I've been watching the price of these cameras and this seems good to me. It's listed at 61.99 USD which the website converts to $88.52 AUD.
Google translates the USD price to $85.72 AUD so it might be better to pay in USD than to change the currency on the website.
Hopefully someone finds this useful.

  • I wanted to buy go pro to attach to a motorbike and helmet to capture footage while riding overseas to make a video at the end but I'm thinking I could go something like this shoots at 1080p/60fps wonder how the footage compares to a go pro certainly save a lot of money.

Are there many mounts available for this camera do you know ?

    • There are a lot of reviews online and on YouTube with comparison to GoPro.

    • +3

There are heaps of mounting options on the chinese websites. this cheaply and simply converts from screw-type mount to gopro-type mount. Then you can use anything available for gopro.
this one does the same and adds a plastic frame. I'm sure I've seen one that ads a metal frame; it might have been on gearbest. There's also a waterproof casing that has the gopro-type mount.

      • +1

You can grab some of the accessories already bundled with the Xiaomi Yi here.

      • For waterproof casing you better get the original Xiaomi one for the glass lens and better seal. Seems not available from GeekBuying. Here is the Gearbest link: http://www.gearbest.com/action-cameras-sport-dv-accessories/…

        • +5

And it'll probably never arrive with them either.

        • @Clear: Just received my item from Gearbest yesterday. Took 28 days in total. About the same with most of China/HK order.

        • @hotwinter: You're luckier than the rest of us who didn't. There is a reason they got permanently banned from Ozbargain.

        • @Clear: but geekbuying doesn't have the original xiaomi case?

        • @Astro551: They do here

        • @Clear: A$36.63 vs A$26.76? what's the problem there?

        • @hotwinter: Someone needs a price match perhaps?

        • @Clear:

Uh they're not banned? I just saw banggood stuff on the site yesterday and the rep banggood actually posted an item on the 18th?

        • @Serapis: We're talking about Gearbest.

        • @Serapis:

Oh lord… now i kinda get how Steve Harvey felt

    • 1080p/60fps on xiaomi Yi is not as good, even with custom firmware, the 30fps looks better

  • Thanks I've been looking at these. Read a few reviews anyone own one of these that can comment on them?

    • +1

Low light conditions, it gets grainy and blurry. Good picture once you've cranked the bitrate to 35/40 Mbps and raking outdoor sunny videos . Battery life will be about 40-50mins depending if you got WiFi on. Don't skimp out on the waterproof case, get the original one otherwise the camera is going for a swim in there.

    • I have had mine for over 3 months now. I've mainly used it while mounted to a dirt bike and riding some nasty fire trails with lots of jumps and ruts. Ive also created some great timelapse footage of flowers opening and closing e.t.c.
The Camera has been fantastic and I'm really considering getting a second one to mount on my helmet for multiple angle footage.

Accessories are dirt cheap on Ebay (Just use Go-pro equivalent mounts). But as stated above, get the Original waterproof case, not a third party one. And make sure its the 2nd version which has the metal buttons rather than the plastic ones (The plastic ones tended to break easy).

  • Question is - is geekbuying legit for Xiaomi stuff?

    • +5

Yep, every Xiaomi product I've got from them has been legit.

      • +1

        Great, thanks for the clarification!

Guess Geekbuying and Banggood are legit

  • can I use this one as DashCam? what other dash cams are good and recommended by the way guys? thanks

    • +3

This is not an endorsement as I don't have it but I saw that xiaomi have recently released a dashcam version.
      I would recommend the G1W-CB
Here's some info on the camera from this deal as a dashcam

    • Xiaomi have a new dashcam model coming out for around US$80 which looks pretty promising. Might try to get my hands on one to test out.

      • thanks

      • Closer to $65-$70.

        • I assume it has no battery making it cheaper?? The build quality might be lower too due to not having to withstand the forces involved in action sports. /speculation

        • @LJackson: Only a 240mAh battery compared to the 1010mAh found in the action camera. Xiao Yi removed other features like 4K to make it cheaper.

        • @Clear: 4k was never a feature though :/ Was thinking of getting a Yi if they released a model with 4k but settled for the SJCam SJ5000X Elite

      • Link?

        • You can find the dashcams here.

        • And the worlds most misleading photo award goes to that 1296 vs 1080 image in that product description. LOL. On par with a Jenny Craig before & after photo.

    • Xiaomi Yi wont power on automatically

  • Wish I could get one of these to Aus before the 27th, would be a good xmas present

  • -3

as i see in the youtube reviews, GoPro's got better I'mage stabilization!

    • +2

and three times the price right?

    • +1

Not really gopro has no inbuilt stabilization at all.. Seen some video that looks hell shakey from a hero 2 which they didnt fix up in post.

      • Yeah if you want stabilisation SJCams are your best bet.

        • +1

          nope sony is

        • @kungfu_tofu: Except none of their action cams of of that form factor.

    • Did you mean to say Sony? Gopro doesnt have

      • it would be like xiaomi < gopro < sony

    • Microsoft Hyperlapse does magic to shaky footage. Turns the footage into something equivalent to being on a roller coaster ride. Works for both GoPro and Xiaomi Yi.

  • +3

Kind of the regular price I have seen on banggood, however I ended up getting the sony action cam over this.
Still like xiaomi products their powerbanks are great.

    • how much was the Sony action cam?

      • +1

The harvey norman bargain for 148.

        • Data, if you don't mind me asking, what are you gonna use yours for?

I bought a Sony one too, however I don't know which attachment to use for putting it on my motorcycle helmet.

        • +1

          @montorola:

Mount from either xiaomi yi or mobius should work. or gopro adapter

        • +1

          @montorola:
I'm going to use a backpack mount for traveling hiking etc, holiday type stuff maybe some holiday type stuff ie sky diving or rally driving etc

        • @montorola:

The genuine Sony mount is great for helmet mounting, I have the 4k Sony Action Cam + genuine mount and have been using it in car racing for most of this year, awesome results and good flexibility to move and get the best angle etc. Highly recommend

  • The description didn't mention it but from the Photo it looks like its a Z22 model. Apparently Z22 suffers from lens focusing issue, its an easy fix http://blog.oscarliang.net/fix-xiaomi-yi-camera-lens-focus-i…

But if you're lazy you could spend a few dollars more for the Z23 at banggood http://www.banggood.com/Original-XiaoMi-Yi-Z23-Version-Ambar…

    • The one at Geekbuying is the Z23 model.

  • +4

if you dont need it now, i would wait for mushtato for another $99 deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/224664), $10 more for local warranty is worth

    • Mushtato are currently out of stock. They're not expecting the next shipment until the new year.

They will in all likelihood still be quicker than HK/China.

      • 3 weeks isn't that long for shipping. TNT will only take a couple of days and is usually heavily discounted.

  • +3

Lol hardly a deal..its around this price on most online stores

    • It's usually a solid $91 AUD. No this isn't the best deal but that price is rather fixed at most places.

      • Be good if they tossed in a free water proof case. That's a deal

  • Good camera, a mate has one of these and it's great for day time videos. Pretty horrible quality when it gets darker though. The reason I don't like this camera is it doesn't have Australian warranty (not that I am aware of).
Still love my 3 GoPros :P

  • common mic issue with these (maybe older model) but easy fix on youtube

  • What's the delivery times like?

    • Free shipping can take up to 30 days after processing and usually takes 3 weeks on average. With it being Christmas you're more likely to hit the 30 day mark. Couriers like TNT take 3-5 days.

  • They have actually been this price on/off at gearbest and banggood the past month. Still a great deal.
