BWS Mates Beer of the Month - 6 x 355ml Bottles of Sapporo for $12

210

Looks like the days of $10 six packs may be over :(

Still $12 for Sapporo isn't too shabby.

These arent the REAL japanese Sapporos FYI. They come from Canada.
The taste is distinctly different. Try a REAL sapporo from Japan in a Japanese resturant. (They usually have Japanese writing on the front)

But ok deal I guess, not as good as the $10 ones. I still have a few of them left from last time.

  • Actually I think $12 isn't that great. The AUD has been getting stronger and stronger against the CAD in the past 18months…. It is costing BWS less to bring in the beer… and they are selling it for more $$$.

    • I have the same gripe! With our strengthening A$ what's the need to raise the cost by A$2??

I know there was a shake up to alcohol taxes but I recall reading that it would only affect a case of 24 by about A$2. So shouldn't a six pack only go up by like 50cents? Wouldn't it be something they could adsorb easily with the strengthening dollar?

Still, this isn't a bad beer. No where near the Sapporo from Japan.

Just had a blue bottle of Ginga Kogen today. Was worth the A$6 I paid though! What a beer!

  • Dan Murphys often sells these by the slab for around $40 or under if you don't mind buying more than a 6 pack

Tried these, taste nothing like the ones in Japan. I bought a 6 pack a while ago, have a few gulps and thought it tasted a bit funny, because I didn't think Sapporo was like that. Read the label, and "Made in Canada"…… Utterly disappointed. (But then again, it's better than VB lol)

dunno wat the real japanese ones taste like, but these do me just fine, its one of my favourites its the only 'beer of the month' i like from bws. Btw vb is awesome

  • I thought only the cans were Canadian? Every Sapporo bottle I've ever had (inside and outside of Japan) was from Japan. Asahi cheats by producing their export beer in Thailand. Kirin available here is made in Australia.

    • I can definitely taste the difference.

I went to the Asahi Beweries in Japan and it was sooo awesome. Tried their normal brew as well as black asahi and half and half.
Also went to the Kirin breweries in Japan, it was pretty good too.

Yep the back of the Sapporo's will say "Made In Canada" as opposed to the REAL Japan ones which are bewered in Japan say "Made In Japan".

    • Nope, buy one from BWS or Dan Murphy's and read the label - "Made in Canada". Doesn't taste nearly as good.

The ones in most Japanese restaurants in Australia are usually the genuine Made In Japan stuff.

  • Try webisu or Yebisu. Get it from your local Jap food store. Imported full malt

Still an awesome beer though. Can't go wrong with $2 each.
