The problem is that many stores does not have stock.

    • I've found stores around me restock them almost daily, most stores ran out on Wed/Thur last week but by the weekend they restocked pretty much everyday so you might want to go back and ask again. Most staff now enforcing 1 per customer policy though. While the bloody Woolies doesn't bother to restock for the whole week.

    • +1

Agreed. Always the case at my local.

Here's a photo of the offer, if people want/need it:

Ask for a rain check. They were happy to give me one at Coles.

    • legit, that's awesome. what state are you in?

      • QLD

        • -5

how many were you able to do? i just asked for 30 shes like oh its 2 per person max

        • +11

@Chef-Johnson: So you've been the reason why they're out of stock.

        • +1

@Chef-Johnson: Hah, 30 will raise eye brows. I got 2.

        • @ProggerPete: all good got officeworks to pricematch, $4.75 ea but would only do 12

        • @Chef-Johnson:

          12 or 1/2 ?

        • +2

          @Swarlee: 12 packs,

        • @Chef-Johnson:

How'd you prove that other stores had the sale for officeworks to beat them in price?

        • @Swarlee:rang around beforehand woolworths as coles 2 pp. Found store with stock and no limit then braud from officeworks phone order number called store to confirm stock level and yeah

        • +2

          @Chef-Johnson:
Under the law you can not have more than 5 PP in your name, hence why if you ask for 30 they are likley to say no

        • +2

@jimbobaus: true. I asked telstra how many i can activate in my name they said there is no limit as long as its not for illegal activities

        • +5

          @Chef-Johnson:

So the limit only applies if I use it for illegal activities?

        • @Chef-Johnson: >how many were you able to do? i just asked for 30 shes like oh its 2 per person max

They have expiry dates you know.

        • @jimbobaus:

Do you have written evidence of this law? I've had more than five active services in my account for years.

    • +2

I've asked at three Coles so far for a raincheck. None complied (Vic).

    • I dont think these prepaid can be rain checked. I gotten two rain checks previously on separate deals for the prepaids and when I tried to redeem them, they wont honour stating the fine print on the bottom of the rain check no prepaid services.

      good luck!

  • They dont do raincheck @spencer station coles

    • Why? They should, right?

      • +4

I was under the impression that Coles don't give rainchecks for telco products.

        • Ah yes I think I've heard that too.

      • +1

According to them, sim card, recharge card, gift card cant rain check.

  • lol "still only"
Looks so weird in the title..

  • +1

There's heaps at Woolies in QV, Melbourne. Managed to grab a total of 10 for myself.

    • +1

      Thanks Broden.

    • does woolies have no limit per customer?

      • +2

Depends on the sign at the counter / the check out staff. The deal is not in a catalogue.

        • +3

Yeap really depends on the person serving at the counter. But if they tell you it's one per customer just say that it's not advertised in catalogue and therefore there's no restriction on purchase.

  • How do you use these for Google Play credit?

    • And once it's associated with your Google account, you can use Telstra billing on any Android device that you sign in on with that same account. Last time I did this I was able to get a few albums from Google Play and pay family and friends Whatsapp fees for the next 5 years! Nice little bonus!

      • WhatsApp fees??

        Say it isn't so…!

        • +1

lol yeah who pays for whatsapp when the free period is always extended?

        • @CVonC: didn't even know there is a free period. Only paid 1 dollar to download and never have to pay again after that

        • +1

@Jared17: you must have an iPhone

        • @Love a bargain: yes. I see android phones what apps users get different deal

  • I just bought two more.. will use as a christmas present haha.
Coles have always said no to rainchecks on telco stuff for me in the past.

    • same here

  • The problem is that you have to activate them before 26th Jan 16 to get the bonus 5gb data.
If I buy 5 of them I wouldnt be able to use them all.

    • +1

After the 25th you can activate them on the Data Pass offer for 3GB and $30 recharge credit (assuming that offer is still available, which I guess it will be).

    • you can have 5 devices active at any one time.

      • You can have way more than that too! The limit is possibly 30.

        • yeh if you have more than 5 activated you are meant to go in and show ID at a store, I just got Telstra via 24/7 to cancel my dead sims. They were a little reluctant but I was polite and kept restating what I wanted, Rainman style.

        • @nrg2010:

I've had no problems activating so long as I'm logged into my Account. And no Id necessary. I do have a cable broadband/phone phone bundle though.

        • @syousef:
Each time I activate a SIM now I provide my drivers license number.

        • @sween64:

shrug I don't know why I'm not asked for Id. I just figured it must be on file with my broadband bundle.

  • +1

Yep. I got 7 @ one Coles, 6 at another last week.

  • I just bought 2 for the kids @ Coles Elsternwick on Glen Huntley rd in Vic. It was around 5.15pm. Sorry but I didn't ask how many they had left but I saw at least 2.

  • Sold out at Woolworths in Sydney cbd.

  • Yay, I was finally able to buy some (6) at my local coles after several previous trips of "no stock left". 4x March 2017 expiry and 2x October 2017 expiry; so random.

  • IIRC…. If….. When we finish buying $30 worth of plays store apps, we still have $30 worth of credit for calls right?

    • $700 funny money, $200 international calls

      • When activated on Freedom Plus. For use within 28 days.

