Prices have been jacked by over double though…

This train set has been ~$17-$19 lately (like every day!)
These lights about $16 every other day
This tree is $180 today. $78 on the 11th

    • +2

Was just about to say the same. Prices are very expensive to start with.

    • +14

The price you pay when your mates a Dick.

      • That's definitely quote of the day!!

The prices are not jacked, they do online deals which amount to more than 50% off usually.
But not all items are in the online catalog either.

Every day the price of that train has fluctuated between ~$17.50 and high $18s. I know because I keep an eye out for when it really dips to post it. Hell, a $17 train set is a bargain in itself.
Also yesterday was the 'Save $15 for orders over $69'… if you were bulk buying the items I listed above, to get it over the $69, you'd then have a further 20% saving on top.

So while the prices might be at some sort of RRP, it certainly doesn't represent the selling price for the last week or 2.

    • OP:

      Train Set - $18.67
      LED Lights - $15.13
      Tree - $82

      See what I mean…?

    Dept of fair trading anyone?

    • +1

Why? If you look at the XMas tree example, it was a different sale. Are we going to sue businesses for having different sales?

      • Depends on whether they are in breach of the law.

        From ACCC site: (https://www.accc.gov.au/business/pricing/displaying-prices)
        Two-price comparison advertising
Businesses often make comparisons between product prices being charged and:
the company's previous pricing (including 'was/now' or 'strike through' pricing or by specifying a particular dollar amount or percentage saving)
        • the 'cost' or wholesale price
        • the competitor's price
        • the recommended retail price (RRP).
Businesses that use such statements must ensure that consumers are not misled about the savings that may be achieved.
Statements such as 'Was $150/Now $100' or '$150 Now $100' are likely to be misleading if products have not been sold at the specified 'before' or 'strike through' prices in a reasonable period immediately before the sale commences.

If they are saying there is an x% saving, then they had better be x% of what they had been previously selling them for if they don't want to fall foul of that law.

  • don't wanna be dicked around anymore after wasting 20 mins this morning

Dick Smith has a habit of cancelling confirmed orders when you go and pick them up saying "pricing errors"
They also have a habit of jacking up prices and then saying 50%

Not shopping at dick smith anymore..

They're most probably not good reasons for neg the deal. For example, I got screwed over by Groupon (something about requiring photo ID to be sent over the net). I remind people they're shitty, but I don't neg the deals.

      • Thats probably an issue with the company you purchased from not with groupon.

I am negging the deal on 2 fronts…

        1. Not the cheapest available as spacebace linked the tree has been on sale for $78 before
        2. I have major issues with retailers that pull the 2 scams I listed initially..

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines

      • Lol yeah I don't chuck out neg votes a lot, and yes Dick can have good sales. This sale helps those that never ever order online, so never see the cheaper prices.

But I always have to laugh at those that neg from my info given, but I haven't negged it myself :P

    • I don't think this is true.
Most of the time its a stock discrepancy issue with online and the stores if you choose click and collect.
Most of the time they do a pricing error they actually honour it or quickly change the status of the item to temporarily sold out.

Unlike officeworks with the seagate 5TB external HDD pricing error…had to wait 2 weeks then called them for them only to tell me it was a human error, totally legal to refund the amount back, even though they did honour the first few 100 or so orders.

plus, dicksmith send you a 2nd confirmation saying the item is ready to be picked up. So they usually never send this unless the items is ready for you.

If you read the comments here (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/220224) they didn't do so well during this week's example.

          Thanks jdr..

Yes I gave customer service a mouthful this morning.

It went along the lines of this..

"I understand pricing errors and have no problems if you reject my order. But you sent an email acknowledging it, then send a second email accepting it and saying the stock is now ready to be picked up, then sent a SMS telling me the order is finalized and ready to be picked up. I drove out and walked in to your store and then only told its a price error.
Most decent retailers would say "sorry we made a mistake" but we will honor our agreement as its not costing us 100s of dollars""
Even section 5.2 of their terms and conditions state..
Each order placed for Products through the Site that we accept constitute a separate legally binding agreement between you and us for the supply of those Products
          http://www.dicksmith.com.au/terms-and-conditions

Dick can go suck a dick..

    Stop with this shit.

  • The amount of effort this company puts into adjusting and readjusting prices all the time, surely they can put that towards something more productive and going towards actually offering the customer something worthwhile.

I can't wait for these guys to kick the bucket, only a matter of time. Maybe then we can pick up some bargains when they are forced to clear out their remaining stock.

  • Can we just stop posting dick deals here?
