Excelair - 40cm Pedestal Fan with Remote $47.20

I bought this fan during their previous 20% off ebay sale for $55.20

Contrary to other's claim that Bing Lee jack up their prices prior to their sale, this one actually dropped $10 to $59, now $47.20.

Fan is unique to me due to its oscillation speed, most fan's oscillation speed is dependent on the fan speed setting, this fan operates independently from the fan speed setting, and it's quite slow compared to normal fans so you get even spread of air even in the middle zone.

For this price, you're getting a fan with a large strong base for its stand, other remote pedestal fans have weak metal legs that bend and break easily, like the one I bought from Bunnings. Other remote controlled pedestal fans on ebay go for $64+ with similar strong stands.

Not similar, the base is completely different to the one posted. Not sure how strong the base is for the big W one, but for that price, you can't expect much.

      • I have on bought it during reward card $10 off.

        No problem with the base.

  • No offense but I've got a 40cm fan from Coles (IIRC, or Kmart?) one of the two, right in front of me that cost me $13…
I wouldn't pay over $20 for a standing fan nowadays, it's ALL cheap chinese crap and ALL of them bust in 2 to 5 years, so don't buy an expensive one.

    • No offense taken.

Does it have a remote control?

Is its stand comparable to this one?

I bought a $10 pedestal fan from Bunnings, still functioning flawlessly after 4 years, no remote and base is weak.

      • Sounds pretty good for $10! Dunno about the quality of this one but I think I'd rather buy that $10 from bunnings ands pocket $37.20. I know masters sell a similar one for $12 too - pretty good.

Either that or I'd rather buy 4x of the Bunnings/masters ones for the same price as this and have the air coming from all 4 directions ;)

But when it's time to turn them off (all four) you'll have to walk to each one and switch them off individually and if you happen to trip over one of them, it may be a domino effect on the rest :)

once you get one with a remote (with timer) you never go back.

        • @mr kindface:

+1 especially you want it to turn off by itself after you sleep.

      • Must admit, no remote!

      • I too bought a cheap fan from Mitre 10 when they had some for $5 or $10. It was cheap and your comments couldn't be more accurate. It blew wind around alright but someone stepped on the base and it became useless.

I actually found one on my street one night and this isn't remote controlled but the base is incredible and I'd pay more for one now knowing what I do about the flimsy metal bases. Remote is an added bonus. I don't know if it's worth the difference in price but I know that with small appliances, these seemly small features are what set the price apart.

        • That's why I posted this deal, I've learnt never to buy a fan with a crappy stand, it does make a difference.

Prior to buying this one, I had to throw a fan away, perfectly good fan, but without a stand, it's useless.

    • I got $13 fan and $30 fan,
$13 fan is shorter (can not extend as much as $30 fan),
      vibrate when turning,
noisy than the expensive version. Yes they both made in China, prob same factory :)

remote control = "kids, turn up the fan!!!"

  • "dad..why can't you buy one with a remote?"

  • Sticks, they are the original universal remote, the one stick works excellently on my fan and radio.
I could probably turn my computer on with it but I believe in getting a bit of exercise, it helps justify eating more chips.

  • Regarding the one from Big W…
Big W and Masters had these with remote last year, but the ones at masters were rebadged with a different name and were sold on a sale for about $19.00.
There was a thing here on Ozbargain about them actually.
My local had them for $9.00.

I bought 2 of them and they are great. I kid you not. Wish I got a couple more as back ups now.
Seriously good airflow and they kill the pricier one we got from the inlaws as a gift and that has no remote too.
I'm a shift worker, so the remote is so handy if i wake up in the middle of a sleep and it's getting hot and the remote is beside me. Same if it starts to get a bit too cool.

The fan does feel cheap and the stand looks flimsy, but I haven't had an issue with either and they've both been used a fair bit. One gets moved from room to room with the kids and it hasn't fallen over yet.

  • What's the noise on this fan like? Does it compare to the mitsubishi pedestal fans?
