We're excited to be back with the same 20% discount, but this time we've extended our range with 2 exciting limited-edition flavours:

What's Biltong?

Biltong is an air-dried meat delicacy similar to jerky, traditionally from Africa, made right here in Australia using Aussie beef topside, marinated in our famous spice formula and free from preservatives. Low in fat and high in protein, it's the perfect any-time snack.
The Traditional Sliced Biltong is more moist, tender and less tough than jerky.
The Biltong Snapsticks are slightly tougher and more similar to jerky
Biltong.com.au is probably Australia's largest online retailer of biltong, trading since 2007.

So, what's the deal?

Simply buy 1 kg or more of any of our incredible meat products to get 20% off using the coupon code BILTONG.COM.AU' (enter during checkout)
That means you can buy 1kg of Traditional Biltong ("soft biltong") for $45.59! Usual price $56.99.
The more dear yet incredibly popular Biltong Snapsticks (with 4 different flavour options including 2 limited edition flavours!) become $55.99 per kg. Usual price $69.99.

      Yeah? Which shop?

      • +3

        Capalaba Meats

    • +1

      More info required.
      Where from?

      • +4

        Capalaba Meats

        • +2

          Shows $39.99/KG + $15.00 delivery up to 3KG.

So OPs deal is 60c more if not buying more than 3KG. If buying more OPs has the better better.
With OPs deal you can mix flavours in 250g lots, which is better than Capalaba Meats at 500g lots.

I can't speak for quality or flavour between the two.

        • +1

Nice. Shame they aren't a bit closer to me though.

        • +1

          @malouphix:

Possibly the price mentioned was instore. So good if you are local.

Yes quality itself is another thing. I've tried a few others, and this shop is the only one I've actually placed multiples. Some others I've tried their stokkies were often a bit fatty. I don't eat the fat on them.

That said, those "chilli leaves" item they list on their site did look pretty interesting. I'd try those.

  • +1

Ooh nice. A new stokkie variety too.

  • +2

Thanks, just bought 1KG. I personally prefer geronimo but is okay with biltong as well.

    • I'm a geronimo junky too :D

first time trying biltong and I've heard good things about this seller

      • +1

If you are more a jerky person, you might find the stokkies closer to jerky than biltong. That said the dry grade biltong is pretty well dried too. But still needs cutting

        • +3

had the chilli stokkies before from here - are awesome

  • +4

ordered 1kg of various products - love the mix and match when the $ per gram for different weight packages is almost identical

also great to see the coupon discount works on top of the current product discounts

  • -2

What are the ingredients, does it contain MSG?

  • +2

Love this stuff. Bought over 2kg last time and only halfway through so won't buy anything this time but loved everything I bought - drywors, snapsticks and biltong!

  • +3

I've had this stuff before, it was absolutely awesome. 👌🏼

  • +1

Love your Biltong! Especially love it when it's on special.

  • +1

My teeth hurt after eating this stuff. How do I make my teeth stronger?

    • +1

Bad genetical background I think. Use a grinder to pre-process them then. Probably that kind of food is not your cup of tea.

  • +1

Another loving customer here. Awesome stuff! Good deal, and the customer service from this company is top-notch (just have a read-through of their past deals to see proper customer service in action).

  • A year ago the price was less. What is the reason for pushing up prices for meat? Remember I bought 100 gramm packs of biltongman at Aldi for $5 which end up in $50/kg in total. I think for a bulk buy price could be in the range of $35-40 per kilo.

    • +4

      Hi Michael1983,
There's actually a really good reason. We've been horrified to see meat prices sky-rocket, which really pushed us to increase prices by a very small amount. It takes us almost 3kg to make 1kg of biltong, so for every $1 increase in beef, our product costs almost $3 more :S
The reason for the beef price-hikes are mostly due to a weak Aussie dollar (which means more meat goes to export), plus in the last couple years the floods and drought created a shortage of cattle, not to mention the new free-trade agreements with China, etc.
I hope and pray beef prices will come down.

      • +2

Lol they dont ever come down.

      • +3

Serious question, have you tried making biltong with other meat sources. I reckon kangaroo would work well, being lean. Let me know if you need a taste testing if you venture into this market :)

        • +1

Should get in contact with Ikea. I hear they know a thing or two about using other animals ;)

    • +2

Meats goes up each year, but this year price seems to jump up like crazy for beef. I use to sell my MSA topside $11.99kg but now it jump up to $14.99kg…… Bloody Perth for you….

