Tonight we have the Teclast X98 Plus Dual OS Cherry Trail tablet for a good price.

This tablet comes with a fully licensed and activated copy of Windows 10 and Android 5.1. It has 64GB of inbuilt storage that leaves you with plenty of room for apps and files. The 4GB of RAM and Intel Cherry Trail processor ensures that it runs smoothly.

In comparison to the X98 Pro, the battery life has been improved and it now runs much cooler without throttling.

It's only $185.99 US (~$265 AU) using the coupon TECLASTX98 and as usual TNT Express Shipping has been discounted to around $4 US.

Please note: This is on presale and will be in stock on the 30th of Jan.

Looks nice - now I am tempt to buy one.

  • How's the warranty/replacement/repair side of things? Looking for a tablet but uneasy buying one online. (Plus any LTE versions?)

    • +2

You would need to send the tablet back for repair/replacement. Paypal can pay for return postage if you activate the feature here and Auspost accepts lithium batteries as of Nov 30.

There currently isn't one with 3G/4G either.

  • Hey Op, any additional discount on the combo tablet + bluetooth keyboard + leather stand case? Thanks!

    • +1

The ones on the page are already discounted. If you click on them individually you'll see their normal price.

i miss the strong Australian dollar… about 65 bux outside of my budget…

  • shame its got no GPS :( why would you cut something like this out???

I have the Air 3G which has Bay Trail. It's not much slower than Cherry Trail.

But let me warn you, although it runs Android fine, the Windows 10 mode is very laggy. It is full desktop Windows, and the mobile CPU just can't keep up. Out of the 60GB available, 40GB is for Windows and 20GB for Android. If you're only using the Android version, you can't see the 40GB Windows partition, and vice versa. 20GB is not much, and some of it is used up by the OS.

The Windows mode is more or less unuseable for me. I doubt this newer tablet is going to be significantly better.

    • +3

The CPU probably isn't just the bottleneck, I think it's the 2GB of RAM that's severely limiting Windows performance.

With 4GB of RAM no doubt Windows will run better than your current Air 3G tablet that only has 2GB of RAM.

I do agree though the new architecture doesn't bring much in terms of CPU IPC, but it does make a bit of a difference to media consumption and gaming — the graphics are significantly improved.

      • I hope so.

I tried running some 10-bit videos in both Android and Windows. The Android OS ran it smoothly, but the same video in Windows mode was very choppy.

Thanks for the info might wait for the yovo i9 it has an m3 cpu
is pretty much a clone of surface pro 4 m3 half the price at around 650

      • I can't find yovo i9 in Google. Where is it?

        • +1

          Search for Cube i9.

        • Sorry got brands mixed up yes cube i9
The voyo is a TV box I was looking at

      • +1

Triple the price of this deal (and relatively low-res screen.)

        • It's double the speed the m3 is crazy fast
The screen is 1080p and anything above dose look great but uses more battery so I'm happy with 1080p (1200p)
Anyway just thought I'd throw it in the mix for people looking for something faster

    • scrimshaw is right about the increased RAM making it run better. Unlike the Air 3G, this is using faster eMMC storage and now supports high speed microSD cards. Before they released the Dual OS version there were a few slowness issues with opening and running applications, but it was fixed with several BIOS updates.

      • The Air 3G had eMMC too.

Well the 2GB RAM might definitely be a bottleneck, but I don't know for sure that the Atom CPU won't also be. I personally think they should not have included full Windows, but some RT version that phones use.

It's just a word of warning to consider until someone gives hands on impressions that confirm it won't be choppy. I'm not taking any risks with mobile CPUs for desktop Windows.

If you're after just Android, it's a great priced tablet. Except that 66% of the on board storage won't be useable in Android..

        • All tablets have eMMC. Like SSDs there are different brands and models with speeds varying between them. It's weird that you've found it choppy as a lot of reviews found it quite fast. Were you running a lot of intensive programs or something?

Techtablets did a review on the Windows version and they seem to be quite happy with it.

        • @Clear: No, just for simple tasks like opening folders, going to settings.. there was a very noticible lag. But again, I was using Air 3G, not this tablet. This should be an improvement, but I'm also going to be wary with full windows on Atom processors.

    • Interesting. I've never experienced any issues with Windows 10 on Bay Trail (I currently use a Teclast X80HD tablet) so I'm wondering what could be the issue. But the extra RAM should make things far better.

      • How do you find the battery life and brightness on the X80HD? I have been eyeing it up after my Venue 8 Pro charging port broke.

        • Battery life is around 4-6 hours depending on what I'm doing on it. I found the brightness fine - it's not the brightest tablet I've ever used but its pretty good. You can see some of my photos of it on Home Theatre Life to get an idea.

FYI, there is a top rated seller on Ebay (67 trades at 100% feedback) selling this for $121 AUD delivered

Worth a crack given paypal protection if you are considering.

    • I looked into the suggestion items and saw this
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/11-6-inch-Teclast-X16-Pro-2-in-1-…
Might be better with 12" display. Thinking of buying one as 10" is a bit small for a windows tablet.

      • Could these be a pricing error? So cheap compared to what others OS are selling these Teclast tabs.

Whats the deal if the seller decides it was a price error? Ebay forces them to complete the transaction?

I already have a Teclast x89 but would be thinking about upgrading at this price.

        • I don't know, 5 already sold so might not be pricing error.

    • +1

That's the Pro version that I mentioned in the description. The battery life is about 4 hours and has serious heat issues which causes the CPU to throttle and become slower than an Atom Z3735.

      • How about the x16, is it any good?

        • Same processor and lack of heat dissipation like the X98 Pro.

      • +1

so the pro version has a more powerful chipset (Z8500) is that what causes the issue ? and why to avoid ?

        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Teclast-X98-Pro-Dual-OS-Windows-1…

        • +1

Yes the more powerful chipset draws more power and produces more heat. Taipower didn't do anything to properly disperse the heat.

  • If I was about to go travelling, this would be an absolute no-brainer.

Until then, Clear, push your factories for a 10-13", Windows, 4k'ish resolution unit. I want a nice photo frame for holiday snaps to bright up my terrifyingly dull cubicle. It has to do my photos justice.

    • With the poor exchange rate it is probably better for you to buy a Microsoft Surface 3. I saw some of the newer Teclast Power convertibles and they come to around 400 to 500aud which is not worth while for a Chinese tab. Too much risk and no warranty.

      • And that site is owned by Gearbest ;)

    Does this handle Remix OS?

    • +1

Remix OS was made available for the X98 Air 3G and II previously, so it should be available sometime in the future.

  • Expiry???

    • 1 month from time of posting.

  • +1

Looking at ordering one… And thinking that since it is not going to be shipped for the next 2 weeks anyway due to Chinese New Year so might as well wait just in case the price drops further…

    • +1

I'm not sure if orders are being shipped this week, but I do know a lot of staff have this week off. The coupon still has 20 days left, so waiting another week is safest.

  • Ordered a Ainol Mini PC from GeekBuying after a deal on this forum, I had it a week before it broke. They had the item back since the 28th December, now two months on its still not fixed and no return item has been sent. Order number#3479822.

DO NOT BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE, they'll happily take your money but provide no support.

    • +1

Rather than spamming on every post of mine, why don't you ask for help?

I'll speak to someone and find out what's going on.

  • FYI it's still about the same AU$ (US$195.)
