Price tag not the item in the photo? Says D-link DWA-131. Wireless USB adapter.

    • Lol I didn't even notice that. Well picked up.

Thanks for the receipt. 3x items huh? That's Xmas sorted

        • @Expon: ha ha ha.. yeah gift for two and one for me ;)

  • showing $49 online

  • Barge in mate.

  • would these be compatable with medion Powerline 500's ?

    • possibly, but they would probably negotiate at the lowest speed (potentially slowing your current ones down)

      • +2

There's nothing to slow down, even the 500mbit ones have 100mbit ethernet ports…

    • These things normally use a method of encryption so at the very least you would want to make sure they use the same method or do some googling to check compatibility. May not be a simple answer.

  • What is general max speed potential for this?

    • +4

According to SmallNetBuilder, average downlink throughput for EoP adapters are as follows:
      http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/tools/charts/powerline/view

200Mbps adapters with Fast Ethernet ~ 40-60Mbps throughput
500Mbps adapters with Fast Ethernet ~ 70-75Mbps throughput
500Mbps adapters with Gigabit Ethernet ~ 80-85Mbps throughput
600Mbps adapters with Gigabit Ethernet ~ 130-170Mbps throughput
1000Mbps (& greater) adapters with Gigabit Ethernet ~ 150-270Mbps throughput

      • thats about right…. they all have ovehead… tho having said my old 200mbps are more than enuff to stream HD video thru w/o a hic…

    • Max speed depends entirely on the environment. First off the ethernet itself on these things are generally only 100mbps regardless of the fact the products boast 500mbps.

In reality most people using these things will get maybe 1MBps (8mbps) speed if you are in a set of units. A house would normally be a little faster.

If you are after speed, these things aren't normally the best option if you have WiFi nearby. If the only option, then these can get you out of a jam.

      Good price to test.

      • Yeh i know there are too many factors to think about but i think it sounds like the normal wifi range extender might be better.
Someone said its generally about half the speed of previous speed

Ok firstly, I think this is a good deal but I need to bring to your attention about some issues with the TP Link powerlines. I got an AV500 set which is a lifesaver for me. That being said, it suffers from random disconnections maybe once every couple of days, sometimes as much as once a day. I mean it is no biggie. I actually have a script that pings my router just to get some data flowing or if it totally d/c, I would disable and enable lan again to refresh the connection. It could annoy some people. Mine could be a faulty set but it looks like some TP Link models may suffer from this problem. Do some research before spending money even if its $30 (you need two to make it work obviously). But overall I still recommend this over wifi for gaming.

    http://superuser.com/questions/794744/tp-link-powerline-adap…

    • that would be so annoying!!!

      • +1

It did annoy me at the start. But now it is almost second nature. If it d/c while watching youtube, I just click on a shortcut on my desktop (i know i got everything set up to counter this problem) and refresh the lan connection. It takes 30 secs so I dont mind. Small price to pay for under 10ms latency for gaming.

    • Mine drops out occasionally for whatever reason but it's never happened in game

      • +3

Same. I find that the chance of dropping out is higher if there is no data flow. It is extremely random and could happen anytime. But I have never had a d/c during gaming.

are you using the POE near any other appliance. Because the issues you are describing sound like electrical interference. speaking from experience

        • @snailshell:

No. It is not near anything that could potentially have interference. It is plugged in an isolated wall socket. I have also tried a different computer because I thought it might be my onboard lan port giving me issues but the disconnections still occur.

        • @KaTst3R: try switching the poe adaptors over and replacing the Ethernet cable I did this with the Netcomm from netgear and got another 6mths of life out of it and it suffered from random disconnects as well and as a result the random disconnects stopped and worked perfectly

    • try upgrade the firmware… there's a whole process involved where u plug ur ethernet cable into it etc…. take a little time, but well worth the wait. fixed up mine, and even let me prioritise for media or gaming the QoS, bonnus!

      • I have already upgraded the firmware. Do you have a link for the process you are talking about? Thanks

        • no link, just googled it. sorry

    • Mine does too every few days.

Great price on the cuffed leggings… Did they have XL ?

    • Call the manager "Paul" and ask him JV. ;)

    • +1

Bought that as Christmas gift for you JV, lets catchup somewhere :)

      • TA might get jealous…

  • I've been using a Netgear equivalent adapter.
    Pretty awesome stuff.

Wifi doesn't reach my room. But this does =]

    This is not nationwide.

The P6 next to the product indicates this price was manually overridden by the checkout operator. This was probably because the item was under the $15 tag for the D Link clearance item. No other Kmart will honour this deal.

Showing this receipt will not work in most circumstances.

    • Bummer, I was looking for a cheap pair of powerline adaptors!

  • I have 2 Netgear 200's and have since added 2 TPlink 200s. I've tested them and get 60-70 Mbps consistently. It's pretty much impossible to get new wires into the walls here, so these things are perfect. I'd say they're excellent and superior to WIFI as they're more reliable and consistent. WIFI can get glitchy and prone to interference in my experience - the ping can slow down and be can be annoying.
