New bank account for career job

Hi,

Just been offered a new contract for work and I'd like to set up a new bank account which gives me benefits for depositing money. I will on occasion need to transfer money from the account for personal use but with budgeting I can contribute a minimum of $500/week or $2000/month to be saved.

The main benefits I'll be looking towards revolve around travelling, benefits I'm looking towards:

No international ATM withdrawal fees
Free travel insurance
Savings return

Medium term plan is to accumulate funds for an investment property over the next 2-3 years.

I should have looked into this sooner, just want to know what options are available for my said goals?

I'm looking at opening an ING Savings Maximiser with an Orange Everyday account. When depositing $1000/month the perks include 3.5% variable rate, no monthly fees, and free ATM withdrawals anywhere in Australia.

When considering travelling overseas, a Citibank Plus Everyday Account has no withdrawal fees, no monthly fees and no fee free deposit.

But note, the Citibank Plus Everyday Account debit card is not the one that gives free travel insurance. As altomic pointed out here, for that you need the credit card. The combination you are considering is still great.

yep, i was hasty in my OP, I remember travel insurance cost me $200 for 4 weeks in SEA with flightcentre, with a credit card some offer you travel insurance but is it worth the yearly fees if you travel overseas once a year/ once every 2 years/twice a year. But that's another topic! :P

        • Well, they had promotions of "No Annual Fees Ever" in the past. Keep a lookout for this, and when they have it again, apply for it :-)

@bluesky: hmm, just looking into this now, HSBC platinum offers complimentary travel insurance with no annual fees ever, ill be on the lookout! thanks!

        • @donkeydoc: Just went and had a look at the current HSBC offer you referred to. Looks really good. And reward points too!

@bluesky: the reward points are HSBC reward points, works out that for every $1 spent I get 0.5 velocity points, should be more! :P

        • @donkeydoc: true :-) But can tie you over till a better offer comes along
