Nikon D610 24MP DSLR Camera and $150 Gift Card $1266.55 (after $300 Cashback) Pickup @ JB Hi-Fi

520

JB Hifi has some good prices on Nikon DSLRs at the moment. I couldn't work out how long the reduced prices are valid for but they are currently offering a bonus $150 gift voucher with the purchase of the D610. Nikon also has a $300 cashback on the D610 body despite the JB Hifi product page saying it's only a $50 cashback. I checked it's still valid and the Nikon $300 cashback is valid for purchases up to 31 January 2016.

I bought an ex-display in this deal. I think the current deal is even better for brand new Australian stock. It's an absolutely fabulous camera.

Holy crap that's so cheap for full frame. Go overseas and claim TRS on that baby…sub $1k.

    • Yep, crossed my mind too. The cracker is that you claim TRS on the full $1566 purchase price.

      • Just go somewhere close like NZ; great place to get the camera out ;)

      • Yeah so tempting! I am going to Bali in less than a month :)

    • But when you come back with it dont you need to declare and repay the gst?

      • New items of 900$ or more.

      • Only if you travel with someone else and pool in their GST limit. Otherwise you will have to pay it back as its over $1000.

      • +1

wonder if anyone actually walk to the counter and pay the money bacck…

        • If you don't think you will get caught doesn't mean you don't need to declare. If you get caught there is penalty on top of the 10% GST?

        • Never have and never have been asked…

  • Was about to buy last night with the 5% email voucher..

  • Man that is good… I really want a D750 though, but don't really have the money lol!

Checked and the D750 is there too. Does it also have the $300 cash back? If so it equals $1589 if you include the $150 voucher! Awesome price.
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/cameras/dslr/nikon/nikon-d750-24mp…

D7100 is $849 with $150 voucher. $300 cash back apply to it too?

    • No cashback on D750 sadly

      • lame.

Do you know if the D7100 has a cash back? (sorry can't find the cash back deals).

Looks like the D750 has cash back but with the 24-120 kit only. None for 7100. :(

        • @jinxsphinx:

Ah thanks. It also doesn't look like JB-Hifi have the 24-120 kit deals for D750 and D610 (which is $600 cash back).

        • @Dan83: They might instore but the D750 kit is >$3k!

        • +1

@Dan83: From my experience, you can ask Jb HiFi staff to sell the body and lens separately and show it as a kit deal. They told me that even if I buy the lens within 14 day of the body, they will do so, so that I can claim $600 cashback.

        • @jinxsphinx: Ok, that's way too much for that lens!

  • +4

nikon cash back!!!???? holy mother of god. I did not know this. just noticed the D3300 gets $100 Cash back.

bought 1 of these (body only) today at DSE for $197 and thought that was pretty decent. (only one in stock. it was at the back of the cabinet and I asked the guy to pull it out and scan it)

$100 cash back = $97 for a DSLR body. sweet.

    • +1

Are you sure you didn't get the D3200, as it doesn't have cash back? That's the one I saw at DS for that price.

      • +1

Pretty sure the dick smith was full price. Was after a dslr and that was the only won they had in stock but at retail price.

    • mate which one did you buy, D3300 in DSE is @699 as the ticket stated.

    • Can you please verify that it was actually the D3300 you purchased. I also had one scanned but it was full price $699

      • I bought a D3200 for $197 so I reckon he bought a 3200

    • +2

sorry guys. i stuffed up. was the D3200 which I purchased. saw cash back and was distracted.

  • Man so tempted by this. Been wanting to upgrade from d7100 to FF. Really would prefer the d750 though as I really hate the small coverage area of the AF points on the d610

    • Yeah that's the DSLR I want too. The auto focus on the D610 is my main gripe. It has the D7000 auto focus system, which suffers in low light.

I could sell my D7000 and a few lenses, and almost have enough for the D610 though (including TRS etc etc)…

The D610 would be my landscape camera and my D700 my action camera. Hmmm…

      • From D7100 ideal upgrade will be D750 or D810. My friend was in the same boat as you, he's a prof photographer and was using D7100 for model shoots. He upgraded to D750 3 months ago and could not be any happier.

    • Would you consider selling the d7100? Id be an interested buyer…

      • If I pull the trigger and purchase this, I'll let you know.

        • cheers bud

    • +2

Even though I would rather the D750 also (mainly for improved auto focus), you can't beat this price, and it's still an awesome camera, that will have basically identical image quality as the D750 (which is almost double the price). Just my 2c…

      • Yeah I know! But still that AF is holding me back as I like to shoot action as well.

