Help Me Find a Blender

So my Sunbeam Multiblender pro I got about 3 years ago just died yesterday morning while I was making my usual breakfast green smoothie… so now I need to get a new blender. I went to Domayne, Good guys, Myer and David Jones today and I was overwhelmed by the tons of choices. I'm mainly using it for smoothie so I was thinking of maybe getting the Magic Bullet, Nutri Bullet or the Nutri Ninja. I don't want to pay excessive amount for it but if it's going to last me for several years then maybe I don't mind.

A few of the places I went seem to recommend the Breville the Boss to Go blender but it's quite expensive at $299. David Jones had it on sale for $239. The sales reps all said that this was the best coz the blender thing is metal on metal whereas the others were metal on plastic or plastic on plastic.

The other options I was thinking of getting the Nutri bullet or the Nutri Ninja 2 in 1 coz it has the food processor attachment too.

Anyway, I'd appreciate recommendations and where I can get a good price for them, should I wait till EOFY and maybe buy a cheapo one for now?

    by a cheapo now.

I bought a kmart $19 "nutri-bullet" a few months ago and it rocks for the price and smoothy-ness. and if it dies after 6 months then I'll just buy another.

    • they must have gone up in price, ours was $15 and is a year old, still going strong making banana smoothies - ice cubes, milk and banana. my sons brekkie drink with toast or crumpet with honey…

Although I agree with altomic about buying a cheapy, if the $19 'to-go' blenders aren't big enough for you then why not buy the same Submean Multiblender again? 3 years is not a lifetime, BUT they're only $52 delivered at Appliances Online, or $66 delivered for the stainless housing. Pretty cheap if you were happy with the last 3 years blending

the 'nutri' anything are normally just over hyped blenders. Compare watts of anything you look at.

I did a lot of research between the 3 you mentioned (Magic Bullet, Nutri Bullet or the Nutri Ninja) lets call them MB, NB & NN. MB & NB are made by the same company, NN is a different manufacturer. The research I did led me to believe the following:

MB - Can't blend ice, but is ok for soft fruits so your breakfast smoothies should be okay (250 Watts)
NB - Can only blend ice chips (600W and 900W versions)
NN - Can blend ice cubes (900W)

There is also a reported issue with the NB blades breaking up after a while.

I received an unsolicited MB for Christmas (otherwise known as a surprise gift) and after some research I decided to return it and buy the NN and this was the cheapest (delivered) price I found. I went with the NN because it is likely to be used for cocktails as much as smoothies, hence needs to be able to break up ice cubes.

If you want a fully functioning blender you will have to look elsewhere, these are only really suitable for your smoothies, although people do use them for other things.

  • We have a Kitchen Aid one and I wouldn't recommend it, so avoid that. The one thing I would say is make sure that the actual blending jug is glass, as just replacing those can cost a fortune and I've found the plastic ones can crack after a while (I found this with Breville in the past - not sure about the one you mentioned though).

  • My NB does ice cubes every day. Going strong after 6 months. Got it on sale at Coles for ~$70.

  • I've been using my blender mainly to make smoothies and usually what goes in my smoothie are frozen fruits and ice cubes and that's what had caused my blender to go kapish! Somehow crushing the ice was a bit too much work for the blender.

I also want to make frozen fruit sorbet in my blender - I tried it with my last one and it didn't seem to work at all so it would be good to have one that I can make various things with like smoothies, sorbet, etc.

    • I would recommend forgetting the old style blenders and going for one of the new Nutri Ninjas (or similar). I recently bought one after having to return two Sunbeam 1000w blenders (the base was impossible to screw off so you couldn't clean it properly) and will never go back. I got the Nutri Ninja slim which is 700w and it does a far better job than the 1000w large jug blender ever did. I use it to make smoothies all the time and stick frozen fruit chunks in that are blitzed into liquid easily. Woolies has them for $79 at the moment I think, the cheapest I've seen them was $69 at Woolies a few weeks ago.

  • Search for "will it blend" on YouTube for some blender test hilarity!

The Kogan Vitablast is good value for money, although it has been lower than its current price in the past

    • +1 I use mine with while nuts, ice and frozen fruits without any issues and its a lot cheaper than the nutri's.

      • I actually use an Optimum I bought from Froothie but gave a Kogan one as an Xmas gift. The Optimum looks the same as the Kogan one (same factory) but I think the parts on the optimum are better quality (less plastic).

  • Thanks everyone! I hadn't thought about Kogan actually…probably since I've never purchased anything from there but looking at your recommendations it looks like a good blender.
    Thanks again!
