saw this price at two other stores last few days. Now OP the third store, so should be same price every store

    • also spotted this in Sunshine and Taylors Lake. Bought one but wonder what's the point of this device. The software is a pain to install on Windows (and doesn't support Mac). And they have iOS and Android app, but if you want to use it as music streamer on your smartphone, doesn't that mean you can't go on the internet while using it, so it's rather pointless, unless you're on a plane.

      • but if you want to use it as music streamer on your smartphone, doesn't that mean you can't go on the internet while using it, so it's rather pointless, unless you're on a plane.

If it works like the Seagate Wireless Plus, you could get on the net through the wireless drive acting as a router.

        • Yes, it is supposed to do that.

I bought one, but wondering what to do with it. Most devices support USB OTG if no SD slot.
Added to that , it is junk. The USB side works well, but the app gives the helpful message "Error" when I try to select the device.
There does not seem to be any support for standard file-sharing protocols on the wifi side (FTP, http, smb, dlna, etc would be what a sensible design would have.)
So you must use their app. Which is broken.

[-Designed-] documented by idiots, so no surprise if the code implementation is buggy.

On the bright side, it does work as a cheap 32GB flash drive, and includes a nice wall charger.

EDIT: It turns out the device does have HTTP, SMB and DLNA, but none of these are documented on or in the packaging.

. Anybody managed to set a hotspot using the web interface? (ie lan client mode) I can enter ssid and password, but there is no "connect" button, and it does not happen.
And I still cannot get the Android client to work.

        • @manic:

How do you connect to it using Samba? I have one too. Mine keeps saying connection refused? Is there a common password for it?

Using iOS app and although it kinda works, a ,or of the videos don't stream using the app.

          @dtnvong:
          The manual is here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03744402
I have not tried Samba yet, but there appears to be no password.
Its also running a telnet server! But I don't know the password.

@manic: legend! Thanks so much! I got samba working. Been buying heaps of different portable wifi devices and this is the only one that works with SAMBA! Can now stream all video content the way I want. Use MX Player for android, or nplayer for iOS. All formats supported without needed the crappy HP app.

Ip of server is 10.10.10.254. Mount directory is WiFiDrive. No passwords needed.

        • @dtnvong:
Great! I got samba working to my Mac very easily too, just using the GUI.
Also solved the web interface - was able to get the gadget to join my lan, but unfortunately cannot access samba or http over the lan. Only when using the hp as access point, as you did.

        • @manic: if thryfixed the doco, this is a fantastic mini wireless drive. I reken ive tried mkst of them already

      • wireless does not equal internet, no internet access isn't required.

        • it really for people that bought 8/16gb iphones and dont/cant afford to upgrade…
This gives them a bridge storage solution to hold movies/music that isnt overly a pain in the ass.

Here is a review of the Hp pocket playlist
