[ORIGIN] Star Wars: Battlefront AUD~$27 (Russian VPN Required)

120

Saw the Mexican VPN post earlier for ~56 AUD… Simply putting the russian VPN on with HOLA VPN brought it to $26 AUD and change enough for me to give this game a chance!

Update
so there was a work around for the audio, but not the text…

I caved and submitted a request for refund, which was instantly approved and funds will be returned in 7 days.

Might stick with the mexican vpns from now on, the russian ones have worked well in the past and are always cheaper than mexico, this is the first time origin has placed a region lock.

Sorry guys

It says polish and Russian languages

  • In Soviet Russia, Russian VPN requires you

  • says that for other games I purchased through vpn… in process of downloading.. would be the first game origin did this with considering everyone using the mexico or foreign vpns for purchase

    • Report back after it's done. Keen to give this a chance for the price.

cheap but i saw on a large facebook page for pc gamer that people where having trouble finding games with people.

sounds and voice are in english but menu and options are in russian.. I a sure there is an option to select english, but to late to search for tonight.

All controls are same as other battlefields.

I stand by the ~$27 Im prepared to work a little more for my bargain

    • They won't have an English language option in the Russian version if it's anything like any of EA's other CIS releases

      • BF3 Russian got English, but was like 4months after release

Stop Promoting HOLA, seriously. Use Tunnel bear. Its 500Mb free data each month. Should be more than enough to buy stuff.

  • There is this post where you can apply parameters to the executable

    http://www.deadlygaming.com/forum/topic/13909-titanfall-comm…

though I am still in the partial download stage where I can run gameplay but not yret fully downloaded the game..

Will try again tomorrow to sort unless someone sorts earlier. either way EA gives full refund after 7 days no questions asked

Perhaps you should have done a bit more research before posting.

    • Those are the command line parameters for Titanfall which uses the Source engine.

Battlefront uses the Frostbite engine so to make it English would be the same as battlefield and medal of honour. Every time the game patches you will need to get the English files off someone and then put them into your game folder. You also need to change the windows registry and tell it to use en-US instead of ru-RU for battlefront.

Another one.. it says in the settings that a game must be completely downloaded and installed to change language, Im still only 50%, but the game becomes playable at ~20%

A conversation over at Reddit shows that Russian versions have some Russian in it with no fix for it. Buy at your own risk here, fellas!

Everything I've seen and read indicates this game is the usual thoughtless EA cash grab.

I'll give it a go when it's on the house, but the population will probably be dead long before then.

    • +3

People always like to bash something especially those youtubers just to get views…but the truth is that if you ask anyone who has the game, they are all having a blast….PEW PEW PEW !!!

The maps are limited but really beautifully made. My only issue with the game is that the DL-44 gun is way too powerful and lots of people abuse it. Some heroes like Boba Fett is also farking OP, easy to get 10-20 kill streaks. And there is no voice chat…

Sure much of it is subjective but the EA pattern emerges:
        - Preorder pistol with same damage as the most powerful endgame weapon and shoots twice as fast. Preorder = 2 shot everyone.
        - Only 2 game modes have players.
        - Very few maps.
        - No campaign mode - if the multiplayer dies the game's got no value. Seriously, a Star Wars game with no story?
        - Need to pay twice as much for the season pass maps. Splitting the already small player population between DLC and non DLC maps.
        - The next Battlefront's already in the works when this one barely has any content yet.

Look at Titanfall, lots of people said they had a blast. Had.

        • Great honest personal opinion.
Been wanting to get the game but didn't want to pay full price but now with your information, I know the shortcomings so will get the game as it's cheap enough.

Sure the game has issues. Some people complain about no campaign mode, but I didnt buy a multiplayer game for the campaign mode. I just wanted to play as the heroes murdering online foot soldiers! I was also worried that this game is shit before taking the plunge. If you ask me if I'll still be playing this 6 months down the track? Im not sure, probably not but im loving it right now and it is my go to game in between games. Why dont you try it since there is Origin Great Game Guarantee. You can refund within 24 hours if it is not for you. Cant see whats stopping you from giving it a go.

Sorry Kats, I'm going to have to disagree with you. As a long, long, long time fan of Battlefront (Battlefront on PS2, Battelfront 2 on the original Xbox), this really fails as a Battlefront game. If it wasn't called Battlefront and was a lot cheaper, I'd have no issues. But the game sucks for what it is. I have 2 hours clocked on the game which I've had for a month. Bobjane nailed it; you get the pre-order pistol which IS a endgame weapon. A headshot from that pistol will kill you. So good luck trying to have a firefight with someone the same level as you who has that pistol.

Unfortunately I may have to agree with you that it failed fans as a true Battlefront game and that the DL-44 is such bullshit. Well, I have my Homing Shot which is another bullshit gun but fun to murder people with. Im almost at Level 25 so it is my turn to use the DL-44 before they nerf the damn gun. Pew Pew Pew !!!!

Thankyou for saying what had to be said. Taking content out of a beloved franchise and calling it 'the coolest new thing' with a ton of hype fanfare does not make a decent game. The people who don't know any better are making this industry a harder and harder hobby to enjoy…. Ironically because the games are easier and easier.

I actually ran into someone who thought that this was the only Battlefront game in existence. Luckily, there were no sporks nearby, with which I could put out their eyes.

  • Nah people Play it heaps of people that added me from battlefield 4 go on play star wars but the maps are limited right now..

I wouldn't touch Hola with a barge pole. Spread the word. As mentioned above there are plenty of free alternatives.

    https://torrentfreak.com/hola-vpn-already-exploited-by-bad-g…

    http://blog.vectranetworks.com/blog/technical-analysis-of-ho…

    "In summary, Hola:

Transforms your PC into a botnet.
Sells your bandwidth to other companies.
Switches your IP into an endpoint for another user. So if a user is looking up CP while using Hola, it can be attributed back to you if it turns out the endpoint he was using was yours. Obviously there is no option to pick endpoints; it's random every time a user opens Hola.'

  • FYI, just switched to a mexican vpn and it ended being 27 USD dollars!

if only the game wasn't garbage.

    • Is it really that shit? the ign review was like a 8/10…

      • +1

Oh man, you know, IGN are always a really trusted source of reviews.

Like that one time they spent the entire review saying how terrible a Dragon Ball Z game was, and that it's disgusting that they think they can get away with releasing the same game from last year for full price, it's a half-assed attempt of a game, etc. And then they gave it 8.7/10.

There was also that article that leaked the scores for a bunch of 2013 games 6 MONTHS before the games were released. And, when the date rolled around, those were the scores to an exact digit.

But my absolute favourite is when they give a game an 8 or lower when everyone else is giving it upwards of 9s, because it was an honest company or small development team, because they couldn't afford (financially or morally) to pay them for their glowing review. In fact, when they give a game like Battlefront an 8, it means that's the only score they can justify after being paid their millions without making it too obvious they're being bought out.

IGN is bought. Plain and simple. Always have been, always will be. I go by the Metacritic user reviews; people who actually paid for the games… Just mentally filter out the 10s and 0s.

        Too much water 7.8/10

  • Better start learning Russian alphabetic language.
