Otel.com - $35 USD (~ $50AUD) off Hotels over $500 AUD

30
DCOUSD35

If you're trying to book a stubborn hotel that doesn't want to accept any coupons ('Voucher not valid for this hotel'), you might want to give this one a try.

DCOAUD35 gives you $35 AUD off any booking over $500. However, you can use the equivalent U.S. code and get $35 USD off (~$50 AUD) with DCOUSD35.

Warning!!
Otel.com are slimy and charge fees to book with a credit card. They are also sneaky and will charge you in AUD, but process the payment in Turkey - so your credit/debit card could still be slugged with a foreign transaction fee. 28 Degrees, Bankwest Platinum, and Citibank Plus are the only cards I'd trust with this site.

The only reason I'm posting this is because, even with credit card fees, they ended up significantly cheaper for two Chinese hotels I booked recently. As usual, do your homework on Kayak, Trivago, HotelsCombined, SkyScanner - to make sure it's the best deal for your accommodation.

Don't forget your 4.80% cashback with CashRewards, but it's very likely they won't honour it with the coupon.

Honerable Mentions
Here's two other coupons which seemed to work even with stubborn hotels:

Hotels.com - AUWORLD - $40.00 off (min 2 nights, min $360 spend)
Webjet - WEBJETCHAT - 5% off

  • 'Otel… Reminds me of 'Allo 'Allo…

  • I made a booking with them recently… supposed to "pay at hotel", but the hotel's already charged me for the room. Not sure what's happening there.

  • Maybe take the deal off the site if the seller isn't trustable

    • There's nothing inherently wrong with them, have used them several times before without issue. My annoyance with them is their payment system.

Credit card fees when many other hotel sites are fee free - and overseas processing charges that sting you if you decide to use your debit card to avoid cc fee.

  • " They are also sneaky and will charge you in AUD, but process the payment in Turkey - so your credit/debit card could still be slugged with a foreign transaction fee"

They don't claim to be in Australia, and aren't operating a .au site, so I wouldn't expect them to process the charge in Australia.

They convert so you know what you will be charged, instead of some sites which approximate and then you find it's actually in another currency.

I view the above as positive, rather than negative. Being aware is worthwhile, but I don't see it as a black mark against the website that they operate in another country.

    • You're right, they're not as bad as the sites which quote in AUD but actually charge USD/GBP.

However, they do invoice in Australian dollars, so it's totally plausible for the buyer to assume that the purchase is happening domestically. Much like hotels.com, Expedia, Booking.com - which are international companies but process their payments in Australia.

At the very least, on the payments page they should mention that your AUD payment goes through Turkey and your bank will charge you foreign fees. This info is buried in the FAQ somewhere. I've made it clear for others on this post so they don't get stung (like I did last year - still bitter lol).
