10% off Apple Computers at JB Hi-Fi

560

As Dick Smith is unlikely to be offering 10% off Apple products anytime soon, JB Hi-Fi are starting to muscle in on the market with 10% off Apple products until 17th January 2016.

        • @itsMartin: Don't have an Apple Store in my town unfortunately, there is a Next Byte

        • @itsMartin:

          8GB is so 2007… 16GB+ is where it's at!

        • @itsMartin: Could you clarify what you mean by the pricematching of the 8gb Macbook Air? I'm a bit braindead atm, but would like to know in the future when the Skylake Macbook Airs come out.

        • +1

@simplycurious: Just that when JB has a 10% off sale, they don't include BTO in their 10% off prices.
Since they only carry MBAs with 4GB of RAM in store, you can't get 10% off through them.

If you have an Apple Store nearby, they should carry the 8GB version as a stocked item and therefore won't treat it as a BTO item… And if you ask them to match JB who is having a 10% off sale they usually will… So you can walk out with your 8GB MBA that day, getting 10% off.

        • @itsMartin: bigger, wish I knew that when I bought an 11 and 13 inch MBA from JB two days ago. So just got std ones. Fortunately price matched the good guys. This deal is one dollar less than good guys.

        • @itsMartin: Think I get you now… Thanks for the tip!

      • hey, how do i salary sacrifice? interested

      • Yes we will. Takes ~2 weeks to come in from Singapore

However 10% excludes built to order machines

  • +4

I bought my mac from JB Hi Fi for 10% off 12 months ago so not something that JB Hi Fi is doing because of Dick Smith's woes. They have been doing it for a long time. If anything, they'd do it less due to less competition from the debacle that is Dick Smith.

    • +1

Yeah…hardly a new thing. Still good if you're in the market.

      • Absolutely.

  • Thanks for posting. Unfortunately I am sitting on $250 in JB vouchers waiting for a good price on a Apple iPad Air 2 wifi 64 GB (forget the cellular …).

$828 JB Hifi price is dearer than its competitors; $798 DS, $778 Harvey Norman and Good Guys …

Any suggestions on how to approach them for a better deal? Yes, I know its a lot for an iPad, but its predecessor died just a few days after Christmas; lots of Apple store music and apps … apparently I can download again without paying again (hopefully) but cannot do so on an android.

    • +1

      $687 at Officeworks

      • Even better hey! Perhaps I should hang on to the vouchers (2 year expiry date) for a (Windows) notebook/laptop next year etc., and buy the iPad at Officeworks instead.

        • +1

          That's what i would be doing/did.

        • +1

Try your luck and ask if they can beat Office Works by $10 or $20 or so. Worse case ask if they'll price match.

Don't mention the gift card at the time, but use it when you get to the register and they've already agreed on the price. I've had some luck with getting to match competition for gaming consoles, so I can't see why they shouldn't at least match a competitor for anything else, as long as you get the right sales rep.

        • @Smigit: JB HiFi told us they don't price-match, so we checked out Good Guys (next door) who then beat the price by $1; so we bought the IPad Air2 at Good Guys for $686. Only had the gold stock (usually comes in a silver and black also I think), but that was okay, and not that you would notice once secured in a folder too. He reduced the price on the tempered glass guard too to $39, so we are happy. Better than buying a 2 pack of the screen covers for $25.

What took the longest time imaginable was choosing the cover … purchased at OfficeWorks.

Strangely enough our local OfficeWorks (Cranbourne) told us they don't stock the iPad … even though they stocked the most folders of the 3 stores.

JB seems to have 15% off on most (but not all) HP laptops, but we are not in a hurry to replace ours yet, so we'll hang on to the JB Hifi vouchers for a better deal at a later date (2 years expiry dates on these).

        • +1

@JediJan: enjoy the new toy :)

        • @Smigit: Thank you :o). It is son's but my baby (I have the fun of doing all the downloads) for a few weeks while he concentrates on finishing a course. By that time I will be over it for sure!

