For domestic flights in USA try booking via https://www.google.com/flights/
If you want dirt cheap fares try booking directly via the budget airlines like Spirit, Frontier or Allegiant. They may have a sale, but who knows. You might need a proxy to access the Allegiant website from Australia. Spirit already has a sale for travel in February with heaps of fares under $50 USD (excluding bags):
