The speeds on this are overkill. If you're only transferring text, photos, non HD videos than a cheaper USB will suffice.
The Sandisk Extreme is quite cheap in some places. Try ebay first.
I have the 64GB version and it is excellent! Very fast. It's not like those edge drives which retract when you insert them. I wouldn't say the speeds are overkill though, you can never have enough speed!
This is definitely one of the fastest USB sticks out there and I use it to back up my work VM onto my 128GB key. It will definitely do 245MB/Sec transfer on big files (takes only a few minutes to fill it up) for both read and write. This is about the same speed as a 1st gen SSD.
However, the push and latch mechanism is not the best and will probably do something similar to what you are referring to over time. But still - its fast and cheap.I have been using the Sandisk Extreme 64GB (& smaller sizes) for about 3-4 years & they are Very Good & Very fast.
I plug them into different machines about 10-20 times/day, & have had No problems with them.
About 3-4 weeks ago I bought a few SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB, and have been using them since.
They are VERY FAST (about more than double the write speed of the 64GB Sandisk Extreme) & I am getting over about 200MB/s write speeds with
mixed file sizes but YMMV.
