  • Just had one put aside at DSE Churchill for pickup first thing tomorrow. Thanks OP!

    • No worries! You can't go wrong with this deal.

      • Just don't get up-sold on extended warranties…

        • The guy told me the warranty is what made the price go down :/

Does that make me a sucker?

          @spacejames:

I think you were "Served by Scam"

        • @Steptoe: I normally think extended warranties are a scam, but think about this - if the OP's set dies after the initial warranty period, he will be entitled under the extended warranty to a replacement for whatever the current model is at the time - which will no doubt be worth a lot more than $59.80…

I won't be buying the extended warranty with mine when I pick it up, though. ;)

@xyron: My girlfriends sister purchased a Television with extended warranty 2 years ago though Dick Smith. When it started developing lines during the extended warranty period, they simply refunded her the amount she paid for the television. If you read the extended warranty which I assume is the same for this as it was for the television, they will only replace if the replacement item is a similar model and it will not be any more then the price paid. If it breaks in the second year, the OP has just paid $25 to get $59.80 back.

        • @crift85: If that is how the DSE extended warranties work, then yes the OP got ripped off. :(

(would still fanagle an ACL-type claim for replacement though, if that happened).

        • @spacejames: I've got an 8 year-old Uniden UH078SX handheld (designed and engineered in Japan, made in China) that's still going strong. I reckon you'll be right.

        • @xyron: Here's the exact clause from there terms and conditions.

          Replacement Terms

If We elect to replace the Covered Item then We will replace the Covered Item with an identical item or, if an identical item is not available, an item with equivalent specifications to the Covered Item. The cost of replacement will not exceed the original Purchase Price of the Covered Item.

    • You actually managed to get an employee answer the phone?? wow.

    • Why am I getting negged? Are us OzBargainers all supposed to have no jobs or other commitments and be able to drop everything to grab a bargain?

Pretty good price for these! Nice find!
Also, if you do get these, please use them responsibly and follow the CB class licence band plan - don't chit-chat on channels 5 and 35 which are the legislated emergency channels.

  • So these are just like handheld cb radios from when i was kid in the cd radio days.do they have a range how far they work?

    • These ones have a 2 watt TX output

      • What does that mean?

        • entry level are 0.5w
2w will give much greater range

2w out in wide open flat ground could get 10k's, less in buildings/trees/hills etc.

the cheap 2-way radios you had as a kid were likely 27mhz 'AM' radios (different frequency to these that are UHF) and probably only worked up to a 100metres or so.

It looks like it refers to imperial measurements rather than metric, but it should give you the general gist.

Just be aware that UHF signals are affected by things being in the way (ie buildings, hills, etc). The best case distance which is usually advertised on the boxes is what you would get in a perfect situation with clear line-of-sight. It's unlikely you'd get that in reality.

    Are these just walkie talkies?
