Vacuum Sealer Vs Cling Wrap

Hey guys,
I am weighing up the option of a vacuum sealer vs cling wrap.
I freeze about 20kg meat (half dog food (raw kangaroo), then my food for the week.

Im trying to weigh up the option what one i should get.
Is there big pros of a vacuum sealer compared to cling wrap?
One problem i find with cling wrap for raw meat if i thaw it out it gets bloody juices on the outside of the bag.

Anyone?

  • IMHO ask yourself this… Which has been around longer - vacuum sealers or cling wrap? Being a OZB also ask yourself which is the cheaper option? ;)

Good things we keep using for decades.. Fads come and go!

Hope that makes your mind up!

vacuum sealers have been around longer the glad wrap havent they.
meat etc has been in cryobags (vac sealed) for yonks. home use may be new I guess.

  • Thanks Mr Rort.
    Good point,
I was thinking for freshness or maybe size to store more in there, like when i get meat i cling wrap it in a ball and the shape makes me not fit a lot in there, but yeah i could do that.

vacuum sealer costs a fair bit in the consumables.
use gladwrap or even large zip bags.

  • Why not use plastic containers?

  • I use sandwich bags. But I'm not dealing with the quantities you are.

  • My vote is either plastic containers or ziplock bags.

    Great for Liquid's As Well

very Un-Ozbargin but If you have or Friend has Costco membership can buy 4Pk of 38 Gallon bags for Under 40.00

  • I love my vacuum sealer. It seals down to the smallest size and there is never freezer burn.

  • consumer grade vacuum sealers can at most seal 280mm(w) vac bags. i've a commercial/industrial that can do 600mm(W).

cutting dog food or a kangaroo in small piece is pain.

  • Don't waste your money if your turn around is one week.

Generally the purpose of vacuum sealers remove the air and seal the contents from the fridge environment so food can be stored for an extended period and to prevent freezer burns.

If you are concerned about leakage do some research and buy better quality freezer bags.
