Hi all,

I just got an amazing deal that I wanted to share.
I used the following price $1438 ($1409 + $29 shipping) in the link below which is already a great price, and went to JB-HiFi to price match.
After checking with the manager (as it was well below cost) they amazingly they accepted it!
Beside from getting the item in store and not having to wait for shipping, it's also eligible for the $200 cash back as JB-HiFi is an authorised reseller. JB Hi-Fi Receipt

Good luck in getting the same deal!

I asked JB-Hifi about price matching grey imports and they wouldn't do it.

I guess you got lucky ;)

    Well done!

    • I thought www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au were AUS stock not grey imports. Not sure how to find out, and I guess the sales guy at JB did not know too.

      • No, its grey stock:

Q: Why are your products so cheap?

A: Please don't worry, All products listed on eGlobaL are 100% Brand new and Genuine, We do not sell refurbished items unless it is specially mentioned. We do source our products from trusted official dealers around the world and then import to Australia. Therefore we cut most of the middle-man expenses and save directly from your pocket. Moreover, we operate on-line to cut our costs even lower.

        http://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/faq-eglobal.html

They also don't provide manufacturer's warranties, only an e-globaldigital warranty:

Q: How does the warranty work?

A: As products are being imported from overseas, the Original Warranty may not work with your local dealer but eGlobaL does cover your item with our own warranty up to 24-months, as good as the Original Warranty. Simply find the RMA return policy for your reference.

        • Good to know that doing the price-match had another positive effect!

        • @ann82:

Thats why eglobaldigital is the top of the we wont price match at officeworks.

You got lucky with price matching with grey imports. A truly dumb sales person at JB.

    • Dumb sales guys have their advantages!

Pardon my ignorance, would not it be wise to buy a previous generation Full frame for this price? Say, Nikon D610 was around that price (~1200$) at JB few days ago.

If you have canon lenses then no, if you can find a 6d no prob but the 7D is better in build, AF, video, speed so the 7D is better in a lot of ways

      • It's a crop body.

        • And that's why I did not say sensor, as the 6D is better.

        • @zacsg1: it is apples and oranges to me, to each their own I guess.

        • @bargainaus: 7D is good for the pro, but for the more prosumer it does have the issue of no built in flash so you have to have a flash if you want to do night shots.

    • I lucked out on this deal:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/canon-ef-s-18-200mm-f3-…

      So, it went well together.

  • I'm pretty happy I got a full frame Nikon d610 for $999 after cash back.

    • But you were religiously defending Samsung NX system the other day. :-|

    • Im happy I got the full frame Sony a7 for $300.

      • Sony will get your ass with lenses.

      • Can u plz tell me where and when? Would love to have one

      • I was so happy I got a Nikon D3S for $2. Unfortunately I woke up. ;-)

      • how master ozbargainer?!

  • -3

The NX1 is still my main go to camera. Nikon and canon have got a lot of crap lenses you have to filter through to find the good ones, then be prepared to pay through the nose for them. Not to mention I feel like I've stepped back in time 10 years when using the Nikon.

  • Excuse my misunderstanding if that's so. But why not buy a full frame camera with this or a bit more price. And if one wants to go for crop frame only then what's wrong with Nikon D5500 which is around 300-400$ cheaper than this one? Except no. of focal points (which is less important when compared with 39 to 61), D5500 is better in all senses I think.

Really depends on what you want to shoot. For instance, if you want to do wildlife photography, you will actually prefer a crop body that can shoot fast and is relatively weatherproof (for outdoor use in varying condition). With it's excellent ruggedness, high shooting rate and best in class focus system, the 7d mk ii is ideal for a wildlife photographer. It's also useful for sports photography or shooting any subject where you need to take a lot of shots in very little time. For the prosumer who has the money for crop, I'd recommend the 70d because the 7d mk ii is pretty excessive, but for the working professional, it can make an excellent second body (or even first body depending on what they are shooting).

      • I was looking at the 70D as it was $1399 at JB. Getting the 7D on the same budget made sense at the time.

Except no. of focal points (which is less important when compared with 39 to 61), D5500 is better in all senses I think.

5500D is 5fps whereas 7dmkII is 10fps. For anyone who cares about fps that's a pretty big difference.

      • +1

Yep yep, and also the 7D mark II is weather sealed to shoot in the rain.

        • +1

Yeah, and actually looking closer at the 39 AF points on the D5500 (oops, said 5500D in my first post) only 9 of them are cross type. On the 7DmkII all 65 are cross type. That's a pretty massive difference in AF capability too.

        • +1

          @Evil-Elmo:

The Canon 7D has the best weather sealing of any Canon crop camera and is one of the best there is for build.

Does anyone know if you showed the OPs receipt to another JB-Hifi whether they have to match it?

  • +3

After DSE were selling the 7D MKII for $980 ($780 after cashback) cameras seem so expensive. Back to reality and proper prices I must go though!

Isn't everything, when it comes to electronics, so expensive in Australia? We're the most ripped off people in the world. And to add insult to injury, our deep-pocketed, greedy electronics business owners do all they can to point out that buying grey stock will result in losing warranty so they deliberately inflate their prices. Not only that, some of them (I am talking about you here, Gerry Harvey) tried to lobby the government to put tax on online purchases so that they discourage Aussies from buying stuff from overseas online dealers. Bloody selfish bastards!

  • Please remove. JB Hi Fi won't repeat their mistake and price match grey imports.

  • Just tried to use the receipt posted by OP and no luck. Best I got was $1999 at Ted.
