[QLD] Cineplex - Movies Never More than $8.50 (2D), $11 (3D), $12.50 (Deluxe)

280

$12 is cheap for a trip to the movies? Tell them they're dreaming.

If you live in Brisbane, there's no reason to support the rip off artists Event/BCC.

Cineplex prices are never more than $8.50 (2D) or $11 (3D) and even cheaper depending on the day/time.

Heck, deluxe where you can order beer and food is only $12.50.

I'm sure lots of OzBargains already know about this great place. But for those who don't, now you do.

EDIT:
Protip from markis. $2.70 choc tops ice-creams.

    Yep wouldn't go anywhere else.

  • That is cheap. Wish we had something like this in Victoria.

  • Cineplex is ok but most of the theatres are fairly run-down/worn out, dirty (the Southbank one definitely has a distinctive smell) and if you go to a popular movie you're packed in with other movie-goers. The screens are also on the small side (apart from the IMax one).

Having a bit of space, nice/clean seats and decent sized screens is worth the $2.50 to me.

The Hawthorne one is pretty old, but the others are fine. Not sure what smell you're talking about at South Bank. The screens at Down Bank aren't any smaller than the non-Vmax screens at Event either.

      • Hawthorne was an experience but not a bad one, for me.

    • Just go to the balmoral ones. Have always found them to be big and clean enough.

Hawthorne main cinema is massive but the seats are so uncomfortable. The other screens there are tiny.

      • Last time I went to Balmoral I was in a theatre where the seats on both sides were angled in and not facing forwards. Was a bit weird and not too comfortable! Screen was also smaller and had to line up for 20 minutes for tickets and then 20 minutes to get a choc top (best thing about Cineplex is the cheap candy bar! :D).

        • They are also opening a new cinema at Redbank Plaza later this year.

        • had to line up for 20 minutes for tickets

Buy your ticket online, then go to one of online booking machines, type in your 6 digit confirmation code, and it will print your ticket for you. Easy, quick, and you don't even have to interact with another human being if that's your thing.

The Victoria Point is still one of the largest screens in QLD

    • the Southbank one definitely has a distinctive smell

I have been to the Southbank cinemas probably 40 times in the last few years. Never had an issue with how clean it was. Only issue was the number of ads before the movie, which would sometimes be up to 45 minutes in length (including trailers).

if you go to a popular movie you're packed in with other movie-goers

Really? A popular movie for considerably cheaper than other nearby cinemas is busy? This is to be expected.

I mean I no longer live near Southbank and pay over double the price to go to Event now, which is worth it as I have a job, but as a student the Southbank cinemas were the best!

      • I've been to cineplex over 100 times and never seen trailers+ads go for more than 20 minutes

        • Really? The 45 minute one was an outlier but it's never less than 25 minutes.
Just checked my emails and I've seen at least 50 movies between 2012 and 2016. 98% at South Bank.

  • Popcorn and drinks are actually reasonably priced too.

  • $2.70 for a choc top is always a hit too

Maybe put SE QLD in the subject?

Been a member for 8 years, but still can't post the perfect deal :(

      Thanks for the tip :)

      • good job mate. :)

Fantastic post. Cineplex deserves a medal for making movies in Brisbane extremely affordable for decades.

    Popcorn is cheap as too.

I personally would never go to the movies if it wasn't for them. I see no value in spending over $50 for me and my partner to see a movie a few months before it it hits download.

      • There was a point were me and my housemate were seeing a movie a week, which we loved.

  • I think the main difference is that at event cinemas you get seat allocation whereas cineplex (at south bank at least) is a free for all first in best dressed. However, I don't think there is anywhere else you can get $5.50 tickets for students (2D, off-peak times).

I hate the reserved seating with a passion. The most ridiculous system. First in, best seats is the way to go.

      • I disagree. If I book my tickets first, I should get first pick not have to turn up 30 mins early. Plus, I've been at Cineplex South Bank and they've turned ticket holders away inside the theatre as it's full. Some jerks buy tickets for random movie and walk into the sell out!

Uni students actually have $6.50 movies all the time 2d/non-event at myer centre cinemas all year around.

      • Don't forget Indooroopilly too!

I go to cineplex nerang. No complaints and the price movies should be.
    Food prices are also great.

I've been going almost exclusively to cineplex for almost 10 years. However, I really don't think this qualifies as a deal. Would be better mentioned in comments on the other deal or as a forum post.

In other words, this is normal price and used to be cheaper as they obviously have to increase prices over the years. I mean, technically this is the most expensive it has EVER been :-p I won't neg, but I'm surprised deal hasn't been moved to forums yet.

I do get your point. But, these guys have never been posted before (very surprising), so this is the cheapest it's ever been on ozbargain ;) 'Normal' price is ok so long as it's cheaper than competitors' 'normal' price. I'm sure jv will be along soon to say otherwise but.

      • +2

Yeah I think with all the other cinema deals on here today and yesterday that this can be considered a deal given its a cheaper price for the same thing.

        • but it's not a 'deal' as it's the regular price

  • You also get to watch a FREE movie after 5 movies. All you need to do is get the voucher stamped when you buy tickets

    • +1

      What Voucher?

  • But these are the regular prices and not a bargain?

Last time i went to south bank these two guys next to me messaged girls and chatted the whole movie. Cineplex is like jetstar. Expect heaps of bogans and too cool for school kids. Other than that, the lack of reserved seating and the extremely long trailer times, it's fine.

  • I highly recommend limelight cinemas in Ipswich at the riverlink shipping centre.

    $9.90 adult. $7.90 kids
