Is it really a good idea to post deals to OzBargain that aren't available to Aussies?

    • -4

      read carefully

    • -4

The deal is available to aussies who would like to send gifts over to family and friends residing in those countries. A bargain or a deal is where you save money and this is one of them.

Your negative vote would have been understandable if australian ip addresses were blocked from the site.

      Please think carefully before voting

So am I going to visit now and find every good deal from every single country because I might have relatives in that country and want to send them a gift. I agree with lbft.

Please think carefully before you comment.

      • +4

        I agree with ibft.

so do you consider specials on amazon that are for US only a bargain cause aussies can buy them as a gift for their mates in the US. the answer is NO.
If an offer is not avilable to residents of Australia it should not be posted on Ozbargain.

        so yeah am voting negative.

      • I'm sorry if I offended you. I voted negative because I didn't think that offers limited to delivery to overseas addresses were within the scope of OzBargain.

The fact that I would imagine a lot of people would be offended to receive a gift that contained advertisements, removable or not, was also a factor.

The pattern of the votes so far suggests most people disagree with me, most of whom have been here a hell of a lot longer than I have. Feel free to ignore me :)

        • Like me, I'm sure plenty of people agree with you lbft.

Its just that on here, when you neg even for a valid reason, people get all uppity and start harassing you. So most people just go with the flow, to the detriment of the whole site I reckon.

Even when you can easily take the hassle, it just isn't worth the effort to neg any more, the writing is on the wall.

          • @stumo: Totally agree about the neg voting etc

            • +2

              @Mikinoz: then why did u vote +ve

              • @ballsofsteel: i thought this was an interesting post, whilst the neg voting being irrelavant is a different topic

                • @Mikinoz: Stumo and Mikinoz - stick to the subject! - you both have had your say in the forums, so stop bringing it up every time in every thread. Get over it. The records broken…

The original "hammering" because you wouldn't be courteous enough to the community to give a reason. Since you have now being doing that, where's the problem?

Just because others here may criticise you? This is a forum you dont like a deal, you vote against it, just dont be surprised if others say they dont like it. And most times when you have a reason, other than an opinion, no one "hammers" you.

Many people here like some deals that you don't like, and they don't like that you try to impose your will on whats posted. that's all.

Continue to discuss this all you like BUT do it in the forum. NOT HERE.

@[Deactivated]: Sense a bit of touchiness on the subject , thanks for the diatribe on the hammering and classing me and stumo together.

So this isnt a personal attack because you are a mod ? actually sounds like you are having a masisve cry cause it didnt go your way .

I assumed this being a community and run by it, guess i m wrong as it starts to get bigger and nazi's like you start assuming control.

Like stumo, i am nearly over this place, let me ask you hows the retention of older members who arnt mods. Wonder if they go the same way and get annoyed with overzealous mods who have nothing better to do

No offense glad i got it off my chest , feel free to move it to the forums like you probably should do instead of having a go

                    • @Mikinoz: So its ok for you to have a snipe at anyone, take this thread off track - you recall your comment "Totally agree about the neg voting etc".

When someone calls that you call them a Nazi.

So if I can your comment as its off the track again, I'm a bigger Nazi - Well done guess its checkmate on me - you win!! Similar to the position Stumo says he is in, maybe Mods shouldn't bother we always get sniped at "so the writings on the wall"

                  • @[Deactivated]: As I said I agree with lbft's reason for the neg. And in addition I was sticking up for lbft since it seems they were having to apologise for negging an obviously crap bargain.

So I was just lending some moral support to lbft, and giving a reason, and my take on the situation.

Maybe if you feel there is an element of broken records, it is because there is something wrong with the site/system as it stands now? I'm happy to pick it up in the forum, but that is getting a bit like a broken record too.

      • Not an Ozbargain :(

    • lbft - dunno - guess the voting response will give us an indication. Rack While I personally dont agree with voting negative on this as determined by my own vote, lbft's point is legitimate, especially as this sort of breaking new ground.

  • Alright i agree with everyone. I'll ask the mods to remove it or just for fun sake let's see how the vote goes. Posters will then get the point. Sorry my mistake

  • I'm voting +ve for the following reasons:

    1. It's free - if it was a deal on w00t.com etc. which wouldn't deliver to Australia then I probably wouldn't.
    2. It's an interesting concept - if more people are aware of it then there's a chance it will be replicated down under.
    3. I would guess most Aussies have friends/family overseas who would be happy to receive this as a gift.
  • Interesting per month per customer , so you get one every 12 months ? for how long ?

although with ads in your photobook , not sure that would look good neither does this line "All offers from HotPrints Ltd are subject to change at any time without notification"

so if your expecting something and they decide it was too popular you may not even receive anything or a warning that you wont get anything

I am not against this deal think it may have potential just interesting to see how they look and the sentiment of those receiving them

    • as for the ads they are not actually printed on the photobook but arrive as a separate sheet in the photobook which can be removed.

      • Thanks, okay well +ve for me then even if you get one it seems okay

      • +1

I would like to see how obvious it is that pages have been removed.

  • I like the creative thinking behind this by rack, so gave it a +ve - and after all it is FREE.

  • If this counts as an oz bargain, might as well add every freebie on the world not available to us since it's a 'freebie' since the same 'reasoning' would apply. Leaving ozbargain flooded with crap I'll never be able to use.

    • I see your point but I think the difference with this is that it is not just a free sample or a free keyring (or other item of low value). The book is something which would probably cost $20 or more and so the saving made makes it stand out.

    • It IS available to us. We can get it - for others. That's different to a bargain that (for eg) is only available to US residents with a postal address in the US etc etc.

  • not good

  • +1

while it's a bargain, it's not an ozbargain viable for the majority of users here, so -ve from me

  • I'm voting -ve. While I can think of some people in the US and maybe UK on whom I'm not sure I want to inflict this, but the conditions of the deal exclude too many Australians who have no connections with the named countries. If Hotprints covered more destinations, then I would be more likely to be in favour.

  • negative for the above reasons
