Yup but problem is alot of people think all HDMI cables are the same.

MSY cables are very cheaply made and dont even provide detailed information about the cable. The officeworks ones provide semi-detailed specifications as well as mention max bandwidth. Not to mention the warranty process would be flawless.

For most people this doesn't matter but at least there is an officeworks in most locations.

I care more about length/bucks since that matter over the "quality", all of them will work……

The cables are basically all the same.
The signal is digital it either works or it doesnt

My point before was mainly referring to 'quality of build'. It was also nice to find they atleast provided some information on the cable. Not to mention the warranty would be easier at Officeworks.

Dont get me wrong, When your dealing with cables that are under 15m, they are all mostly the same with regards to picture/sound quality.

I have set up entertainment systems for clients that have required me to use cable lengths exceeding 20-30m and both ends have been wired into wall plates. When your dealing with lengths like that you don't want to use cheaply made cables from the wall plates to the TV/Device.

Actually this is true and not true. Since they've removed the 1.3, 1.4, 1.4a specs from display standards it's even harder to work out the quality of the HDMI cables you buy. Some of the them don't even handle ARC, so you don't get the two way communication from smart devices like Consoles and Bluray players.

These state they are with Etnernet, so are 1.4 at least.

The signal is digital it either works or it doesnt

The cheap ones will break a hell of a lot more easily though.
I've bought about six, $2-3 dollar HDMI cables from Ebay. Careless bumping/forceful disconnection broke two and in both cases the connector was dislodged from the plastic sleeve.

        • Comsol are a bit all over the shop. I bought their displayport 1.2 cable and had no luck with my Acer brand 4k monitor.

        • @ruddiger8:
Used some Comsol DP cables (about 20 pieces) last time at work. about 2 connectors snap open and inside just horribly soldered and hot melt glued. Won't touch them in the future if not really desperate.

+1, this is why you only buy Monster cable. It is filled with Nitrogen from Pluto and is gold plated mined from meteoroids.

You just spent $3000 for your band new TV. What's an extra $500 for a cable that will provide you with the best picture quality: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/tv-blu-ray-home-theatre/tv-ac…

I suggest you watch a setup from Monster, and another with the $3 MSY cable - the PQ difference will leave you scratching your head.

    • Don't buy MSY HDMI cables. Had to return three already - ARC wouldn't work properly. Would only buy decent quality ones at least.

Great find! eBay can be a bit cheaper but you have to wait 2-3 weeks for delivery, and Officeworks is local and open late. Mixing bright colours is fantastic if you have lots of devices and unplug them regularly to share between TVs or whatever.

  • Ah, I saw this today and brought some. It was their standard price on the shelves, I did notice the same ones in a basket with the, laughable, $19.88 price. But decent price and how much a HDMI should be. I got a spare few just in case.

Dang no red, would have less lag :P

    • You'd probably be seeing red after installing those anyway :P

I've bought one or two cables from MSY in the past and sometimes they crap out. My ozbargain brain tells me it's so cheap and it's all the same but some times that frugal thinking comes back to bite you in the form of poor quality signals or even no signal at all.

Totally agree, sure HDMI only carrys a digital signal so it works or it doesn't, but sometimes MSY/$1 cables only borderline work and paying a few dollars extra for a 'premium' cable that consistently works is much better than the hassle of getting another one when the cheap one dies, especially when you need to move furniture

Anything over $5/meter is probably getting into diminishing returns though coughmonster cables…

Same, I had a couple of cheapie ones from MSY fail after being swapped repeatedly between my Wii HDMI adapter and a media box. It wasn't even many times, maybe ten swaps. The display would shimmer or lose colours. One had really loose connectors, and a loose connector can damage the port eventually (you'd be angry if saving $1 damaged a $500 gadget.) They're fine if you leave them plugged in all the time, as most people do with Bluray players and home-theatre stuff, but if you're unplugging them regularly I'd go for something better. Some people use the HDMI ports multiple times per day with their laptops, or share a single PS4 between two or three TVs depending on where their family is watching, so a cheap cable could fail prematurely.

Somebody else pointed out too that the cheap cables don't necessarily handle ethernet, audio-return or other signals, so it might work fine for a TV but not for a home theatre setup. I don't have any gear that uses this, but it'd be pretty frustrating spending a thousand bucks on gear then wasting hours trouble-shooting only to find the problem was your cable. This is a problem inherent with the HDMI "standard" so it's not the cable's fault. They keep updating the standard, so an old cable might not work where a new cable will, but nobody knows if a $3 unmarked cable is new or old.

  • Got one from Officeworks Liverpool, plenty still in stock, mostly grey, no more blue. Thanks OP.

    • Got green and purple. That way it won't be nicked from my desk at work. A large number of colours at Wetherill park.