Plus even though this is so cheap, the only lens I have that is FX is the 50mm f1.8.
Then because I have a FF camera I'd probably be tempted to buy a 24-70 and 70-200 f2.8 (even though I probably don't need those 2 lenses). Then this ~$1200 pruchase ends up costing me over $5k!

Hopefully in 12 months time the d750 comes down in price and I'll worry about it all then :)

        • Haha I know what you mean! Yeah the D7100 is a great camera as it is.

        • But still that AF is holding me back as I like to shoot action as well.

Keep the D7100 for action, use the D610 for landscapes and portraiture. Still less than a D750 and you get the benefit of the extra DX reach and two bodies when you need it. Win-win?

        • Unless you are shooting extreme sports or something it is fine.

        • @Spentgecko07: but its not just the fact that AF on the d750 is better in low light (-3EV vs -1EV) its the actual coverage of the AF points in the frame: http://cdn1.expertreviews.co.uk/sites/expertreviews/files/st…

Usually I tend to focus on a subject that's off centre in the frame, and if I'm going for a shallow DOF its not desirable to focus lock and recompose.

any good deals on lens to go with this camera?

    • you can use the kit lens that usually comes with D600 like Nikkor 24-85mm which is a fx lens.

      I have Nikon D610 ( purchased it for $1566 with $100 cashback)

I got Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 lens (non VC)very nice lens for what I paid

      • cool do you use the tamrom as your prime lens? and non vc is better than vc?

        • vc is stabilisation and it's always good to have that if your shooting at low light but then again it all depends.
24-70 is an amazinglens and it costs about $1000 to buy one and non vc 28-75mm is less than half.

I use 50mm f1.8g as prime. I also have some old cpu lenses too.

        • @codename47: I see. sorry prime was the wrong term used, what i meant was do you use the tamrom for most of your shooting?

        • +1

          @kungfu_tofu: oh okay
yes I do use Tamron for most of my shooting. I have CPL and ND filters for 67mm ring that I always use.
Photos at f2.8 are sharp just as you would expect.

this one was shot at 75mm and f2.8
          https://www.flickr.com/photos/134502205@N08/20194919965/in/a…

50mm f1.8 I use less at this stage.

Anyone know of you can claim this cashback when buying from an ebay seller thats overseas based?

    • It is given that you have to buy local stock via Nikon Australia.

  • +1

Very nice price for an awesome camera! I have Nikon D610 too with Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 and Nikkor 50mm f1.8 lens, love it!

    https://www.flickr.com/photos/134502205@N08/

Some of the recent photos I took

    • I have D610 too, 24-120mm F4 Nikkor lens, but don't feel it's a great lens.

Currently looking to buy Nikon AFS 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 VR.

What do you think of Tamron 28-75mm lens?

      • +3

        Depends on what you shoot.

I have the 85mm 1.8G on the D610 95% of the time for portraits; also have the older 24-120mm which is not too bad when versatility is required; the F4 is a much better lens…

If you want speed and max quality at all times, stick with primes.

      • +2

I only paid $250 for it and by far it has been amazing lens. I have shot many night shots using it.

You can see some of them here:

        https://www.flickr.com/photos/134502205@N08/albums/721576548…

it's very quick and sharp at f2.8

        • Beautiful night shots of Melbourne mate! I purchased a D7100 yesterday, but am taking it back today to swap for the D610 as I was umming and ahhing profusely!

I have actually already purchased the Tamron this morning so it made me smile seeing these photo's. Also ordered the Tamron 15-30mm which looks amazing, also!

        • @Dockit: Thanks mate! I have been taking a lot of photos recently but am not really sure how to fix that view thing in flickr.

What tamron lens did you buy ? 28-75mm f2.8(non VC) or the 24-70mm f2.8 with VC?

Mind you, D7100 is still an awesome camera but if it's only couple of hundred dollars to get the Fx why not!

        • @codename47: Sorry, it appears I actually got my wires crossed as I've been looking at tonnes of lenses, it's the Tokina 28-70mm f/2.8 which I'm getting (also a Nikon 70-210mm as a placeholder til I can get a better tele zoom lens). Having said that, yours are great photos!

I'm definitely getting the Tamron 15-30mm though, looks fantastic!

With cashback and discounts factored in, I think it's $400 more to go the FX. Either way I'm upgrading from my d3100 so it'll be awesome!

        • Great night shots! What a steal that lens is then!?

