Harris Markets online shopping - warning - don't bother unless you want to waste money... (Drummoyne or Glebe Harris Market)

So I took advantage of the Amex offer to order online from Harris Markets. A few dodgy items that I received:

  • San Pellegrino 6x330ml cans were exchanged for 6x200ml bottles (not really sure how this is equivalent when I got 780ml less of the drink which is what I bought them for…)

  • A brie cheese which looked like it had been cut a couple of weeks ago (dark brown/grey under the rind, dry)

  • Plums which went concave on touch (when you want them to last the week you don't want to receive them over ripe)

Overall the fruit and vegetables could have been fresher - I like to pick my own because I know what I'm looking for, but if you're packing someones order you should pick their fruit and veg like you would for yourself, rather than giving them the dregs you can't sell people in person.

Last online order I'll do from them.

Edit: just updated as people's reports from other areas sound like there is no issue. I'm in the Balmain area, so my local would be either Drummoyne or Glebe.

    Satisfaction guarantee

doesn't change what was delivered, but at least you won't have to pay for it (albeit that it is credited back tour account as opposed to a refund)

I ordered on previous Amex deal. Nothing wrong with the produce, equal quality to Colesworth.

    • Thanks for the heads up! :) I had a previous online order (the last $100/$50 cashback Amex) where they just forgot to add one of the items that I'd ordered (I think it was a goats cheese or something?) and the store rep really pressured me to just get an online shopping credit, which I thought was a bit dodgy, especially when it was an item that I'd paid money for but never received. I think in the end I asked for a refund for the amount, but the rep was very hesitant. Should have not bothered this time but wanted to give the benefit of the doubt.

  • I've ordered online with Harris Farm heaps of times (the previous AMEX deal x 6 cards) and the quality was far superior to Coles/Woollies. Plus when delivering every order the driver gave us a 6 pack of San Pellegrino for free saying "and here is a little token of our appreciation for ordering with us".

I guess it depends on your local store/order picker. But yes you should be getting a refund under your satisfaction guarantee asap

    • Must be a problem with my local store! :) Also I've never online ordered with Coles/Woolies so I guess my expectations could be too high!

Anyway I'm in Balmain, so I'm guessing my local store is Drummoyne or Glebe.

      • I wonder if another OzBargainer can provide their experience with that local store. FWIW my local is the chatswood store.

Same here, ordered heaps of times and never got disappointed (Manly Store). Whenever there is a product unavailable, the personal shopper will give me a call on my mobile to see if I'm fine with a replacement or prefer a refund.

Haha… I'm definitely in the wrong area then!

      • I guess so :)

Why not trying raising your concerns to Harris Farm head office? It's not a franchise so the store managers need to be upholding company values across all stores. Worth a shot!

  • Harris Farm online is a joke. I took advantage of the Amex deal last year, and received an online credit voucher from them as they refused to process a refund. I ordered a few cheeses from the catalogue, and was due a refund because of the weights. For the first 3 orders to have no delivery fee, you must spend min of 80 dollars per purchase, otherwise there is a delivery fee. Late last year, I decided to use my online credit voucher, and I discovered that they have a $5 dollar click and collect fee. My closest store is St Ives, but I had to go to Boronia Park for my click and collect. The goods were ok, but the outfit is shonky!! You are expected to buy online from them for the rest of your life at 80.00 minimum purchase to avoid delivery fees, and your inbox is filled with spam emails from them. Guess who the Harris Farm rep in this forum is?? There is no Chatswood store listed on the Harris Farm website, the closest to Chatswood is Willoughby. The $5 click and collect fee is outrageous, but cheaper than their delivery fee. The other thing about Harris Farm online is that the stores are cheaper, and have specials, e.g. click on the wholesale link, and check the price of a box of oranges. At the time I checked last year, the box of oranges online was 30 plus, and in the store about 14 dollars. I would advise anyone to avoid shopping online with Harris Farm, unless you fully intend to spend 80 dollars plus each time to qualify for the first 3 deliveries to be free.

I ended up getting an outright refund for an item which was never delivered the first order I made, though the store pressured me to get a store credit saying that I wouldn't qualify for the Amex bonus if I got a refund.

I got the refund and still qualified for the Amex bonus (I think as it had already been credited to my account.)

      • Amex can debit you for the credit to zero it out.

LOL. I guess you think I am a Harris Farm rep? Sorry I wrote 'Chatswood' instead of 'Willoughby', it's on High Street the border of the two suburbs. If you live in St Ives you probably don't venture much outside your own community to know that. Just because I've had good experiences with a business and voice my opinion you think I am affiliated. Tsk tsk tsk.

If you really have ordered from Harris Farm "heaps of times" as you stated, then you would be aware that my criticisms are true, especially the $5.00 click and collect fee. As for your "6 pack of San Pellegrino for free" with every order, I am calling BS on that as well. Why don't you edit that out as well, and address my criticisms of Harris Farm online. Has anyone else who has responded in this forum received a six pack for free with every order? Harris Farm staff probably refer to the Willoughby store as Chatswood to imply a more upmarket address.

        • keep it civil gents
this is a public forum not a place to argue

  • I'm in the Hornsby area and have always been happy with the quality. Fruit and vege have been really fresh and crisp. When I ordered meat, it came in a nice cooler bag with a bag of ice to keep fresh. When they didn't have an item in stock, I got a call to ask whether I was happy with changing to another product or refund straight into my Paypal account. Its a bit more expensive but you're paying for the convenience - seriously, 12 bottles of sparkling water, large watermelon, rock melons, other heavy stuff delivered straight to your front door - awesome. Not to mention the time saved driving to and from the shops, finding parking, navigating the aisles, waiting for check out, etc etc.

Yes - except my experience doesn't reflect that. And even though its nice that they have a returns policy, the returns policy asks you to return the product. If you've bought online to save a trip to the shops, you don't end up saving any time.

Made couple of purchases and the lesson I've learned was only order things that are packaged and doesn't involve picking/weighing. Had to cancel one of my orders because the pork ribs I was after weight less than what it's supposed to and the order become less than $100. They did pull the yeah we'll give you ONLINE credit…errr no thanks.
