Hi I'm thinking of getting a good air conditioner after giving up with the heat . I'm thinking of an air conditioner that can work as a heater too please. We have a 4 bedroom house but the 3 rooms can seperate with a door so majorly need something that will cool a big sitting area and master bedroom and heat the house when needed. Thanks in advance .
Good Air Conditioner with a Good Deal ?

Good advice.
Most brands will do the cash back thing, however only in winter to move stock.
Fujitsu like most brands only offer a 5 year warranty.
For my money, I'll get a Panasonic, the current range is suppose to be superior to Fujitsu (I've had 3 Fujitsu splits installed 3 years ago).
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is also a top product.
I also wouldn't touch the Korean or no brand ones, although Samsung's wifi connection is a great feature.
I have 8 Years with our new Panasonic - 5 years factory and free 3 years when purchased from Good Guys, JB Hifi, retravision (deal not on now though)
any recommendations for a small 2br apt?
When we bought the place, it came fitted with aircond/heater unit - but it's a heater at best. Totally did squat over the hot summer days. :/ CHANG HONG! Never heard of them. Very frustrating.
panasonic, and good guys has cash back.
Get around 4.5-5KW and it will cool the whole place down. panasonics site will recommend what size to buy.only options seem to be 3.2, 3.7 and 6.0kw …
And you're sure it costs ~ $600 to install ? :(
@bluedufflecoat:Yep about that price.
What did the Panasonic size say for the size you need.
@PVA: 7.0 :( but I guess I was going for cooling the entire apartment and not just the living room. It's not that big, I think about 50m2.

get the 7kw then, but Good Guys or JB hifi will tell you the correct size if you tell them the floor size..
7kw is around $1800 plus install, power use is good - has sensors to know if its daylight, people in the room, peoples movements etc and ajusts cooling to suit (eg at night you dont need it to cool as much so it raises the temp a degree, or if you sit around you dont need it cooling as much as if you are moving a lot.
our 7kw is great.@PVA: aside from the cost,I think I don't have enough wall space to install a 7kw one. I looked at the one we've got now, it's 1.25kw. Of course it doesn't do the job on a 37 degree day, much less a 44 degree day.
@bluedufflecoat:
You may find that the size is not much different. Cheapie brands usually have huge inside units compared with brand names.
You may not need 7kW but 1.25 will be good for your toilet only.@PVA: Hahahhaha! And I even got the brand wrong. Chunlan it was, not Chang Hong! :P
@bluedufflecoat:
the store will recommend the correct size you need, go and chat with them.
Nothing worse than a stinking hot day and night and no air con.
Here you go from Good Guys - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/230930
Thanks a lot guys , just love the team work on getting good deals and the advice.
Can't comment on heater side of things, sorry, but living in FNQ we have a lot of experience with buying and servicing aircon units and we've always done well with Fujitsu. Fujitsu does a money back deal up here every 6 months or so.. usually it's about $200 cashback off of around 800-900 bucks for a small/medium unit. They also have a 7 year warranty which is pretty good. The installation is the expensive part.. at least as much as the unit to have it done right, regardless of the brand.
I've got a friend who's an aircon engineer of about 40 years and he strongly recommends Panasonic or Fujitsu. He prefers not to touch anything Korean, and def. not LG ('Low Grade' he calls it).
Suggest you measure up the space(s) you want to cool/heat and see what size you'll likely need. It all seems to depend on the size of the space you need to cool/heat. There are a few calculators out there online to help you with this. If you go with split systems you'll probably be better off with a couple of smaller systems (e.g. one for the master and one for the lounge).
