Will it make my computer crash?

      • Is drone piloting considered aviation?

Title should say "Online-only access to …".

      Gonna build a 1:1 papercraft A380 outta these…

      (Digital Only)

      D'oh!

1st issue has an exclusive interview with the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk.
    Nice find TA.

I think this one flew Wright over everyone's head ;-)

Actually the Wright brothers weren't the first to fly. It's been proven that a German guy named Gustave Whitehead was first.

There is also enough conspiracy in this finding to make even the staunchest conspiracy theorist get excited. A lot of cover ups and dodgy dealings to cover this up!!

      • Too early for most.
(Re: Gustave, you should write the screenplay and send it to Spielberg.)

        • Not sure if you are saying it's fiction or with regards to the background.

          http://www.gustave-whitehead.com/

It was a mate of mine who now lives in Germany who found this out. The flight was actually photographed and printed in newspapers. The Smithsonian and various other bodies went to great lengths to try and prevent him publishing or lecturing on this. Fortunately Janes aviation backed him and their newest annual has an intro about it.

As for a story, well it takes a lot of influential people to cover up something like this.

I'm pretty sure there will be a movie sometime in the future!

        • @slipperypete: Awesome read, thanks mate

And let's not forget our NZ buddy - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Pearse

        • Didn't know of him, however Whitehead flew in 1901

        • +1

@slipperypete: amazing all these flights took place around the same era, and quite distant from each other.
          But Whitehead seemed advanced.
          Good link Pete.
Yes, a movie would be good, and with a conspiracy to boot.

      • Very interesting to read about Pete.

worth mentioning that you have to read the articles online - no offline options available such as download as pdf or epub.

    • You can make a download script if you can be bothered. Each page is stored as an jpeg image with URL
      http://archive.aviationweek.com/image/spread/yyyymmdd/page/0
where yyyymmdd is the issue date and page is the page number.

      • How would this work?

I think this offer will really take off!

  • The content is readable for 2016 only…

    • I've viewed articles from 1916, 1989, 2015 and 2016. Site is slow. Perhaps they're having trouble coping with load. (Ozbargained, or wider promo).

      • i mean membership and articles read is only for use in 2016 only.

        • I am not sure about that. The url I quoted above is not protected. In fact you don't need to sign up to download the images.

        • Well you have all year to get PDFs of the ones you want.

  • A little light reading on the long trip to Mars.

    • Hopefully SpaceX has good deals for on-board WiFi

  • Thanks TA, great find

I am very interested in aviation so this is a top resource

  • lostislamichistory.com/pioneers_of_aviation/

  • I have signed up and logged in but I can't find the link to the 100 year archive?

  • Can you download the PDFs for each year?

I really appreciate this TA. My Father has worked in Aviation for over 40 years. He has since retired a couple of years ago and works at the Aviation museum as a volunteer every now and then. I told him and he is going to get some of the archives there, really interested in the information.

    Thanks again.

    • It seems that the archive is accessible in an online-only format, with each page of each magazine displayed as an image.

      • Yep I assume I'd have to download each Jpeg file.

  • Come fly with me let's fly let's fly away.

Thanks, OP! What a treat for aviation enthusiasts.

Here's something I'd like to contribute: Every edition of sci-fi magazine Starlog for free:

    https://archive.org/details/starlogmagazine

    • Thank you - I have most of these issues in boxes in storage but it's great to be able to read some of the ones I missed!

  • Thanks, started to download some issues and so easy to archive them in a .rar and rename to .cbr and read in my comic reader, even on my phablet.

    • Are you downloading all issues?