        • @Dan83: thanks man :)
I earlier had canon 550d and then changed to Nikon D610,sold all my canon stuff.

I paid $250 for it and it was nearly new so I can't complain ! new ones are from 450 I think.

24-70mm f2.8 is awesome too if you can justify the $$

        • Super news question, but why FF over apsc?

        • +1

@ankor: This is a widely debated questions.
          Similar to Mirrorless vs DSLR
          Full frame Vs Cropped sensor.

I personally think this is a WANT if you are hobbyist and it's a NEED if you're a professional photographer.

APSC has a smaller sensor as opposed to the Full frame, hence the difference in:
          Dynamic Range
          Depth of field
          Frame size etc

        • at this price why not?

        • @codename47:

I personally think this is a WANT if you are hobbyist and it's a NEED if you're a professional photographer.

I honestly disagree. I'm a professional photographer, I shoot for money and I've shot many gigs, including a ceremony for a major university using my Olympus OM-D E-M1.

It's not about just getting the largest sensor you can, I agree that the IQ will be better from a FF camera, but it's not that simple. I can take a Nikon D4 to events, but trust me, after a few hours and you're tired from carrying around that brick with a 70-200mm f/2.8, you'll get lazier shots.

I take my Olympus OM-D E-M1 and 75mm f/1.8 for a similar shooting experience and I can shoot forever and not break a sweat.Photography is about being able to capture light and composition, I know people who get better images using a point and shoot than I can with a D4 and $1,000+ lenses.

        • @paulsterio:
Good on you mate, I don't shoot for money. I am more of a hobbyist at this stage. My dad is a professional and have been shooting for about 30 years and thanks to him for giving me my first dslr in 2008.
I bought omd em10 kit, sigma 60mm f2.8 and 25mm f1.8 lens for a friend and used it for a while. I cannot live with evf so I think it's more of mirrorless vs dslr again here, also a personal choice.
I know EM1 is an awesome camera and result is great. If that suits you and you enjoy shooting with it why not? you probably know how iso performs on ff compared to m43.

75mm f1.8 is equivalent to 150mm on 35mm sensor isn't it.I am actually in the market for 70-200mm f2.8 with stabilisation. how does it perform on your d4 ?

      • What do you think of Tamron 28-75mm lens?

Won't be better than the Nikon 24-120mm f/4. If the 24-120mm f/4 isn't good enough for you, then the only real upgrade option is to look at a 24-70mm f/2.8. Otherwise, just shoot primes, get a 35mm, 50mm, 85mm f/1.4 and you'll have the best image quality.

The only limit is how much you're willing to pay. I had a phase where I chased the best image quality, bought a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 ART and was even considering the Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4. These days I shoot with a 20mm f/1.7 on a Panasonic G7 most of the time. I'm happy with all my photos and so are my clients.

No point spending oodles of money and carrying around all that weight unless you're doing exhibitions or printing murals, in my opinion.

        • Sigma Art lenses are awesome!
I haven't used any sony glass but am sure otus and batis are amazing!

I also have a gf6 lumix but am not a mirrorless guy so don't like it much, and it just sits there. Had used sigma 60mm f2.8 m43, olympus 25mm f1.8 and kit 14-42mm lens on it.

  • +1

Definitely a bargain! This camera (on my second one currently) shreds everything south of the D750. Image quality, in particular, is insane…

Great value for money, this deal.

    • Is this better than D750? I own D610, find auto focus is lacking.

      • +1

No, the D750 is "better", if by perception.

Not sure what you find lacking in the AF; I find is great in all applications (except birding; not really into that…), but small kids running around, crappy indoor light etc, no issues. Who shoots in pitch black anyway?

        • +1

D750 is better for someone who needs to have WIFI and more AF points.
D610 doesn't have wifi, so I bought a toshiba flash air card only if am desparate to transfer my photos while am on the go. Mostly I wait till I am done and transfer by connecting directly to the PC which is much faster (specially for raw photos)

      • +1

Is this better than D750? I own D610, find auto focus is lacking.

I've owned a D750 and D600 (basically the same thing as a D610). The image quality is identical (they probably use the same sensors fundamentally). The D750 has slightly better high ISO performance, probably due to software and processing improvements but it's not as much as you think.

The AF on the D750 is definitely better, but ultimately, it depends on what you want to shoot, I find that the AF on my D600 is acceptable for basically everything I do (I'm an events and portrait photographer), but if you shoot action, the D750 would be the way to go.

        • very nice summary mate! can't agree more

  • any chance Davidjone will pric match?