  • -1

    is it halal??

    • +1

If it was it would say on the packet and site.

    • +3

      Hi billsafi11,

We often use certified-Halal beef and ingredients, and you'll be happy to know that we do not process any pork products whatsoever on our premises.
However, I regret we are not as yet Halal accredited. This is something we are working on and hope to be able to offer in the near future.
      Thank you for your interest.

      • +3

Hi rep I love your products especially the original and chilli stokkies

But please don't do that. I am sure you will find that maybe 97% of your customers do not feel the need to pay extra for abstract religious purposes. Especially when you are already

horrified to see meat prices sky-rocket, which really pushed us to increase prices

and also considering the fragile state of the economy and consumer spending.

If you still feel the need to do this maybe add a surcharge to the halal products for transparency and therefore you would be able to accommodate all customers' (win/win?).

  • I found the Costco's Beef Jerky range is quite salty, not nice. How does this Biltong compare?

  • @biltong2go

Will you accept local pick up?

    I am from Mona Vale.

    • +3

      Hi jiaqi518,

Sure we can do local. For technical reasons there isn't an easy way to do it on the site (yet).
      So here are some options:
      1) When selecting your method of payment, choose Bank Transfer. When you come and collect you and complete payment
      2) Email us your order and we will send you a link for the invoice.
      3) Phone Lorraine on 0413 060 953 and she will take your order by phone.

      Cheers

      • Thanks for your reply.

Do you have EFTPOS to take the money in the store?

And what is your opening hours please?

        • Yes we do Cash, EFTPOS, and Credit Card (Visa and Mastercard).

We are here Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm
and on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm.

There is usually someone around before or after these hours, so if you have trouble getting here during these hours just give us a shout and we can usually make a plan.

        • @biltong2go:

Will it be ok to pick up my order this Thursday or Friday?

We are having dinner at chatswood this week:)

        • @jiaqi518: Hi jiaqi518, There was another customer I emailed about ordering in Chatswood on a Thursday or Friday. Sure it won't be any problem, just please make sure you let us know your order and which day we can have it ready for you. Thanks!

        • @biltong2go:

Thanks so much for your reply. I have just put an order in. See u tomorrow.

        • @jiaqi518: Hi, I'm only aware of 1 order in our system for Chatswood for Thursday, it was for 1kg Smokey BBQ and 1kg Ave Sliced. Was that your order? Therefore there is a chance your order is not ready today at Chatswood.
Please can I have your order number so I can look into it?
We can certainly have it ready for Friday, or we may be able to send it to Chatswood later today?
          Thanks!

        • @biltong2go:

          No. That is not mine…

          Mine is order #58651‏.

          1x Biltong Snapsticks ("Stokkies") - 500g / Smoky BBQ for $35.00 each
          1x Traditional Biltong - "Chilli Garlic" flavour - 1kg / Average Dryness / Sliced for $56.99 each

It have been a hot day today. DO not worry if you can not send it over. I am happy to pick it up from warringah anyway.

  • +1

Ordered my 1kg. Was tempted to go 2kg but i hope you guys have another special :)

  • +2

I love the stuff from here, when i lived in Perth i worked around the corner and would pickup a KG every few weeks. Highly recommend the Chilli Jerky!

  • How does this compare to Asian jerky?

    • +1

Very different ,the asian jerky you've listed is rather sweet and tender. Biltong's aren't as tender depending on how dry you want it as well. The drier it is, the more tough it will be.
Most people i know like either Asian or Western jerky and not both; very subjective.. Each person is different!

      • I like both, when I went to KL will usually buy half kilo of chicken and pork jerky at Oloiya at Petaling Street.

        • I'm asian too but love food LOL. :)

    • +2

      Hi Baebs,

We sell our biltong in Chatswood which has a large Asian community and so from what we understand, Asian jerky is quite sweet.
Our Smokey BBQ snapsticks are the only flavour that is sweet and is quite popular there, but it's not quite the same as Asian Jerky:
      http://biltong.com.au/products/biltong-snapsticks-stokkies

      • Whereabouts in Chatswood, I'd like to try before I buy :)

        • +1

On Thursdays and Fridays we have a stall at the "Chatswood Mall Market". Our stall is near Gloria Jeans on the concourse (which is near the trains). You'll be able to try samples of our different products. Please note that this online discount is for the website only.

