Costco (Melbourne) Members Coupons February

120

Various discounts including but not limited to:

  • $50 off a set of 4 Michelin or Bridgestone tyres.
  • $4 off a jug of 1.8kg of Jelly beans
  • $150 off a Casio digital piano with wooden stand

I received it in my email but for some reason it went to the spam folder.

Discussion/debates re whether Costco is value for money; whether it will succeed in Australia; whether the $60 membership price is justified; whether you love or hate Costco to its guts can be found in the last coupon deal —> http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/21596 .

Same as what I have said in the other post: posting the savings doesn't tell you how much is the item. I cannot say this is a bargain.

    • i know, it's so dodgy

This post should be put in the spam folder . Without an actual price it's totally pointless .

  • +2

it's not totally pointless, but it definitely will reduce the number of people who can immediately tell what the prices are. If that is $4 off 1.8 kg of 45 flavour jelly bellies, i just paid $21.99 for a jar at costco, before the new vouchers. I think 1 kg retails outside costco for $30 or $40. So, that's a very nice discount :)

It would be nice if costco put the after discount prices on the vouchers though. it might even get more people into the store for all they know.

    • and not to miss out that there is a membership fee to actually purchase here!

      • I am not a member, but from the sounds of some of the discounts I have heard of you would quickly make that back.

  • I don't understand why Costco prices have to be a secret. It certainly doesn't get me excited to see one in Brisbane.

    • If they at least put the prices of some of their better deals, that'd be great :)

  • Their business model is different from your everyday supermarket. They offer everyday low price to "member" who schedule to go there periodically to buy various goods. They don't want you go there because of one product is on sale. Therefore, they don't want to lure people in base on one product price.

For grocery items, Costco is'nt always cheaper than regular supermarket prices.
But knowing my prices, I did find some items on a good discount.

Sometimes though, the savings weren't buying a slightly larger quantity and trying to find somewhere to store the items.

Some of the items with better discounts. (I forget most of the prices; this is more for people who will be visiting Costco in case they want to look for these items)

jelly bellies - about $22 (or $18 this month) for 1.8 kg, 45 flavours. I think it's $30 or $40 outside for just 1 kg.

jumbo packaged burgers - tended to be a bit salty and twice the size of regular burgers. A large quantity. Good for a bbq with friends?

tasty cheddar - I forget which Brand (Bega? Mainland?) 700g for $6.59

Brie and other such cheeses - good prices but very large portions

Pandaroo mini jelly cups - I forget the quantity but it's about $4.69 for a large plastic jar that holds 2 - 3 times what you would get in stores outside for the same price. Found in the candies section.

    • Aldi don't have specials but you can still get an idea of what most of their prices are. Plus they don't have membership.

I've even heard that Costco often more expensive then Aldi because they mostly stock branded items.

      • There are weekly specials for fresh fruit and vege at my local Aldi's. There are only about 4 of them on any given day but you can get some good bargains if you are patient.

Judging from the comment in the previous thread that Costco's supermarket products are usually about 10% below Coles/Woolworths, Costco definitely sounds more expensive than Aldi. Though of course there's not much to choose from at Aldi, and there are really no bargain in Aldi's meat section.
