Free Ice Cream Scrolls @ Scroll Ice Cream Adelaide 9/1 [12pm-3pm]

500

Hello Ozbargainers!

Thank you all for the awesome support in Melbourne, we are now going to scrolling into Adelaide this Saturday 9th of Jan!

To celebrate, we will be giving away free ice cream from 12pm - 3pm, followed by half price ice cream for the rest of the day at our Adelaide location. There is a limit of one per customer so there is no point adding 100 free ice creams to your cart because you think it is a price error. Please don't ruin this for everyone else.

All you have to do is to show us that you have liked us on FB, if you don't have FB or any other social media's, we won't hold you back from getting your hands on those ice cream scrolls, but please tell a friend about scroll if you like our ice cream. :)

We really value the input our fellow ozbargainers have given us in making this ice cream dream a creamy reality so we would like to offer you a sneak peak of what else we have in the pipeline:

  1. Serious discussions with delivery hero about only being available every time they have a $15 discount code that doesn't require a minimum.
  2. Training our staff to prevent them from taking/hiding all the best ice cream scrolls during our Christmas sales.
  3. An agreement with cashrewards so that we can meet TA in person and thank him for all the awesome things we have in our shop that we got for a really good price but still haven't had a chance to use. (that 19% off eBay was dangerous!)

Also we are extremely saddened by what has happened with Dicksmith and feel the pain that all our fellow ozbargainers are going through. To show our solidarity and commitment to the Ozbargain Gods (Scotty) we will be giving away a free ice cream to all those who have been affected by this ordeal. Just come in and show us your receipt of purchase of an item that hasn't been delivered or gift cards that aren't being honoured. We can't actually verify your gift cards but we trust that you will be honest, out of respect to the ozbargain gods. This will be available at both our stores.

In the meantime, flavour suggestions please! We just got a food chemist on board to help with the flavours, so lets get creative! We have a chocolate beetroot that has a cool purple tinge and dark chocolate with chilli that tastes awesome but will make your eyes water.

3 scoops, it will be 7-8 dollars.

    3 scoops for $8

    Lol ….

    • +6

      My favourite commenter on OzB!

We use the best possible ingredients, our milk is from St David's Dairy and our Matcha is from Matcha Maiden, we also utilise all fresh fruit and the ice cream is hand churned in front of you.

We actually walked around adelaide and gelatissimo and all the other stores charge between 7-8.9 per 2 scoops. They also don't have toppings, which we give for free!

However, whilst I am an ozbargainer we aren't trying to compete on price but rather quality.

      • Welcome to Adelaide.

yes, you are correct. Most of the famous icecream shops charge between $4-5 for single scoop and $7-9 for double scoops.

what about the quantity? does 1 scoop is equal to approx 1.5 scroll?

on the other side, your location in Adelaide is not top class.

if you choose between currie street & North Terrace, you may have bonus late night Footy & Cricket crowd also

          Thank you for the feedback!

We are working on another location at the moment. Thats a good idea, we were actually looking more at the central market area.

        • @Justing197:

yep, Central Market is good location.

please advertise with flyers on Saturday afternoon in Rundle Mall / Saturday Evening in Rundle Street.

  • -3

Why u so far away from cbd :(

      • +7

We are in the CBD though…. :P

    • +8

      Hey!

We are actually in the CBD, just off rundle street.

        • +8

          No it's not.

    • +3

I google the street and its within the cbd. A stones throw from the mall.

        • +4

yes I know. People think though that the CBD is only the Mall, it goes beyond that.

        • -3

          @boogaloo:

          it goes beyond that.

          Yes, 3 metres technically.

        • +2

          @jv:

Oh, so your're saying its basically the mall. I dont believe that. Can you show proof of this.

        • -4

          @boogaloo:

Can you show proof of this.

          I measured it personally

        • +3

          @jv:

          Then you measured it wrong.

        • +3

@boogaloo: Hey, it's not the size, it's how you use it!

        • You sound quite certain. Being certain doesn't make you right though. The Adelaide CBD is, like CBDs in Australian capital cities, defined in law.

Edit: I need to find the prior documents.

        • @twocsies: Was it a joke? I am guessing no because it lacks any element of humour.