  • How spicy is the garlic chilli variety?

    • +4

      Hi OldMateNate,

The strength of the chilli is middle of the road. Unlike jerky where you may just be tasting the spices, biltong is also about enjoying the texture and more of the meat. However, we certainly do get requests for 'extra hot' and we can increase the intensity as a custom batch (allow approximately 1 week for the batch to complete) with a minimum batch size of 2kg

      Thanks :)

  • How hard and dry are the stokkies? Is it like a hard stick you chew on?

    • More or less like jerky hardness wise I find. So yes like a hard stick to chew on. They are lateral strips of meat though unlike jerky which is more cut across the grain though so can be a bit harder to chew through than jerky.

    • The snapsticks are a little bit tough, but not quite as tough and dried out as jerky, and in fact we try to use quality cuts that are more tender (we use beef topside). You do get used to them quite quickly. Otherwise, the 'Traditional' biltong can be ordered sliced up, and is more moist and is a lot easier to chew.

      • I am very curious and intrigued. Perhaps organise a sample mail out sort of promo?

  • Biltong is the food of the Gods - a reminder of growing up in Africa

Delivery is a bit steep unless ordering lot's of kgs

  • How was it compared to geronimo?
The price is quite a steep

    • +1

LOL. How is it compared to Geronimo? Well, cheaper for starters… "The price is quite steep"…

It is different. Personally I kind of felt the geronimo tastes more over processed. I mean jerky is cooked as opposed to air dried like biltong and stokkies. Since I discovered stokkies, I haven't bought jerky since.

  • Any nutritional content listed anywhere? I can't seem to find anything on the webpage, i could be going blind.

  • +2
    • +1

      Cheers mate, order placed :)

  • How similar to Western-style beef jerky is this?

Personally I prefer dry beer jerky, so stuff like Jack Link's is too soft for me.

  • +3

+Vote even just for great staff response.

    • +1

Let me tell you, the after sales service is every bit as good. I had some issues with my order at one point & these guys really went above & beyond to ensure that I was satisfied.

I really like the stokkies, great to see a new flavour…I'll absolutely be ordering from these guys again! :)

  • -3

I love this stuff and this business, normally would have jumped on it for a couple of kgs but since that WHO report I've had to really put the brakes on how much jerky and biltong I eat. It's been harder than quitting smoking! Rep, would love to hear any evidence u have to contradict the report!

    • +1

      Hi georgedn,

      Without studying all the reports,
The reports mostly implicated processed meat, whereas our product is air-dried without preservatives.
Most processed meats and other biltong or jerky manufactures use 'nitrites' or 'nitrates' or curing salts and those have been implicated in cancer for a while now, however, as you may know, we don't use preservatives or 'curing salts'. We use salt, vinegar, and spices.
Some cancer research has implicated the cooking of meat and other foods, whereas our product is not cooked, it's dehydrated.
I do plan to study the reports a bit more closely. For now, compared to other processed meats, ours is almost as natural as you can make it, and is therefore safer. I hope that helps.

      • +2

On the good news side of it, maybe the WHO report will make beef prices plummet :P

Everything in moderation I think is more the answer. Over the years it seems like nearly everything has been shown to increase cancer risk. Other than maybe beer… But I personally would be more worried about eating non-free range chicken than any beef product. On beef though, I'll never knowingly buy grain fed beef and will go out of my way to get grass fed. Those mystery meat based products that they highlighted as the worst though, I mean they have to be occasional foods. They are made out of stuff that in no way would you even touch if you saw them in their raw component states. That said having some occasionally I'm not averse to.

I'm not a big meat eater. I love the biltong, but I don't eat a heap. I do find jerky too highly processed for my liking now though.

      • +1

Actually they specifically call out Biltong as being an example of processed meat:
        http://www.who.int/features/qa/cancer-red-meat/en/

But you're best off reading the full info here (requires free account):
        http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanonc/article/PIIS1470-20…

I find this the most interesting point:

A meta-analysis of colorectal cancer in ten cohort studies reported a statistically significant dose–response relationship, with a 17% increased risk (95% CI 1·05–1·31) per 100 g per day of red meat and an 18% increase (95% CI 1·10–1·28) per 50 g per day of processed meat.