    • Price match on gift card value?

  • What would be a good price for 24-120mm from JB, if I want to claim extra $300.

    Kogan got it for $849.
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/nikon-af-s-nikkor-24-120mm-f4g-…

If I can afford only one lense with this camera for now, which one should I get for shooting outdoors portrait and b.day parties etc.. Not a pro

    • You can look at Sigma 24-105 f4 ART lens as well. It has got very good review.I bought one recently from Digidirect.

      • Thanks Hbaruas… Sigma 24-105 is same price range as Nikon 24-120. Are they similar in specs and quality?

        • +1

Based on the research/ reviews I have read, this lens is equivalent in performance (if not better) to Nikon 24-120 / canon 24-105 L lens!

        • @hbaruas: yeah. don't be tricked though

24-120mm has two variants one with f 3.5-5.6 ED (not very good) and other with f4 (good)

        • @codename47: i was comparing f4 version across the 3 brands.

        • @hbaruas:oh okay. so what's the verdict ?
          Sigma 24-105mm ?
its bit heavy as I heard

        • @codename47: i bought the sigma. you should check reviews .. and even better .. play with other versions if possible before you buy.
yes it is a quite heavy lens .. haven't managed to shoot with it yet ! switched to and waiting for my nikon :-)

    • +1

If I can afford only one lense with this camera for now, which one should I get for shooting outdoors portrait and b.day parties etc..

If you're shooting indoors, then you simply need a flash and you need to learn how to bounce off walls and ceilings. The difference between lenses will be marginal. If you're looking for absolute bargain basement, you might like to look at the Nikon 24-85mm f/3.5 - 4.5G, which I've seen for $300 second hand on Gumtree, sometimes even less. Pair that with a 50mm f/1.8G for around $150 second hand (or $220-ish new) and also get an SB-700 (or a Yongnuo 565EX, if you're feeling brave).

All up, you'll pay less than the $900-ish for the 24-120mm f/4 VR and you'll be making better photos. The difference between beginner and pro-grade photos is not lenses and equipment, it's the usage of light - i.e. flash for indoors.

      • Thanks Paulsterio… For detail info.. Great tips..

  • Checked for D610's availability in Sydney CBD, Macquarie Park. The website says that it is available for collection only at Newcastle Home store which is ~120 kms from here.

Bought the ex display model of this from JB few weeks back. Looks new when I got it. After cash back it was down to $999. Got the 24-85mm as well for $399. Pretty happy with the set. Now to sell my d90 + all the lens I've collected over the years.

    • Yeah, this may suit as I just want start with a lens that can be easy to use. 24-85mm for $399 is the cheapest as even overseas sites and Kogan sells for $669

      • I'd consider getting the sigma 24-105mm art lens. Much better. I got the Nikon lens cause it was half price. Else the sigma lens

        • I heard it's pretty good as well.

I think I got traumatised by DSLRs. I'm having flashbacks to the hazy memory of Dick Smith retail stores.

I went in to castle hill store to order one and paid in full. Extra 3 year warranty for $120 making it 5year warranty.

Gift card $150 will be available to pickup with camera on pickup. He made a note on the receipt for $150 gift card.

Now I should be ablle to get 24-85 lense from jb-hifi from online for $399 with the giftcard if the camera come in sooner..

So stores are taking order if not in stock… Some store selling display for the same price…

  • OOS @ JB Elizabeth st, Melbourne. No more stock until promo expires on Sunday according to salesperson. Grabbed the last one ;)

  • +1

I got it for 1416.55 from Parramatta Westfield store. It's the price after $150 gift card applied. With Nikon cash back, down to $1116.55. Damn good price for a full frame.

    • Do you mind sharing the receipt?

  • Bought one too! With TRS, voucher and cash back, all up it will be less than 1K, which is amazing. Now to wait for the order to be delivered…

  • The guys in JB HI so rude. I try to buy one and get a little bit off. The staff just not interested and deal with other customer as well. Anyway….bad experience….

  • Get $399 from JB..Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens (^Ex-Display) normally $699 with overseas sellers going for more than $550. Few people who ordered said they are brand new. Only online… Limited stock

  • Has anyone who ordered one in received stock, yet?

    • I picked mine up yesterday. It's all charged up, hopefully my Nikkor 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR arrives today

      • Jealous. I don't believe mine has arrived yet, picked up my Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 yesterday, keen to use it! Good luck…

    • yeah.. camera picked up in 2 days ago, lens came yesterday and looks brand new, may be they just put it on display for few days,,,
