Please recommend a light weight and compact powerbank

Hello,

I have an upcoming trip to Japan and was looking at buying a powerbank to carry around during the day to ensure my phone and portable wifi don't run out of battery.

Can anyone please recommend a compact and light weight powerbank that would be suitable for carrying in a handbag? Something reliable and with enough power to keep my devices going each day (I don't have any idea how much power I would need though). A lot of the powerbanks I have looked at online appear to be quite large but hopefully someone knows of one that is lighter without compromising on power/quality.

Thanks for your time! :)

    • Thanks for your quick reply, LoopyLou! :)

I had a look at your recommendation - the description tells you what the powerbank is: "Compatible with iPhone, HTC, Samsung, smartphone and Tablet PC" - but I assume that it will actually power other USB devices as well? I was hoping it could charge my iPhone and a pocket wifi device. Do you have any idea?

      Thanks again for your suggestion!

I agree, this one is great and can fit in your pocket

If you plan to carry a bag with you when you are out during the day then I'd grab a large capacity one such as this one and just keep it in your bag.

Power banks will power any device regardless of brand (will work with your pocket wi-fi) so just make sure you have the correct cable to plug into the usb slot. In Japan it is common for power points to be available while you are eating at a franchise type of food place and also the bullet trains have power points on them so you can bring a charger to charge your phone directly if you want. A power bank is definitely worth it if you are going on a long day trip as you will have no chance to charge, I used mine a lot in Japan.

I also agree with @phew. It's better to buy 10,000mAh+ one as with the conversion rate, 5000mAh one is likely to charge iphone around 1.5 times rather than 2 times. I've found my Xiomi 10,000mAh power bank was more than enough to feed my nexus 5 and ZTE Fit 4G that I used as a pocket wifi during the day (5am-10pm some days) in Japan, both were used abundantly but the battery pack still had one notch left on the worst days.

seems a good deal. (could be a bit heavier than what you like.)

  • Thanks to everyone for the great advice. I have a bit to think about now! Perhaps in the long run a 10,000mAh will be more suitable, despite the extra weight.
