That would be you speed to your router, not the internet.

    • Lets just say the capped/shaped speeds alone trump the optus plans. I was on optus cable for the last 7+ years until last month. The only difference i see is uptime. Optus cable is up constantly 24 hours a day, TPG will d/c 3-4 times a day for about 10-30 seconds.

      Optus 64k cap is unusable.

  • TPG have already changed my plan and reset my quota.

    Damn! that was fast! :)

  • +1

great, ive been noticing speeds getting worse and worse since they started doing all of this, id hate to see how long its going to take to download the latest 4.5gb linux iso's now.

    • +1

agreed, the quality has certainly started to detereorate

      • Yeah they have oversold their network & this is just going to make it worse.

    • Perfect over here 24/7.

    • Perfect here in Canberra too.

  • does it reset ur contract to a new 12 months or watever or just continues

    • Contract does not reset for upgrade mentioned.

  • thanks TPG ! perfect service, glad i made the switch from internode… couldnt be happier !

  • Hiya guys! I just got TPG Connected 2 weeks ago on the 160gb Plan, If I upgrade now, will be billing date start again!?! which means I have to pay ANOTHER $69.95 to start it again? or will it continue with my existing 160gb billing cycle but with reset usage? please help!!

    LaMMi

    • It will reset your billing period, but you'll be credited the remainder.

awesome! finally changed my old 150gb plan with slow shaping speeds!

  • +1

Huge plus for me. Previously i was on the TPG 150gig no peak/off peak plan shaped to 1MB paying $130 a month. Under the new plans, i save $40 a month plus my shaped speed is 4MB!

me like, they're almost giving away too much !

It seems like that now. But eventually Unlimited Broadband without any conditions has to hit Australia. Most Asian countries namely Singapore, South Korea and Japan already have unlimited broadband with speeds since like early 2002 (up to 100mbps since 2007) all day long with no other conditions. In fact, none of those countries have broadband plans with data limits even on the lowest end plans. The only difference is the speed.

I'm hoping this will come to Australia or at least capital cities soon. 130GB-200GB is a lot and I probably won't use it all, but just the freedom of not having to check your usage or scheduling stuff for off-peak times is awesome.

      • You've read TPGs mind! :P

Unlimited plans in the works it seems, confirmed on the whirlpool forums by a TPG Rep.

        • +1

They're gonna limit it in some way. Like shared bandwidth or something. I'm talking about unlimited dedicated bandwidth without any tricky conditions attached to it. Australia's FTTH plans are going to be rolled out in the coming few years. We'll be experiencing way faster speeds but without the quotas to back up the speed, it's just a faster means of expiring your quotas.

It's high-time that quota limitations be removed from ISPs. People often say unlimited quotas is for downloading illegal content or piracy as they call it, and they're dead wrong. Unlimited quotas means freedom. Freedom that a lot of people brand as piracy nowadays.

But the freedom I'm talking about is having the ability to watch HD content on YouTube or watch the newly added content to YouTube HD like the Live Streaming of IPL or ABC's iView or renting movies from Zune Marketplace in Xbox where HD videos are well over 10GB in size or even downloading Linux Distributions for education and testing purposes.

There are hundreds of legal uses for unlimited broadband, but it's sad that people are fixating on the piracy part alone as the deciding factor in the limiting of download quotas.

I want the freedom of not having to check my quota to see where I stand after a day of heavy usage. I want the freedom of being able to choose HD content over SD content without worrying about quotas and I want my network to be able to support HD content streaming without long delays.

This is commonplace in most Asian countries and I hope Australia will soon follow suit. Its embarrassing to tell my friends in Asian countries that a more developed country than theirs is so backwards when it comes to the digital age.

          • @ragflan: I regret that I have but one +1 vote to give.

  • Well done TPG! I changed over to the; Super Fast Standard /130GB $49.99 130GB2 (70GB+60GB), which has comparative download allowance as my old $69.99 (150GB) plan. A saving of $20 monthly is too good to pass up, not to mention faster shaped speeds.

y not positive then :S lol

congrats to poster on such a positve post and thanks to OzBargain once again informing me of a great deal

just changed 3 accounts over to the 130GB plan…the renters will love the 1Mbps "limit rate"

lol, isn't that faster then some ADSL plans?

Man i emailed TPG last month asking if they were going to upgrade again…no reply…heres the answer lol

Fingers crossed for 5Mbps shaping in another months time :)

    TPG = Too Pretty Good…(lame i know…u guys make better ones :S)

  • TPG is like shannons insurance. bloody good if you can get past the operator and get the product but their customer support is shithouse and they take their bloody time. i signed up with them at the end of the month and 3rd week into the next month it was finally connected. every complaint was heard by some indian fella on the other end not giving a rats ass

    • mate, they are philippine fella

      • Yeah TPG's customer service are all Filipinos. You can tell by the accent.

    • If it was naked dont blame TPG. Otherwise its a 3-5 business day connection. Naked takes up to 28 days as Telstra puts you at the bottom of the pile.

  • Wow this is great news/ but what happens if you change plans during the middle of the month. Do they start you on a new month or do they just increase the limits

    • +1

They start you on a new month but they refund you for the remainder of your previous month pro rata'ed on how many days remaining you had left until your next monthly roll.

  • wow so technically you could use up your limit in the first 2 weeks and then upgrade and you start a fresh at no extra cost. Im not planning on doing it as my download speed doesn't get very high but some people could if they get good speeds.

    • Yep, this would be ideal and i believe it is common practice amongst TPG users.