It takes more that 100 g of red meat to make 50 g of biltong.

        Some more interesting reactions:
CSIRO Processed meat, red meat and cancer: 3 important questions to consider
The Australian World Health Organisation red meat warning is irresponsible
Cancer research UK Processed meat and cancer – what you need to know
The Irish Times WHO: Processed meat cancer report message ‘misinterpreted’

TL:DR Eating too much of any red meat might give you poop cancer but they don't know why.

And I just put in an order for a kg of biltong ;)

        • Thanks OZB Al, I appreciate the links and will take a look.
Biltong is usually made with preservatives such as Nitrites and Nitrates which have been previously thought to increase the risk of cancer, but as mentioned we don't use preservatives. However, hopefully after reading everything I may understand better.

  • +1

Is there smaller sample packs? 50g maybe?

  • How do I store them? Is a dry and cool area enough? Can you give me an idea of shelf life?

    • +1

I actually keep mine in the freezer and just pull out what I want to eat. I didn't initially but some ones I got from another seller got mould on them after not too long (they were pretty fatty stokkies that weren't that nice), but since then I just keep them in the freezer.

I might be committing a hideous faux pas though…

    • Hi alebox,

As you may know we don't use preservatives so our products can go mouldy under certain conditions.
If you order one of our moist products, we highly recommend you take it out of the plastic and keep it in the fridge where it will continue to dry out. The freezer is ideal (you may use plastic if freezing).
If you order one of our drier products (e.g. the snapsticks), after opening you shouldn't leave it in the plastic for too long: take it out of the plastic and then keep it cool and dry. A paper bag is best.

If you need a longer shelf-life, freezing is best. It really doesn't take long to bring it to room temperature.

      • Whenever I've bought Stokkies from here I've always just kept them sealed airtight in the bag they came in, never had any problems. Maybe they fare better in a drier climate?

    • +1

Bought 1kg of traditional whole biltong (mix of average and wet) last time and it freezes really well. Don't know if I'm imagining it but it seems to dry out a little quicker after defrosting so this time I'm just going for wet.

I bought my last lot in May and while it's lost some flavour in the freezer since then it's still much tastier than anything I've bought from a butcher or supermarket. I'd recommend buying whole pieces and slicing yourself to keep the flavour even longer.

  • +2

I have to fight my 3yo for the biltong every time it comes out. Whenever we bribe her she'll choose biltong over ice cream, cake or lollies.

  • hrm i got sent the wrong flavour for one of my items got original flavour instead of chakalaka vegetable relish

    • Lucky you. Contact them and I'll expect they'll send you out the correct one. Double bargain

    • +2

      Hi zooboy,

      Thanks for your purchase.
I see Lorraine has replied to your email and will replace it ASAP.

      Thanks and kind regards

    • I guess they ran out of chakalaka.
I received an original flavour which I never ordered too.
Don't really mind though, but wish they had communicated this with me before dispatching it.

      • Dear Tomodomo,
I am sorry for the tardy reply.
I am sending you a PM. Thanks! :) I see you don't allow PMs
I'm sorry to hear you received the wrong flavour. Please accept out apologies for the error. If you would like a replacement you would be entitled to one. Please let us know if we should organise a replacement. I would need your order number.
        Thanks and kind regards

    chill garlic biltong…… soooooo good!

  • +1

Ordered again - Thanks for heads up email, one of the few companies I care to email me :-P

  • +1

Everyone, I just noticed they have that limited Mrs Balls chutney variety back, for those who missed or want it again

  • Hi rep, I just ordered 1KG of the mrs balls chilli chutney, but I then realised the picture on your website is of the original recipe chutney and not the chilli chutney variety, so I'm wondering which one is used? I have ordered expecting "chilli" and spiciness in line with your written title, I wasn't after the mild original recipe, unless you guys add additional chilli to it which is then fine.

    • Hi TRANCE,

Thanks for your purchase. There is chilli added to the chutney to make it into Chilli Chutney. So yes it's definitely "Chilli Chutney" and not just Chutney.

  • i bought the chilli garlic biltong, while it has nice chilli and meaty flavour, it is easily the saltiest biltong i have ever had to the point I can't really eat it :(
was there an error in the batch or is it normally this way?
