Best Visa or Mastercard Points Card Recommendations

Hi all,

Ive got the amex card which racks up points already but find myself constantly missing out on points where many retailers dont accept amex and im forced to use my mastercard.

Unfortunately i have the 28degrees mastercard, great card for obvious reasons but it lacks any rewards points. All other credit cards are bank debit cards and therefore lack points

Therefore i just wanted an easy to setup and good reward points card to use when i need to pay by mastercard or Visa. Preference would be minimal or best no fees per annum. Setting up or per transaction.

I always pay off my cards during the interest free period before the next month ticks over and activates interest, so any cards with the usual interest free period would suit well.

Please advise your recommendations :) if it has travel insurance activation when purchasing flights or holidays even better. Amex has it but sometimea some airlines charge an arm to pay with it. But happy for cards missing travel insurance coverage. My main purpose was to stop paying with the 28 degrees card and get points for my non amex spending.

Many thanks

  • ANZ's Qantas Frequent Flyer platinum earns 0.5 Qantas points per $ with Visa, they often do 50,000 bonus points on sign up and first year free. (Other cards may give more points per $ but the 50k points is one of the highest bonuses I've seen.)

    • I think a credit card which offers non ff points would be preferable i.e. amex redemption store you can get gift cards for most woolies group stores, coles group, fuel places etc, myers.

That way not tied to flying qantas and can take the cheapest airlines/route.

  • Bankwest World Mastercard 1QFF/$1 plus many other extras. Probably the best QFF card on the market

    • Thanks. As per my comment to therooftop above, im thinkinf a non ff reward points card may be preferablr atm than being locked in to fly qantas? so far majority of all my flights ive ever taken I've never had to takr qantas. So either they were too expensive to pop up on searches or didnt service the route anyway.

    • Thanks will check it out. Just thought id get some live on the ground coverage of what the latest /hottest credit card is for users.

  • ING Direct Visa for all paywave purchases under $100. 2% cash back is better than all rewards programs for a VISA/MC.

For all other transactions, ANZ Black — either their rewards scheme or the QFF one. I prefer QFF because I earn so few points from it (most large transactions go on the AMEX) that it's better to pool them in Qantas.