  • +1

last time they did this, they forced the other ISPs to up their game. COME ON IINET give me reasonable off peak times!

    • I'm with you on that one, mobius- iiNet could improve on their peak/off peak times and quotas/shaping. With their customer service, they would be a market leader then :)

    • Do some research you can find that info on TPG's terms and conditions. Need to be realistic a cheap ISP with a+ customer service I wouldn't expect anything less then what you described.

Personally I liked AANETS old model, the new one sucks!

macmine Stop spamming every TPG thread, You have put the exact same message up except changed a couple of points. I doubt you had the exact same experience calling up TPG about 3 separate deals / contracts / plans. I take it you had a bad experience with one of the deals and have decided to copy and paste into every TPG thread there is making it seem like you called up TPG about THAT particular deal. Hence i am going to copy and paste this response into each thread you have put yours into.

Look I am not backing TPG or backing you. I havent had any support person hang up on me YET…but i dont doubt its possible or it might happen and TPG are not renown for their support so i guess it is possible to happen with them. I havent had a bad experience with their support yet except that it can be hard to get them to realise the fault is on their end and the waiting periods can be annoying. I think anyone going onto TPG should be prepared for their support not being the best. Saying that I have actually had much worse support from Optus support teams than i have had from TPG. The only time support people have abused me were from Optus.

The problem with you spamming every TPG thread is, it then makes me think did this even really happen to you or is there an ulterior motive behind it for you to spam all the threads pretending to be on a relevant topic.

      • lonewolf is right, macmine's post is spam!

  • With TPG ADSL2+ I can't get near 1Mbit without shaping

  • upgraded from 75Gb to 130Gb yesterday. Installation status looking normal from my TPG account this morning (very quick processing!), but we will have to see when I get home. good deal!

Edit: got mine after half working day, working perfectly!

upgraded to new plan and adsl2+ node is like 100m from my apartment :)

    • you luck *****. Im 2.5k from the exchange :(

      • I can throw a stone almost to mine.. but I think the lines go around the outside of the streets which makes it a lot further.. DOH LOL ;)

Still connecting at 21mbps-ish, and that's only after testing 4 or MORE modems heheh. I will find a good modem one day!!

  • I'm getting terrible speeds. I live at the Guildford exchange and where I used to get 15 MB/s I know get less than 3 MB/s. I advise people to stop signing up as not only will you get a slow speed but perhaps it will be too congested. If this continues for a few more days perhaps I'll have to seek a recredit.

As much as TPG offer a great quota, the speed has dropped dramatically and has become unstable. I'd rather a complete no service than a bits and pieces service.

EDIT: I see others are having similar issues, I post this in finding if they live near me, what exchange?

  • +1

I signed up over 1 year ago. Speed has remained the same throughout, only the value has increased :D

  • No TPG in Tassie… reason for this great TPG deal could be they are trying to shore up new customers on light of this: http://www.news.com.au/business/iinet-in-talks-with-netspace…

  • I am paying three mobile broadband $40 a month for 6GB. Should I switch? I can only get the basic ADSL though!

    • $40 a month for 6gb is poo m8, switch to any resold dsl. You can find cheaper resold dsl than tpg though.

  • just changed plan to this one. thanks to this posting.

  • Anything from TPG earns a solid meh from me! ;) I've dealt with them a few times in the past & found their business practices a bit sketchy IMHO!

    One word - Exetel!!! :D

They've just offered current out-of-contract customers like myself unlimited ADSL2+ (including line rental) for $75/month! Evidently, as someone mentioned earlier, there's gonna be some moving & shaking in the industry with a few other unlimited offers up for grabs soon with many other ISPs in the not too distant future! ;)

Not sure if I'm gonna take it up though, regardless of the great value. I don't think I'd really be able to milk it effectively! Plus, I'm really happy with my current (30p/60op)90gb+Phone bundle with excess use charged at 50c/gb (yes, you read that right, fifty measly cents per gb) for $65/month! Effectively the ADSL2+ portion is $35/month! Calls from the landline; local, mobile, national & overseas; are cheap as chips too! Can't complain about that! :)

  • "Line of sight distance: 2699m. Possible cable distance: 3885m."

Anyone have any idea of what speed I will be able to get?

    • +1

Approx 6mbps. My line of sight is 2550 and cable distance is 3600 and I get 7mbps.

      • there is not a guarantee mate. if you live in the unit, the cable will be longer.

    • very slow!

  • +1

I've changed plans 3 times in the last 6 months because it went to 50/50 and then 60/60 and now 70/60!
    Guess I can't complain…!

  • +1

TPG is the best value ISP in Australia by a mile. For $70 u get 200gb and the shaping speed is 2mbps which hardly feels like shaping at all. Much better value than the $50 plan. Still nowhere near as good as other countires have it with true unlimited for $30 a month but at least it's decent.

  • this is great, shame iinet still has excuses on their shaping account speeds.

Not long before I move and check these guys out more closely. Thanks for this.

  • Is anyone using TPG via their Modbury (SA) exchange (or know someone who is)?

If so, please let us know what IP-TV channels you get, thanks.

  • I was wondering…I'm on the 49.99 120gig adsl 2+, does it cost me anything 2 change it to the 130gig adsl 2+?

i find i always get capped cause of on peak ><

    • i did the same thing, when it is the same price, it does not cost you anything to change plan.

  • I moved to a new home, I have phone line there but no dial tone. Do I need to connect the phone line first to join TPG (pay connection fee to Telstra?)
p.s. Can I connect to Optus (cheaper connection fee) or do you know the cheapest way to get TPG? Thank you!
