Crashing on Chrome

For reasons best known to OzBargain's favourite waterlogged turnip, she posted the following question in The Dark, Live Feed & Sidebar Hidden, Depths, of OzBargain's 'Everything Else' forum section - instead of in the 'Computing' section.

Why she didn't ask a Mod to move it, I do not know -

Halp!

I'm using a new laptop and it's been taking some getting used to. Quick facts: using Chrome, running Win 8.1 (nightmare for me), laptop is an Asus F550C. Not sure if this is relevant but I am using a wireless mouse and the built in mousepad thingy cannot be deactivated (like it could be on my old HP Laptop) - I say this might not be relevant because when I type, my hands aren't anywhere near the built in mousepad anyway.. so can't imagine that's causing any conflict. Or could it?

ANYWAY. Word fluff!

Issue: Lately I've been typing away in Chrome and the browser has exited completely, suddenly/randomly. I can't tell whether it's correlating to me hitting certain keys or not - doesn't seem to be.

So confused. Anyone else had this issue? Any tech savvy peeps know how I could investigate or solve it?

It's a PITA obviously because I could be near the end of a lengthy post and it'll be lost just like that.

Isn't just a problem unique to one website either, as far as I've noticed.

So frustrating.

In addition to the good and simple advice of regularly clicking and saving text of any length in the event that you later need to paste, there will - I'm sure, be people here with some very specific RAM and other-related, 'Chrome Crash on 8.1' experience, that - I am also sure, can help.

Please do.

Hopefully, by particular way and around, Turnip and her computer will open new tabs, stay, not crash and stop being a PITA. :)

Also do any crashes appear under chrome://crashes

If not, I'd recommend enabling under Settings -> Advanced -> Automatically Send Usage and Crash Reports to Google and if it's a reoccurring problem they'll have a look into it.

Last bit. I know. Mentioned it here. Vaguely alluded to it above. I hope that she's ok.

I tried to find her post under WT, finally found it but showing as disabled user.
Then when reading OzBargain 2015 Christmas Donations, saw your comment and link.

Gave me a bit of a shock actually.

Hope she has just put OZB on hold for the moment.

I have been keeping a bit of an eye on her account page since her most recent return. Her comments have been cheerful enough in tone, even if a bit of a front given other things.

I give the undoubted joys of OzBargain a rest for a couple of days, and vamoose, she's gone again. :(

If anything specific, on or off OzBargain, happened, certain other people may know and can maybe contact her directly.

In any case, she is resilient. I am proud of her for that.

    Upgrade to Windows 10

    • I think she mentioned being on an extremely modest data plan, at one point.

Also, other than on Pro and Enterprise versions of Windows 10, you can't stop delay updates once upgraded. Lots of angst online about that little bit of Microsoft bastardry. She may have read about that, I suppose, and decided against, for that reason.
      I don't know.
