Best Snow Resort Places in Melbourne?

Looking to go to the snow with the family, wondering where is the best spoteg: Mt Buller, Falls Creek etc. Also the best place to stay, close to main snow attractions and stuff?

Comments

  • Mt Buller is the closest, and a close good town to stay in is Mansfield, 40min from top of mountain.

  • stay in Falls Creek itself and you can walk out your door and into the snow.

  • pretty sure there won't be any snow up there for a while..

  • Vote for Falls Creek. Mt Buller is too full, Hotham is all black but not really the nice kind of black.

  • Mt Hotham is the best in my opinion. Then Falls Creek.

  • HOT HAM! Then Falls, then Buller, everything else below.
Hotham all black? Geez, overstate it a bit. Buller would probably be best for beginners, but that's part of the reason it's packed (hint: the run called "Bourke St" got it's name due to the pack of people). For snowboarders, Hotham is best, as Falls Creek still relies on a lot of T-bars and other tows that aren't the best for boarders, also a lot of flat sections between runs so hard on a board. Hotham is the best of all worlds.
    Terrain too steep? Meh!

  • I personally did not visited but yes would love to share experience about my friend who recently visited. Falls Creek is a place tucked in the Australian mountain Alps popular for snow destination accommodation. It is one of the best place to spend your holidays in and the best part is one can have lot of option for accomodation including Falls creek snow accommodation. He had an amazing experience with their services.

  • So what's the best way to get up the mountain at Hotham? A car is going to cost $48 per day just to park there! A bus is around $110 return (so more expensive with 3 or more people over 5 days).

Anyone in the area doing Uber / taxi trips up from Harrietville or similar on either side?

Thinking of doing a carpool with a 12 seater Hiace (going up 16/7 pm and back on 21\7 am) if anyone is interested?

    • There's a bus from Bright/Harrietville that's subsidised from PTV. ~$7 one way plus $17 resort entry I think.

I usually park my car in Bright for the week and take the bus up and down.

      • Cheers. Any link to bus details?

        • @downhillmtbr:
Thanks. Can you take a suitcase and a snowboard on the bus?

        • +1

          @tunzafun001:

Yeap, it's pretty much only used by staff who live up there, and some thrifty visitors. They have a trailed to take gear in. Last time I took a suitcase (sleeping bag, clothing & beer), boots, skis, poles and a helmet. The bus stops at all stops at hotham, just make sure you know which one is closest to your accommodation.
