Someone Drove a Company Truck into Our Wall and Drove off

Hi guys, I'm in need of a bit of help here.
I have a second residence in the inner Melbourne suburbs which is generally unoccupied save for weekends - one of my family checks on the house every day though.
According to our witness, a neighbour who lives across the street saw someone drive a company truck through the wall on Tuesday 1 December at about 11am (we know what company it is, just not sure if I should post it for privacy reasons). We found the scene ourselves later that evening. The backyard wall has been taken out as well as the outdoor toilet. The driver apparently drive in and then away immediately.
We've already contacted the police regarding this matter, but other than the one witness statement, we don't have any other evidence or CCTV. Any subsequent contacts with the police station have been really vague, since we didn't get records of the constable's name or a case number to follow up. Effectively, all they have said is 'wait and we'll be in touch' with no indication of when.

Any advice on how to deal with or follow up on this situation?

Leave it to the popo to sort out..truck won't be hard to find with that sort of damage and the company records will show who was driving.

  • The company will only have a limited number of trucks… they cannot hide if the police investigates! A truck with a damaged chassis will be pretty darn easy to spot.

  • You may want to also check with your insurance if you're covered for this type of event. Maybe what would happen is that a claim would be made on the company's insurance policy. They'd advise you further as to what details you would need. Also are there any businesses in the area? If you can get CCTV footage, that would help alot.

  • Chase up the police as often as you can.

Earlier they get onto things the easier it is. I've had dramas where if they got onto things immediately after the event it would be easy to fix but they often take weeks/months to get around to doing even basic investigation.

I'm not a lawyer so I cannot give you any more advice than just call in and remind the cops you exist as much as you can.

Let the police and your insurance company to handle this.

    • You done what you need to with the police. Just leave that alone now and go to the insurance company. Insurance will chase up the driver of the vehicle to get their money back. At the end o ft he day it doesn't matter if the driver is fined, more important for your building to be fixed.

If you don't have insurance, you've just found out why you should have it.

  • I'm sure the company would be pissed off that their driver busted up the company truck and will be asking them wtf happened.

Silver lining is that no one got physically hurt.

Let the police do their job, last thing you want is to intervene and screw things up.

  • i agree with most of the above, but get the name of the police member responsible

    police are good people

talk to the member dealing with it and help them to help you
