Really? I thought flu season is ended.

Also, viruses are responsible for cold/flu.

Flu season starts at around a week prior to Christmas and ends around a week or two after new years. The sickies really help the recover process.

The description in this post is all over the place mixing up viruses, bacteria and fungi.

Haven't read such a paranoid, fear mongering product description like that for a long time…what a load of rubbish!

We may have gone the other extreme in relation to cleanliness, with barely any pathogens for the body to encounter and develop natural immunity against. I wonder whether this has anything to do with the rise in autoimmune and allergic conditions such as anaphylaxis and eczema we're seeing these days.

i don't care, just want free laundry detergent =)

    • Anti-bacterial handwash, sanitizing gel bottles and wipes for shopping trolleys, toilet-seat liners, kick-open toilet doors, etc etc… and now apparently my freshly washed clothes are dangerous too?

    • Unfortunately companies know the power of fear mongering and marketing all too well

  • Flu season is approaching

I hang my clothes outside in the sun. Sunlight kills bacteria and its free ;p

    • for certain skin conditions dermatologists will often recommend washing towels @ 50 or 60 degrees to avoid spreading things to other people.
they said sunlight is not always enough.
not sure if canesten is able to be used in lieu of washing at 50-60 degrees.

cleaning your washing machine with baking soda, white vinegar (hot cycle) will pretty much do the same thing

      Separate cycles I hope.

  • Its a pity these laundry rinses work out so expensive. Its handy being able to put a load of washing on as i leave for work and hang them out when i get home. Without the laundry rinse, the clothes will start to smell if left in the machine for 8 hours.

When I was quite poor a couple of years ago, I started making my own laundry powder - Lux soap flakes and washing soda. No fragrance, and I started using 50'C cycle (front loader). My clothes can be left in the washing machine all day and they don't smell. I did find that if they were double-rinsed (which is cold the 2nd time), then they did get a bit smelly.

I don't buy laundry detergent anymore. Most of the commercial stuff is made up of optical brighteners - it doesn't actually get your clothes any cleaner, it just tricks your eyes slightly. I pretty much wear black clothes all the time, and my homemade detergent doesn't fade them any faster.

      • I use coles eucalyptus wool wash for blacks.

I specify coles because the woolworths one is now more of a conventional detergent and has the brighteners in it.

      • i tried making that recipe, but couldn't find the washing soda - where do you get it from?

        • The major supermarkets always sell washing soda. There was another recipe which included borax, but you don't need it - it's a bit nasty anyway (caustic).

Biggest load of codswallop in that description that I have ever seen. I agree with blahman, they've mixed in everything that might cause illness and none of it is accurate.

  • Used a free sample of this once. It made all my clothing smell like crap.

    • You need to use half what they recommend.

      • That's their fault then. Scumbags want you to buy twice as much.

      • Won't that only half kill the fungal bacteria flu that's plaguing my family??

  • This I believe will solve the arguments. The washing part does work for me.