  • +1

Damn, really tempted as I'm leaving Australia in 2 weeks so can also claim the GST. Still worth waiting for the next release though (supposed to be before March), as it will be a major performance bump.

    • -2

It really won't be a major performance increase. We're talking Skylake -U here. lol
They're just shitty mobile processors. Don't believe the APple hype. Apple don't make the CPUs, Intel do. Anyone who thinks that Apple will use their own CPUs in their ultrabooks need to get a reality check.

I would still wait for the new release, because 10-15% performance increase is better than nothing. The I/O will also get a bit of a revamp.

      • +2

Who said anything about Apple using their own CPUs?

Apart from the performance bump, it's also possible the MBPs will get a redesign - hopefully removing the bezel and reducing the weight

Broadwell -> Skylake should be significant. It will also mean greater battery life

        • +1

Depending what line you are looking at, getting USB-Type C on the system might be a nice gain. Not sure if the performance jump will be massive, but if you can afford to wait it might be worth it given the previous ones came out a little while ago. I wouldn't expect a redesign in March though…the rumour mills been pretty quiet in that regard and you'd usually have expected to hear something. Same design with possibly some USB Type C thrown into some models and internal spec bumps seem most likely to me in March.

        • Christ you know nothing about CPUs, so stop making baseless assumptions that a redesign of a chipset yields a 'significant' performance increase. A 10% increase in bus speeds is not significant, it's modest, as demonstrated by every single CPU benchmark out there.
If you are following the latest rumours and discussions, some have said Apple may start to introduce their own mobile CPUs into their macbooks.

Anyone who liked your comment has no idea what they're talking about.

    Rip off

    • +1

don't insult the appletard sheep please.

      • That wasn't my intention at all ;)

  • Apple are more expensive than Sony but inferior in style, design, features and specs.

    • +2

Sony dropped their laptop business. They no longer sell laptops, or computers for that matter. I guess school holidays brings out all the Apple haters.

  • +1

I've had an early 2015 13" rMBP since last August.

It is a fantastic machine, better than any laptop I've ever owned. The build quality is rock solid, it's relatively light for its size and I can easily get 10 hours of battery life out of it (as long as you don't use Chrome) for general use. The screen is pin sharp and crystal clear, with punchy colours (2560x1600, 227 ppi). It's speedy and I'm yet to see a 'spinning beachball'.

The drives in the '15 models are twice as fast as the '14 ones (PCIe 2.0 4-lane vs 2-lane) and the RAM was beefed up to 1866Mhz vs 1600Mhz. They also have the 'Force Touch' trackpad, which is actually pretty amazing to use. It doesn't actually physically click, but the software emulation is that good that you swear that it does.

OSX is so simple to use, and has yet to fail me. It just works. I procrastinated over buying a MPB at the time due to the price, but these really are fantastic machines made to last the distance.

  • No one is more vehemently against the competition, more loyal and more fanatic than a windows fan. Apple fans don't seem to care what everyone else uses. Windows fans are on a crusade against apple everywhere the company is mentioned. It's utterly bizarre that they toss insults around like isheep and apple fanboy and make out like apple consumers are the fanatics. I buy android over iphone because its better value (for what I want). I buy macbooks because there is no competiton. I bought an xps13 because It looked like it might be but its not. Not even close. It wasn't even cheap.

Apple pray on the computer illiterate.

In what way is the macbook better than the best ultrabook on the market (XPS13). The XPS13 is 2015 ultrabook of the year.

      • How, prey tell, do they do that?

        • You wouldn't understand even if I was to explain their dirty underhanded tactics. You don't become the world's largest company by obeying the rules.
I'm guessing you're too busy enjoying your iphone/macbook

        • @cDNA:

          You wouldn't understand

Basically means you're pulling this out of your ass.
But heck yeah I'm siting here enjoying my Macbook Pro. It's an awesome machine. Absolutely worth the money.

          @theguyrules:

When was the last time you studied corporate governance or worked in senior management? Never I assume.