  • +1

Can you use a Telstra $30 tablet starter kit in your mobile. Then credit me to u to another sim. Thanks

    • EDIT: oh Tablet, I'm not sure

    • +1

Yes. They're exactly the same just different packaging.

      • Thanks

  • So the catalog offer is gone but they're still doing them at $5?

    • Yep.

  • +2

I have a problem with these things. I have the next 6 months sorted with different providers, porting in and out. Tempted to buy so many more at this price :(

    • +2

6 months?! I'm nearly sorted until end November 2017 (have packs for 20 of the next 24 months). The limiting factor is the expiry dates on these starter packs. Hopefully they remove the expiry dates soon, like Vodafone now has non-expiring packs.

    • Do u have to alternate with different providers to keep using these cheap sims starter packs and retain your number?

      • +1

Yeah that's right. The only annoying thing is setting up voicemail. I usually set up the port on the night that my current month is expiring, so I wake up to the new service. The only day this doesn't work is a Sunday.

Port times between Optus and their resellers are longer, so I will always go to a different network so the port time is quicker. For example this month I'm with Amaysim (Optus). Next month will be Telstra, then Optus, then Boost (Telstra), then Vodafone.

I'll probably stop doing this after I've used up those sim packs. It just sucks that these service providers can be so cheap to new customers but are expensive to their existing customers. It's probably saved me about $50 by doing this.

        • Ok thanks. You convinced me to start doing this. Worth the hassle I think for the amount saved. I was on Vodafone sim only for many years as they gave me good discounted deals before. But couple months back they refused to give me any similar deals so I think it's time to move on.

Just have to find more discounted sim starter packs from another provider as I only have these telstra ones at the moment. Is there a way to just use telstra ones after each has expired, and keep the same number?

  • +1

These used to activate in 10 minutes or so and then you can use the credit on Google Play immediately. Great.

It just took me 2 days and about 3 hours of queuing to get a sim activated. The first operator demanded all my personal details (including drivers license number wtf) before blowing me off with a canned "it will be activated within 24 hours". The second couldn't tell time and gave me the same 24 hours copy & paste. When I pointed out it's been 25 hours and not 1 hour he changed his tune to 24-48 hours. I lost it a little when the third did the same and was connected to someone more senior who activated it on the spot.

Remember when you could buy an iPad kit and Telstra live chat would change and activate it for phone use on the spot? Forget that, their current live chat operators won't lift a finger to help you.

After going through all that crap I find out through Telstra Crowdsupport and Whirlpool that it will take 72 hours from activation for the credit to be usable on Google Play. Allegedly to discourage people using these kits for Google Play.

    • +1

      Creditme2u to an older account.

  • Just bought some at Hurstvile Station Coles, they still have a few left.

  • How would I use this with in-app purchases that go over $30? I've had one of these since the last offer that recently expired but I can't seem to work out how I'd purchase iAP things for, let's say $50?

    • +1

Get another pack. Credit me 2 u from one sim to another. You should be able to transfer $29 to the 2nd sim for a total of $59 credit, enough to buy a $50 in app purchase

      • Ah cheers, this was what I needed confirmation on. Thanks!

    • -1

The limit is $20 per transaction.

      • +1

Used to be, this is now about $100

        • Oh that's good news.

  • Thinking I'll get one, just for the access to cheap Village Cinema tickets.

Last time, the access lasted like 3 years, after a single month's prepaid use. They killed off the number a couple of months ago.

    Save big bucks!

    • You could just get a $2 SIM for that.

      • Yeah, did that. $25 free Google credit would be excellent though.

  • If Telstra continue doing such deals, other service providers might have to close down. Great to the consumers.

  • What's everyone buying with all these Google Play credits? I'm running out of ideas on what to buy…

  • Does it matter what plan you activate it on if you're planning to use it for Google Play credits? e.g. Freedom plus, simplicity, etc.

    • It doesnt matter.

    • Freedom plus gives you more bang for your buck.

      7.6 gigs of data
$700 Call credit plus unlimited calls to standard Telstra mobiles
      $200 International Credit
plus Roll over your unused data, Call Credit and International Credit to use within your next recharge

      • Can you use another $5 recharge to credit your existing sim and that count as recharge and all your credit is retained?

        • If you mean a $30 Starter Kit that cost you $5, no.

        • @sween64:

Yes I Meant a $30 Starter kit, activated and then credited to the existing one via credit me2u.
Would the fun total use evaporate after 30 days?
So if you wanted to only pay $5 per month would you have to activate it new sim every month and then port your number over?

        • @macfanboy:
Yep. Port out and then back in to Telstra on to the $30 Kit.

        • @macfanboy: Hmmm, interesting. I remember using creditme2u and it extended the validity date by 2 weeks but not sure if the data and the funny money $700 also gets extended.

        • @newozbargainermelb:

Well just got back from trip.
Tried using wifi hot spot and the internet was very slow..!!
Then tried it in a newer phone and bang it was great.

  • +1

Just tried to purchase one from Coles in Wynyard Station. It was ringing in at $30. Looks like the deal may have expired unless there's different pricing in individual stores. Anybody able to confirm?

    • +2

Isn't that a Coles Central (which means it doesn't participate in most sales/discounts)?

    • +2

Coles central and Woolworths central dont participate.
