      completes my Kogan outfit….

      Don't you mean bogan 😉

Just being the devil's advocate here so dont flame me to bits but I wonder if the ones with the Australian flag on them are now considered racist by the thought police so we get every other variation on the colours without actually having the flag.

    • +2

The thongs are very politically correct, with no actual flag in sight! Just, the same colours.
At least, the towel & picnic rug have decent flags.

      • Is this bizarro land from the Kogan flag post?

    • In a way, you're acting as the "thought police" yourself.

Why should these flags have to have the Aust. flag rather than some other stylized design ? There's shops selling the Aust. flag ones if that's what you want. Just go there if it's a big deal to you.

      • Ease up mate, just posing a question. Buy whatever thongs you like makes no difference to me. I thought it is interesting given the furore last year about the singlets or t-shirts that were pulled from sale after a public backlash. Interesting that maybe Aldi is now too scared to sell something and as a result has made a watered down compromise product in fear of any backlash. I thought that was worth a comment.

I just think you're over reading it.
There's no Aldi conspiracy as you suggest ;)

Australia Day thongs <made in China>

    • +2

so long as the beer is Australian brewed and still locally owned, my thongs can be made wherever

  • +6

If it was made in Australia it would be $20.

    • More likely the Australian Made ones would be sold for $2.00. Then Aldi would sell the Made in China ones for $1.80 because they can. Then nobody would buy the Aussie Made ones - thus the reason they're not made here anymore to begin with. We all want to save 20 cents and no company would take that risk.

      • +1

People already pay $40 in trendy surf shops for identical thongs made in China with the brand 'Havianas' written on them because they are 'cool'. Folks on here get all excited when COTD sells these Havianans for $20 on special!

        • My Aldi Havianas Fongs were made in Brazil TYVM! :)

I guess Australians aren't patriotic enough and too cheap to buy Australian-made patriotic products eh.

or else we are all too scared of offending somebody and being labelled a Bogan Racist.

        • +2

While you may or may not be right, that doesn't really have anything to do with my comment.

        • just let it out buddy, is there something you want to say?

        • @cool kid: I woudn't dare ;)

        • @cool kid: Oh…and I'm not your Buddy Guy!

  • +8

Quick buy them before somebody is offended and they get pulled off the shelves

They should be paying us for wearing these and advertising Australia.

If you don't like it here…

      • +1

        Move to New Zealand?

        • +1

          But they're all coming here.

        • @2ndeffort: The Aussie dollar has dropped, they have all left, that's right, all of them.

  • Thanks, OP, but I just stocked up on $2.00 thongs from Rivers with the deal on here a month ago. If only I'd known, I could have saved myself a cent per pair of thongs! (That's half a cent per thong!!!) :-)

  • coles malvern had similar ones for $1.50 yesterday on clearance

  • +3

Hope they are better than those from last year.

While not made from Aeroplane Jelly, they were certainly inferior to those from earlier years.

A $2 buy from Big-W proving [far] more durable, I splurged on getting a spare pair :-)

    • +2

Thongs made from jelly would be cloud-like comfy, if only for a second.

      • what about making them from marshmellows then?

  • +2

Lots of stock on opening day. Good for putting your foot in it. Maybe they'll last 61 days. :)
