payment but it looks like you can prepay 3 years worth. At the top of the table on this page are the prepayment options.

      • I tried the same on the economy ($5 per month - prepay 3 years) plan. Didn't work:
"The promotion code you entered has been applied to your cart but no items qualify for the discount yet - please check the promotion terms"

I need what must be about the most basic web site in the universe. 1mb storage, and maybe as much as 10mb traffic a month would be ample. I thought $2 would be a fair trade. But, it wasn't to be. I'll keep running it from my home computer.

(All it does is a few HTTP redirects like name.vanity.domain to LinkedIn profile and vanity.domain/dir to other site. No actual content)

        • I'm not a website guru, but do you need a hosting account for redirects? Is there a workaround using DNS/name servers through your domain service?

        • Same for me I just need a mail box so I host a domain for emails. Go daddy had a deal $12 for 12 months but I'm sure it will go up at renewal time

        • Create a free CloudFlare account to host your domains DNS. Then set up Page Rules (Forwarding) for the redirects - you can create 3 page rules on the free account.

        • @garage sale: actually that's completely different to hostng just redirects. To host a mailbox you need real storage space to house the email data files.

Have you looked into Google mail hosting your email domain? It is free for the first 5gb I think?

        • @PBG:

It's not free at all it's around $5/month

        • @Catalystic: oh sorry, my bad. I have only had friends use it and haven't tried it myself

        • @garage sale: Google used to be free, but not anymore. You can get free email from Zoho Mail, but the interface isn't as nice as GMail

          @PBG:

Sorry I didn't reply to this question, but the answer is no. I can redirect sub.domain.com to facebook.com, but not to facebook.com/profile. Similarly, I cannot redirect mydomain.com/url to anything.

But making these redirects with the HTTP protocol is trivial and uses basically no storage or bandwidth. In fact, there's probably a market for such a service if some entrepreneur wants to make such a thing.

        • @PBG: If you have VentraIP as your DNS provider you can set up domain forwarding which redirects http://yourdomain.com.au to the URL of your choice, without having to buy web hosting.

        • @Wraith: Did you look at CloudFlare? It does exactly what you want.

  • Yep those were a good deal however the maximum prepaid period now appears to be 1 year - still pretty good value IMHO

    Thanks OP.

Waiting for Net Virtue now to offer similar deal. :)

  • Can recommend Ventra as well.. too bad deal is not valid for existing customers though :(

There's a work around. I had a VentraIP business hosting account expiring at the end of last year, so in last year's VentraIP Customer Appreciation Week deal I sucessfully ordered a new business hosting with the 75% off discount for 2 years and then lodged a ticket to have them migrate my old business hosting to the new business hosting. I made no secrets about the transfer or why I had a new account and the support guys had no problems with the transfer and closing my old hosting.

You could give it a go I suppose.

        Thanks for that @PBG!

Really tempted to give that a try since I'm only paying month to month anyway.

  • Anyone know if this code will work for economy plans or only business? I'm using a trial business plan atm but it expires soon and im looking at transferring to an economy plan.

    • Give it a try with fake details. The promo code with either validate and give you the discount (before confirming payment of course) or reject with an error.

  • Isn't there another web host that is owned/run by ventraip that is budget/cheap? I can't remember the name but do recall another provider that was somehow related to vetraip but a budget/cheap provider.

      Zuver

    • +3

Yep, zuver. But for business hosting packages this VentraIP less 75% is much cheaper. For economy hosting in Australia you'd be hard pressed to beat zuver

      • When I first set up my hosting account, a client of mine (web designer) suggested Zuver but we were a bit worried about uptime/reliability regarding websites - thus I went VentraIP with great results.

But VentraIP is Zuver? They even say so??? Their economy plans run on the same servers
