          @CVonC:

Because Freedom Plus comes with $700 of call credit and unlimited SMS.

  • Didn't scan at Woolworth's Coorparoo 4151 QLD. It scanned at full price $30.

Perhaps it's only a special at selected states?

    • Have tried in some stores in Mel, all $5.

    • Works at Woolies Forest Lake. There was no sign or anything out. I asked for a price check at the counter and it scanned at $5. Maybe the one that you tried is out of stock and they scanned a different one.

I think it should be nationwide.

Now waiting for Optus or someone else to go on special for $5. :)

  • Anyone get any @ Woolworths Town Hall or @ Woolworths Met Centre??

    • Townhall woolie is all gone, none left.
      Might have to try Coles.

  • With Coles, Woolworths and HN doing these deals, I'm surprised Officeworks haven't jumped on the bandwagon.

    • It's better without them on the bandwagon, because you can get them to price beat the others by 5%, whereas if they just set their price to $5 then it would be the same price as everyone else. Also, Harvey Norman is selling kits for $10 instead of Coles and Woolies who have them for $5.

      • Not instore. Online it's $10, in-store it's $5.

        • Oh, sorry I thought they were the same. Thanks for clarifying brisdaz.

      • Harvey was scanning up at $5 today also

  • Guys if you are trying to use the $30 on GP, just CM2U to an existing service and spend the credit from there.

    • And lose a $1 in transaction fees.

      • I think its worth the $1 to know that you will be able to make GP purchases immediately without issues.

  • Hey just so you know, I've just purchased 7 $30 Starter Kits from Woolworths Arkaba (SA), which was all they had at the time and got 6 from Woolworths Unley (SA), pretty sure I saw them going through bundles of 10, but they said they only had 6.

  • Please step me through how I would use these in my mobile phone to create a wifi hotspot to use whilst on holiday.

    (1) Buy Sim.

    (2) Activate it as….? what plan…never used telstra before.

    (3) How to maximise bonus data.

    • +2

1 Yes - buy SIM for $5 (probably get 2)
2 If you are looking for the simple option, just choose - Telstra Pre-Paid Freedom Plus which has 1.3GB data plus currently gets the bonus data (+5GB +1.3GB night) total 7.6GB to use in 30 days
However there are more plans depending on your usage - but if you are just looking for 1 month of data for mobile hotspot for just $5 this is an easy option
Can do this all online - just follow instructions on the SIM packet - all plan options are shown during activation process
3 Make sure you use some at night :-)
Also, you need to activate the SIM before the bonus offer expires in January (and consider getting a second SIM to activate in Jan just before the offer expires)

I assume you know how to make your phone a wifi hotspot (if not, it varies based on phone so just google it)

I don't think you can buy data packs with the Telstra credit, so consider selling it to cover the costs of buying the SIM's or spend it in the Google Play store on apps, movies etc.

      Hope this helps

      • Thanks very much.
Going away for 2 days over christmas and thought that this would be perfect.

        Thanks again.

So if i chuck it in an old android phone, create a wifi hot spot, use it.
What happens after a month, will the phone lose all credit and wait for a recharge?
It won't automatically bill me another $30?

        • That should work fine
After 30 days the SIM will lose all credit - so you will not be able to make calls or use data etc.
It will not recharge automatically unless you set that up
So just use and forget :-)

        • @1stOzBarginer:

So I Have gone to tethering & portable hotspot on my phone.
          ticked portable wi-fi hotspot.
          configured wi-fi hot spot.
logged onto that network on my iPad.
my phone sees that my iPad is connected via the mac address
BUT my iPad can not connect to the internet…!

          What am I doing wrong?

Just realised that i can't go on the internet on my phone also..
          The sim is activated.

        • @macfanboy:
First thing I would try would be rebooting the phone (Telstra thing after activating SIM)
I am assuming the phone is internet compatible - what phone is it?
If you can't get internet on phone, the hotspot won't work either.
Let me know how you go

        • @1stOzBarginer:

          Thanks

          Got it working.

          '#100#'

          Now it works..

        • @macfanboy:
          Happy days 😀

  • With the telstra credit, what's the best way of paying for things over $30?

    • +2

      Get more credit :-)
E.g. get 2 SIM's and credit me2u $29 from one number to the other, to get $59, rinse, repeat
(Maximum spend in Google is $100 per transaction, $500 per month per SIM)

      • Thanks! couldn't have been more detailed :D

      • I thought the max spend is $20 per transaction. Has it been changed? If so, do you link?

        • +1

I bought Pizzey And Knight for $39.95 just yesterday on Telstra billing from a prepaid account.
          https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.pkbirds…

By the way don't buy that app. The data is good but the interface is a buggy mess that makes it frustrating to use.

        • +1

          Maximum was raised to $100

      • From prepaid to prepaid me2u says maximum of $10 per day? How do you send $29 of the $30 starter kit in one go? I'm guessing you do it across multiple days? Also is there any maximum of me2u credit that can be accumulated? So if I'm reading right I can buy a bunch of the $30 starter kits and transfer the credit or am I getting it wrong ?

        • It does require multiple transfers
However I have had some success in the past using the phone transfer and the mobile site transfer to be able to do more than 1 per 24 hours - YMMV
I think the maximum is $5000, but you might want to check that on the wiki
Yes, multiple new SIMs could transfer all the credit to your main number - then just use the new SIMs for data/calls for the rest of the month

  • So I was trying to resist this deal to not be greedy. I stocked up on some $10 kits a while back.

I didn't get the $5 Cashrewards ones, I didn't get the Coles/Woolworths one in the last week.

Finally I decided okay I better get myself some SIMs. It's still going and too good to resist.

I go to Officeworks, assumed they probably already lowered the price to $5 or else I will get a price match. They refused price match claiming it to be a "clearance item" even though I could see no indication of this, they assured me they had already researched it and it's clearance. OK fine whatever I'll go to Coles/Woolworths.

    Got to Coles.
staff: How many do you want?
me: As many as I can.

Comes back with a full stack of 30+ SIM cards.

I said to leave some behind for others, he said don't worry he already left some for others.

He said it's not clearance because they are still getting heaps of stock in, but obviously they are trying to sell as many as they can.

    Got 30+ SIM cards.

    Today is a good day.

    • 30!? What about the expiry mate?

      • late 2017

looks like I'll have to buy a lot more on Google Play

It will last my wife & I until before expiry to do port in/out

  • damn… i wonder if this is still available on boxing day… I really need 4G connection with data…

  • I wonder if porting my number out/in again will solve this damn Google Play/Telstra Air issue?

    • Should do. Give it a shot and let me know if it works.

  • Called 2 Woolies and they both said its $12?

    • They've got some other one in their system thats $12, just ask for the $5 one.

  • Can someone please tell me what stores in SA have the most stock? Need some stuff from GP prefer to get it cheap :)

    • Removed

    • Just got 9 kits from Woolworths Mitcham (SA), expiry on all of them is 02 Nov 2017.

      • Are they the mobile ones? I asked them for the $30 telstra prepaid kits and they showed me orange tablet kit and scanned at $12.

Need to go ask them again for the mobile kits.

        • Yeah they were the mobile ones. But I've gotten tablet kits before and they also scanned at $5.

  • No stock at Woolworths Rundle Mall SA, however I went across to Coles in the mall and they had them also for $5

    • -1

Ha lol, I was the one that cleaned them out, on Boxing Day. Bought 6.

  • If I activate it on the freedom plus plan, will I get 7.6gb data, $700 calls, 200 mins international plus $30 credit which can be used for google play?
