I purchased the Battlestar Galactica set at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/224033 and it arrived pretty quickly.
We went to settle in for our first BSG session last night, and the first disk won't load.
The second is fine, and I have not checked any of the others.
We have never seen it all from the start (just the occasional episode), so the set won't do what we want to do, and I asked Amazon how to replace the first disc.
The response is that we have to send back the whole lot, and they will refund around A$17 of the postage back to the UK, and it has to get there within 30 days.
Cheapest Oz Post method costs $56.55, with no insurance.
Has anyone managed to get Amazon to bend?
I guess that I could always try to buy/borrow disk 1 from an Ozbargainer :-)
Unfortunately that's the cost of buying from overseas — refund/replacement cost for an unfortunate event can be quite high. I also bought a Chromebook recently from Amazon US and it was DOA. Posting back to US costed me $63.90 with tracking (yes Amazon would want you to use tracking) and they are only reimbursing me $15.
I have heard stories however that people managed to use online chat to get them to reimburse up to $25. In your case for a product that costs less than $40, I don't think that's worth it either.
