Fellow OzBargainers,

I found The Iconic having a half price sale on most of the mens JM shoes, some good deals to be had, especially these tan boots here, which I've been eyeing off for some time.

These look great with Jeans and a shirt - and it's the cheapest I've ever seen them. Not bad considering its free shipping over $50 too!

Might be a good time to get some work shoes for next year too:

JM been disappointing lately. The quality of the leather not what it use to be. The leather creases too easily after the first few wears. After a couple of weeks they look like a shoe uve been wearing for 6 months+. Wouldn't buy another pair unless really cheap (this sale is average) cos they still a comfortable shoes. They just look like crap after a few wears.

    • Yep, I have to agree. The last 3 pairs of JMs I have bought (all in 2015) have deteriorated - creased, cracked and worn leather (beyond what is normal and expected), splitting at seams and one pair where the sole/heal detached.

      • Seems to be hit and miss with them. I find that the shoes I've had that didn't have any 'extra' stitching on them have survived alright.

      • Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Not sure if I can do anything about it though. Not gona spend good money on another pair tho.

      • I used to get JM shoes from Myer years ago for 100 dollars they were great quality back 7 years plus sad to hear they are not what they used to be.

I concur. They wear down quickly at the ball of the foot and the inner sole deteriorates or the glue fails causing the inner sole to slip.

Do you know of any alternative brands with higher quality standards in a similar price bracket? Mainly looking for work business type shoes.

Clarks r a very good shoe. Florsheim as well but not cheap

        • would be great to get deals on clarks. and hush puppies

        • never liked hush puppies. Had a pair ages ago and the leather peeled after a few months. Only shoes I've owed to do that. Never again

        • @Gavman:
Yup, I have only owned one pair of Hush Puppies and after a week of wearing them a small hole developed in the heel. Not too bad….except that every time I took a step you'd hear air squeaking out of the heel…noticeable in an office environment.
Fortunately I got my money back for them.

      • inner sole deteriorates

This is what has happened to my pair after about 1-2 years. That's the first and last time I'll buy JM shoes.

    • Very true. They do however have excellent customer service. I emailed JM as my pair of boots ($159 rrp I think) had fallen apart after approx 18 months, particularly with the cracking on the top of your foot. They sent me a brand new pair without question, I don't think I even gave them proof of purchase.

The second pair were certainly better, and haven't cracked on top so there may have been a problem with the bonding on the first pair.

Having said all that, I wouldn't be buying unless at a significant discount and knowing they won't last too long.

  • I agree with what's mentioned above. Bought three pair on sale last year. Prices were around $40 per pair from what I can remember.

  • I think JM quality fits in with $50-60 price.

The durability is similar to leather shoes I buy from payless for same price. THe only thing extra you get is potentially better design. (looks, comfort)

Also make sure you check the julius Marlow website. They have 20% off including sale shoes. (But 9.99 delivery) . It may be cheaper for some shoes.

    • I didn't comment above, but I have similar experience, in my case the not only the leather but also the insoles came off.
      I wouldn't pay $50 for such a shoe.
