  • I am getting a "try again later" message from them after entering email, must be a bit busy.

  • After multiple tries in Firefox changed to IE, worked first time. Could just be a coincidence?

  • Thanks op

They're no longer giving keys, so you can't extend any license. you have to install this trial version

Was hoping this would update my existing subscription but not to be.

    • +1

I found a way to do it last time. I can't replicate as I seem to have used this same offer before.

Have you got it on your subscription screen? Try accessing central from inside the app.

Edit: wait - I think I waited until my current subscription expired THEN it let me switch over to the next 6 month one that was sitting ready for use in central.

      • +1

Indeed, I clicked the link in the email and logged into Central - I got a message saying something along the lines of "You already have a different subscription enabled. If you want to merge the subscriptions you can call support. Or, you can easily activate this new subscription [the one from this deal] once the old one is expired."

So I think I've just got a 6 month subscription stockpiled and un-activated until my current 4 months expires.

        • They definitely expire after a certain time frame though

        • Thanks guys.

  • Thank op

  • oh no… just uninstalled my expired 2015 BitDefender and re-installed MSE. Now it seems I have to reverse the process huh!

    Tks OP!

When mine runs out I'm going back to the free version of Bitdefender. I think I actually prefer it without all the stupid extras and constant popups.

guys i cant get this to work, can someone post me steps… when i signed up, it send me a email but no key

    • +1

This happened to me last time. I can't remember what I did but I think there's a link which forces you to create an account which you then use to sign in.

  • Isn't there always a link to a free 6 month key? I've set up PCs several times last year and all I did was a Google search for bitdefender 6 month key and I'll always find one of these links that email you a key.

    • Not any more unfortunately.

Need to create an account and then download a unique installation file.

  • Will it have any trouble with my free malware bytes?

    • +1

While it's considered bad practice to run two AV programs at once, I've worked on lots of machines that run MalwareBytes and BitDefender and never seen it cause any problems - except for instances that won't really apply to you (some Enterprise-managed BitDefender installs complain if they detect MalwareBytes on a machine).

  • I wonder if this will get my rid of the dnsunlocker virus so i can use my main computer again : /

    • +1

AV software like this will help to prevent you from getting dnsunlocker in the first place, but once it's already infected it's an uphill battle to do a good cleanup. The better option is to back up EVERYTHING, then run an app like JellyBean Key Finder to make sure you have all your product keys, then wipe the machine and start over.

If you insist on trying to clean it up, I suggest running these free tools: Avira PC Cleaner, Sophos Virus Removal Tool, Junkware Removal Tool, MalwareBytes, and THEN BitDefender. However this is not a great option as it can take days and give no real guarantees.

When I tried to activate it, it says "This key was already used to generate a subscription.". I still have 3 months on my previous Bitdefender subscription. How do I get this one?

  • I'm still on Bitdefender Total Security 2015. Has anyone updated to the 2016 version (of Total Security or Internet Security) and managed to retain their firewall rules without having to set it all up again?

How does this compare to Microsoft security essentials?

I'm weaned off free BD licenses now. It's too hard to update current subscriptions. You can't just enter a new code and have it reset to 6 months. Have to uninstall and reinstall. Moved to Kaspersky now.

  • I'm having a problem with BD. Can anyone help me?

I'm trying to extract an .exe file out of a .rar archive. BD thinks the exe is a trojan but it's a false positive. It gets disinfected immediately. I want to add an exception so that it stops getting disinfected. But I can't because it's been disinfected and removed from the HDD, so I can't even select the file to exclude it. So I got to critical events which tells me the file was disinfected, and I select Recover to bring the file back. Except 2 seconds later it automatically gets disinfected again. I can repeat this cycle forever, but it will never remember my wish to have it recovered.

And because I can't get it back, I can't ever add an exclusion.

I tried disabling AV, but I still get access denied if I try to extract the file again. It doesn't help. BD's UI is garbage.

  • Who in the world pays for the applications. There are many other ways to get these applications at no cost.