"the Central Business District (CBD) Tourist Precinct" means the portion of the municipality of the City of Adelaide that lies within the Hundred of Adelaide;" http://www.safework.sa.gov.au/show_page.jsp?id=111676#.Vo2kc… with map shown http://www.safework.sa.gov.au/uploaded_files/shoptradingmapc…

This central part of Adelaide was laid out in "Col. Light's comprehensive visionas a townplanner". "The Plan of Adelaide as printed in 1840 shows the grid plan of North Adelaide and South Adelaide (the CBD)" http://adelaidia.sa.gov.au/panoramas/lights-plan-of-adelaide…

The municipality of the City of Adelaide lies entirely within the Hundred of Adelaide. The legal definition of the CBD of Adelaide comprises the square mile centre of Adelaide. Technically it includes the parklands. In other words, the City of Adelaide is the CBD—"the Central Business District (CBD) of Adelaide and North Adelaide".
          http://capcity.adelaide.sa.gov.au/cities/city-of-adelaide-ma…

Rundle Mall is a shopping precinct in the CBD.

    • Hey jv, there were plans to double the size of the 'CBD'… http://5000plus.net.au/ideas/363

  • +3

For those in Adelaide who don't know where this is, it's basically just behind the Austral Hotel… just off Rundle Street.

OP - are you in the location previously held by Mr V Music, or the MP's office? One was right next to the other, but just curious to see who's no longer there, lol.

    • +1

Thank you for the clarification! The music store I believe, or a vintage clothing store.

      • +2

Ahh no worries, so you'd be the closest directly to the right of the main entrance to the Bent Street Apartments. Tricky spot to be in business (not a lot of foot traffic apart from residents) If you have any items that are vegetarian/vegan, I'd recommend also having signage to point this out… you may get clients from the two Vego/Vegan food places on Bent Street.

In any case, I hope you do well.

        • +2

Great Idea! None of our ice cream uses egg in it at the moment and we have a vegan flavour that utilises coconut cream as its base.

We liked the space because it was big enough for us to do a lot of artwork and also fit in a chill space for people to play boardgames.

  • -1

That's too far :P past pultney doesnt count as CBD :)

    • +5

Lol, who are you, a student who lives down the West End? :P

      • -5

Nup, i work in the CBD :P, that's like saying MSY is in the CBD! - the CBD isnt generally considered the whole square of Adelaide bordered by north/south/east/west tce, its more the area bordered by light square/hindmarsh square and wakefield st and north tce. So while this icecreamery is within the city, it wouldn't commonly be considered as being within the CBD.

        • +3

It would seriously be like a 2 or 3 minute walk from Hindmarsh Square though

        • Interesting view. I've always considered North Tce to Gouger the CBD. And technically, the location is in the same block of Hindmarsh (right behind Crowne Plaza). :P

        • Yep.. like sqeeksqeek says - it's not a great spot for Adelaide, there wont be a lot of people generally walking past as they do within the 'cbd' area. People would rather need to be specifically heading there - which if its a great product, they very well may do!

        • It's not a 100% straight line thing :) but that side of pultney and not on rundle… well that's a push for 'cbd'. Perhaps there is an official CBD area defined (now imma have to go look!)

        • +9

          generally considered?

          or just by you?

Actually the CBD is officially considered to be the whole square of Adelaide bordered by north/south/east/west tce.

        • +2

          @NotCheap:
I beg to differ. There's a huge lunch/foodie crowd that gathers on Rundle Street, from the Ebenezer Pl so York St being not too far away, is excellent for dessert after munchies, on the way back to the Mall.

        • Link me! - I couldn't find any official definition of the CBD boundary. Closest i could find was: http://profile.id.com.au/adelaide/about along with some info on wikipedia (which as we all know is the ultimate source of truth for all things) both of which favour the north/north eastern area. Most people, that live/work in adelaide, do not consider the whole city-square to be the CBD, rather a portion of that city-square.

Back on topic, free ice cream is good, and offering free ice cream to casualties of the dick-smith situation is also a great thing :)

        • +1

          @NotCheap:
          Yeah every Adelaidean knows:
          Rundle Mall is for Shopping
          Rundle Street is for Eating
          Hindley Street is for Stripping

Anyways, here's a link to Ebenezer/Varden food which is nearby to you, but on east end though (or oostend as they say at the belgian beer cafe)
          http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/lifestyle/sa-lifestyle/ebeneze…

        • @NotCheap: Not sure you have asked 'most people', it seems the Adelaide City Council thinks it refers to their entire area, minus North Adelaide:

          http://www.adelaidecitycouncil.com/search?q=cbd

        • @zzymurgy:

Seeing as you don't want to let it go :), 'most people' i'll qualify as most of the people ive spent the last 20+ years working with, in the CBD, where this topic has come up in conversation… there's always some variation aka square mile, area around GPO or within x of GPO etc, and as areas are re-developed etc.

