  • 1-2 week backorder plus $23 standard delivery to most metropolitan areas…

    • Obviously not for the I WANT IT NAAOOOW crowd, and at $242 delivered you're still saving $27 over retail.

      • The problem is whether saving $27 is better in the long run - when problem happens, it's easier to come to the store you buy it from locally?

        • Unless you live somewhere that doesn't have an Apple store, this won't be a problem.

        • I would say NO.

        • make sure you check the warranty on your grey import and good luck !

Grey Import. No deal for me.

"This Product is offered and supplied by Kogan HK Limited pursuant to the Terms and Conditions."
"This Product is an international model imported directly from internationally based distributors. This Product may differ in some respects from other similar products available from local retailers in various countries around the world."

Apple don't care about Grey Imports.

You can walk into any Apple Store around the world with their products and they will repair/replace them.

goto any asia pacific apple store and see/feel the difference !!

I would much prefer an Australian product and an Australian power cable.
That is if there is no problem with your purchase lost or damaged coming from Hong Kong.

Plus the delay issues many have experienced when buying off Kogan.

I've actually had really good experience with Kogan. I bought a couple of iphones and a macbook from kogan and had them in a couple weeks or so, not delayed at all. The mac came with 2 adapters, 1 to convert the extension HK plug to AU, and 1 that attached straight into the power transformer (ie identical to what you would get from apple). The iphones came with AU plugs I think, so maybe they were local stock already

Also had better than local support with them- I got a Sony phone from a friend once, who bought 1 from Kogan, 1 from ebay, both grey. The phone stopped working, and Sony AU refused to help. I contacted Kogan to ask if they could help out, and if they could provide the serial number from the order, so I could check if my phone came from Kogan or ebay (they got mixed up). They said not to worry about it and send it back, and they replaced it with a brand new phone, no questions asked.

From what I hear about Sonys local support, I would have been much worse off getting an Australian Sony phoen

Agreed, they'll repair your device anywhere in the world as long as it is not blacklisted.

      • I've had a few iphones replaced via Apple store bought via kogan without any issue

  • Can you insert or hook up an SD card or External HDD and record stuff from tvOS?

    • No. In fact I'm waiting out to see whether Seagate make their media app for this device so I can play movies off my wireless drive. Anyone know if Chromecast can do that?

      • No sure but you could probably use Plex on this thing.

        • I looked at Plex and you can't install it on the Seagate Wireless Plus drives, looks like just the NAS.

        • On another note, Infuse looks to have some potential :)

    • you can attach your mac (if you have one) via usb and record via quicktime.

Oops … did not see the 23$ delivery … you don't save $50 … only $27 (as the Apple store has free shipping). And no Australian power cable …

same one is $268 at Harvey Norman minus $25 for newsletter bonus which is $248
that's a massive $1.01 saving when you include the insane postage cost from kogan.

existing apple model is below $90? appletv 4 is ard 2.5 times more in cost - is that mainly for 32gb storage? how often would siri be used? wouldnt most existing models be upgradable to the latest atv os as well?

Get it from David Jones with Entertainment Book's 10% discount. Get $250 DJ egift card for $225 from Ent Book+$19 with credit card = $244. That's what I did.

    • Yep. That is the best way to get cheap Aussie stock at the moment.

    • Good to know DJ's have it in store, as only the atv3 is on the website. I gather this is in the 'powered by Dick Smith' section and there's no problem using DJ's gift cards?

        correct

  • Far out that price!! SO obviously the Amazon Fire was big competition for them having Game Apps and also Voice recognition and Alexa —— but the Amazon Fire is how much? I think its still around $99us? I realize its a US item but can someone tell me whats better in this new apple tv please? I am all for it if it offers something better than my Amazon Fire……..?

  • price match office works ? $229.90

  • 243 at HN by using $25 welcome voucher, as I suggested here.

  • No 4k support

    • -2

That would be some serious data. Is that technically possible on the Turnbull NBN?

      • Netflix 4K needs about 25Mbits a second. Heaps of people can get that speed right now

      • If you believe Turnbull yes. If you live in an area relying on NBN FTTN and judging by the results they have got in other countries using that technology, then probably not. Time will tell. :)

      • -1

I am on NBN with INTERNODE 50MBPS bandwidth link. Streaming few available netflix series in 4k. No issue at all. I use 4k tv for that. Also have roku 3 and cromecast though they only support full hd. Anyways, no point in spending $200+ when you can get similar product for less. Get fire tv which support 4k.

  • Any reason to get this over a Roku?