        • @cDNA: Oh crap you're right, never. Well I guess you're the expert then ;)

        • @theguyrules:

I love you, because you sound like a hipster AKA the most peaceful people on this earth

      • +1

The OS and software. You could stop there.

The video card in the MBP is about 3 times faster than the XPS13. The SSD is about 5 times faster (write speed). The battery lasts 5 hours longer.

        • -3

Iris pro is not 3 times faster than a Skylake 520 you plain liar. Intel make those graphics cards, not Apple. The Dell XPS15 is available for people who want a dedicated GPU and there's no competition between integrated GPUs and separate dGPUs. I mean, if you're going to post nonsense at least act like you know what you're talking about.
The SSD is not 5 times faster. Both use PCI-E, so it's impossible for two PCI-E SSDs to differ by 5 times when their controller is similar. Both use single-level cell caches that act as buffers, increasing drive performance by dedicating fast NAND to read/write cycles. The Dell battery life is shorter, because it has a QHD+ 3200x1800 display, but comes with a Dell companion portable power bank for $100-$180 (Depending on capacity) extra. Modest considering how much Apple peripherals cost. This is the problem with the average consumer. They don't like getting educated. Blindly jump on the hype trian.

OSX software is limited compared to the open source world of Windows and Linux.

Do you even know what a GPU is?
3 times faster aye. That's nice, whatever that means.

IF you're a basic user such as a photo editor (even then Windows is better because of Nvidia's technologies) or musician then sure OSx is okay. Enterprise grade software and professionals don't waste their time with OSX. It's all built around windows and linux

        • @cDNA: The XPS13 has an Intel HD Graphics 5500 Mobile chipset, which is what I was comparing in my post (not a 15" with a dedicated GPU – the fact it exists is irrelevant).
          http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=2577&gid2=2575&…
          3dmark scores at http://www.notebookcheck.net/Face-Off-Dell-XPS-13-vs-Apple-M….

Yes, the SSD is 5 times faster.
          Dell SSD https://qph.is.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-80c1652d36dc190959c621…
          Apple SSD https://qph.is.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-ab1fb4cb27e43be8a82cb0…

Yes, you can carry around a portable power bank. You could also get one for the MacBook Pro, which would also increase the battery life. Again, that's irrelevant.

"Open source world of Windows" hahaha. Most Linux applications are available on OSX. Can you guess why?

"Enterprise grade software and professionals don't waste their time with OSX"
Enterprises aren't really the best place to look for modern choices in technology. If you look at any modern tech company, they're all running OSX or Linux.

        • -3

          @Jayphen:

Great, more misinformation. You're comparing last generations XPS13 that has been discontinued with the latest macbook pro. Apple are slow to release their products. The current Dell XPS13 came out a few months after the 2015 Macbook Pro.

XPS13 has an Intel HD 520.
          http://www.dell.com/au/p/xps-13-9350-laptop/pd

The XPS13 has an NVMe PCI-E SSD. Do you know how fast these things are? I'll give you time to look up the price of an NVMe SSD.

Most linux applications are not available on OSX you goober. Why would we need Linux then?

Considering I work for one of the largest and most advanced technology companies in the world, I'd know if we were running OSX and there isn't a single OSx unit on site.
"Enterprises aren't really the best place to look for modern choices in technology".
You Obviously don't work in a corporate environment. That's the first place you look for the latest and greatest in modern technology. Your head is filled with myths, the Apple ethos and propaganda.

        • +1

@cDNA: Oh right, so you're comparing a Dell laptop released in November to the MacBook Pro released in March. I had assumed it would make more sense to compare the models released around the same time.

Have you ever used OSX? Yes, most Linux applications are available on OSX. I know because as an open-source developer I use them. OSX is a BSD descendent and runs Bash by default, so of course most Linux applications will be compatible. It just has a different/no package manager (although Homebrew fills that gap).

Myths and propaganda huh? Your corporate environment has filled you with grumpiness and sanctimony.