If you'd care to link your specific official source showing the cbd boundary, that'd be super and we can quickly clear this up and we can both go back to waiting for free-ice cream, which may be in or out of the cbd but like everything in the city, tops of what a 20min walk away from the gpo.

  • 3 scrolls or 3 scoops for $8? how many mls in a scroll?

    • -2

They look tiny in the link

      • +4

We use 150ml as the base, than the actual ice cream may differ depending on what you want inside the ice cream. :)

        http://www.kgbanswers.co.uk/how-many-ml-in-an-ice-cream-scoo…

The thing is, we were recently at flinders market and there we were charging $10 and their was a 30min wait. We aren't trying to rip anyone off and we want as much feedback as we can get, most importantly we want everyone to have a good time. JV, if you look at the videos you will see that the whole process is quite labor intensive. I understand your concern for the pricing, in which case just make sure you come on day 1 and try one for free, than please give me feedback so I can improve the business. :)

        • +6

Maybe send jv a lifetime 50% off card to stop him whinging?

jv: who cares about the normal price, it's FREE in this deal

        • +2

Hey just wanted to say you have a great attitude. I'm down in melbs and will check out your store when I have the chance.

I actually came back from Thailand recently and pretty much had one of these every day because it tasted great (and was super cheap over there).

        • @rarin:

Thank you for the kind words! We are still learning and incorporating customer feedback will be a key part of our business.

Shoot me a message on the Scroll FB page before you come and I'll organise a discount for you.

        • wasn't that because you had a 20%+ voucher on at the time?

  • Hey! I recall you guys were going to be at Eastwood NSW sometime, do you have a set of dates yet by any chance?

  • +1

if you don't have FB… we won't hold you back

Thank you Justin, those of use who gave up FB as a New Year's resolution would have found it hard otherwise!

    • Haha thats awesome! It was actually more so we wouldn't discourage the goldies from coming, but i am glad it fits in with your New Year Res. Hopefully see you in adelaide! :)

  • +1

The location is fine. Businesses not on the main streets in the city have been doing fine for years. It just takes a bit of exposure and people will happily move one street over from Rundle St.

  • hmmmm now when is the sydney store coming? :)

  • +1

I tried the ones in Melbourne.

Since these are free, go ahead and try them, but I personally do not think they worth paying for at all - it's a gimmick. They don't even taste good, unoriginal, and very pricey for what you get.

    But hey, that's just me.

    • Hi Drose

Thank you for coming to our Melbourne store. Do you have any specific feedback you could message me? We are actually working on a new mix option due to be released in around 2 weeks. If you are in the area we would love to get you and a friend in for a complimentary ice cream and get your feedback on the new mix! If you still do not think it is worth it we will give you a refund on the original ice cream.

      Cheers

      Justin

  • +1

Hey? Who can say no to free

  • +1

Brilliant. One of my favourite Thai places is at the other end of York Street, this'll be good for dessert afterwards.

Re: location, being off Rundle St hasn't seemed to do Nano/Burger Theory/Hey Jupiter/etc any harm down that way.

Best of luck with the opening.

  • i was gona do this as a start up in sydney..

  • -2

Also we are extremely saddened by what has happened with Dicksmith

You were doing well up until that but then I noticed it was meaningless drivel.

    Extremely saddened my a**e lel

    • Hi Diji

Thank you for the comment, I am glad you enjoyed it up to that point. To be honest I just thought it would be nice given I couldn't redeem my gift card during the Borders fiasco, definitely not wanting to offend you or anything.

  • Just wanted to say I had some on Boxing Day at Fountain Gate and it was delicious! It sucks you were in such a crappy location, you would have more success near the cinemas, maybe in Boost Juice's old spot (they moved into an actual shop next to the old spot).

  • Hi Justin
I wanted to take my kids to your new shop in Adelaide for the opening, but my son vomited the night before so ice cream was off the menu last Saturday. Anyway I'll likely be in town tonight and went to look up your opening hours but your shop does not come up in google maps, not sure how you fix / change this. The Adelaide location is not up on your website location either.
