I second that.
With a bit more. . Get v6. Sucks way way way way stronger.However I found v6 canister dumping mechanism a bit funny and uneasy to use. Maybe is just me.

I've got a DC44 and a DC45. They are exactly the same thing except the DC44 comes with an animal attachment that you'll probably never use (half the width of the normal floor head).
Recently the DC45 was $299 less 10% off (with voucher / coupon code) at Masters. Save yourself $100 or buy the new generation V6 onwards…

Give this a miss, I got the Dyson V6 standard for under $320 late Nov-15 at The Good Guys EBay sale.
I also have the DC44, the only advantage is the battery is hot swappable on the DC44, the V6 "don't recommend" the batteries be hot swappable so it is held on with 2 screws - rather annoying. It gets quite warm if the Turbo mode is used, but picks up more than enough dust on normal mode.
However the suction of the V6 is definitely more superior than the DC44 - less tangle on the motorised head, the V6 also have a wider motorised head so covers more area per movement.
Apparently same model as DC45 which is $288 at HN Bondi Junction NSW
It's only a dc44.. It's not that great……
