I thought it said turkey internet.

    • Thanksgiving is long gone. No wonder they're offering 80% off the turkeys.

    • LOL no matter how long I have been a customer I still always giggle when I see that… perhaps for next Thanks Giving they could do a second site with a Turkey theme? LOL

  • And the most insane and outstanding offer

Those seem to be some pretty great deals. Although I haven't looked at dedicated server pricing in a long time!

Where's your network map/details of uplinks though?

    • Just asked one of the technical gurus and he was able to point me to http://bgp.he.net/AS40244 which should give you a good idea.

  • I am learning web development/data science at the moment, would the $0.99 web host be ok for learning? Can I install python (and libraries) and apache spark/hadoop via cPanel?

Was thinking of setting up my own server at home (which I can connect to from work) but not that clued in about IT infrastructure. This might be an easier option?

    • Heya, Shared hosting is really more for static pages, if you were wanting to play with python, libraries etc you would need VPS or higher (so I would say something more like https://turnkeyinternet.net/blackfriday/turbo-cloud-hosted-v… which the $8 USD/month service would be perfect for starting out on and playing around with.

Shared hosting generally doesn't let you install libraries and things where as VPS will :)

    • You probably don't want cPanel as it bundles it's own versions of apache and dependencies onto the system. Setting up your own server at home isn't the easiest option, but it will teach you the most (as would a VPS).

      • Agreed, something like https://secure.turnkeyinternet.net/clients/cart.php?a=add&pi… without any cPanel would be preferable (i.e. just vanilla CentOS 7). As I have had to work around getting non standard things installed on cPanel and you are right… NOOOOOT always fun.

        • thanks for replies.

what about a general wordpress blog or basic websites using html5/css3/javascript(jquery)? will 0.99 package suffice?

  • Insane indeed. 64GB would be more than enough to put the entire OzBargain DB to RAM.

    • HAHA oh yea, I am currently in the process of getting one organised for myself… TOTAL overkill for my sites but going to put ESXi on it and virtualise :D.

And really? I thought the DB would have been bigger than that by now? LOL

      • Nah.

        # du -sh /var/lib/mysql/ozbargain
        3.9G ozbargain

There's also a caching database for things that can be regenerated. Our current DB server only has 4GB RAM + 50GB SAN.

        • Oh wow :) haha that is awesome and BTW high fives thank you for keeping things all running smoothly for us :D I know the whole Aus community appreciates it!

  • I wouldn't bother with this mob, tried to order and was marked as fraud before I could even pay. Got this ridiculous response from them;

There is a large discrepancy between where the services were requested and the address listed on your account. The location of your services must be from the address listed on the account.

So having my home address and using my ISP iiNet sets off alarm bells, no thanks.

    • Wow that is really strange, I will flick them an email as I have only ever seen that happen when I forget to log out of my VPN connection.

Granted in the hosting industry they often have to double check things, but I would have thought they would have fixed this right up for you. Did you try to verify the details with them?

  • Can these deals host Wordpress?
