With Novanation being taken off air, I see no reason for DAB+ to exist anymore.

    • It seems daft009 is the only other person with a good taste in music. What a shame.

    Nice design!

Why don't they include AM for areas (i.e. 95% of australia) where DAB doesn't work.
But a telescopic antenna is handy.

Got one previously, like very much and will consider as it has a great standby life . A spare as part of blackout/emergency strategy ..local ABC.. also for when cricket is on.. won't miss Tony lol. Yes I do have a battery light radio with spare batteries.

PS good idea to check contents in store I had to return the first one due to damage of somesort saves a trip.

    • How's the reception?
I suspect there won't be much expansion of the DAB broadcast area (the regional stations are kicking up too much of a stink). The internet will kill most of it (regional & DAB).

Cricket is the reason I'd consider it, but alas with no AM, it's useless outside of the small DAB metro footprint.

      • I brought the unit at Kira whilst on hols. The reception was fair, in Brisbane Good and effect just past digital range at Ipswich.

Stuff the internet and what may be greedy [some] internet providers and driven by 'just business ex minister' for everyone to pay for what should be free as a community good. Radio

Oh really, you get reception in Kirra? that's impressive.
Internet at home is free, yes on the go you pay, but it's not that BW intensive.
What annoys me is that Grandstand on the internet isn't permitted to broadcast all the live sport they have on Grandstand DAB (I'm looking at you Cricket Australia), which is annoying, since I prefer to listen to the cricket & not The Country Hour or whatever they broadcast in the breaks on local AM,

        • @supabrudda: can agree with you on the Saturday night country. Country hour some useful heads up drift in and out of that programne. As for cricket whilsthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2Ey-h-KUXA
I would rather do something else as a lad I sold news papers papers at the cricket test matches being picked up and delivered back home on every day and every match. Feed my brain with other fodder please. But enjoy

    • I bought one months ago. Personally I found the battery life quite disappointing. Unplugged, I could get no more than 45 minutes of playtime out of it on a full charge. I promptly returned it.

      • So it's a non-removable rechargeable battery? Is there a DC socket as well to power it from a plug pack?

      • does it charge via micro USB? So you can use a powerbank to keep it going?

      • It comes with a micro USB charger that plugs into a wall socket. So you can also charge it via any power source that outputs through micro USB.

  • ignore

      Respond.

      /rebel.

  • Also check before hand DAB is available in your area, as it wasn't in mine.

  • Is DAB+ a solution looking for a problem? Why would I want digital radio?

    • +1

As long as your in a capital city that broadcasts digital radio or have a DAB+ repeater in the other outer suburban areas. Other than for convenience, it will give you extra radio stations and crystal clear radio reception. Especially good as a replacement for AM radio where it gets lots of interference from electrical devices and other things. The alternative to DAB+ digital radio is using internet radio on a computer or mobile phone.

For example my suburb is listed as having no Digital Radio reception on the Digital Radio Plus reception checker. Yet I get 100% perfect digital reception since they installed a DAB+ repeater in line of site from my place and many other areas to cover the blackspots in the outer suburbs.

      • Thanks.
