So…is jv short for juvenile? I've always wondered.

      • +2

        Nope. Why do you care?

        • No one cares jv. Just wanted to give you a chance to bump up your comment count for the month.

          @sparkles:

          What's it at?

Those things you can just pop in your car stereo straight out, those things you can loan to a mate or on- sell without breaching a licensing law, and check out that sleeve booklet when you first open it

      • I just use my phone these days…

I know people like to jump on the jv-negging bandwagon but I'm with him on this one. Haven't bought a CD for years - I stick then on my phone or my old ipod that stays in the car

    • Defunct ones are still handy to hang in your fruit trees; apparently to ward the birds off. It appears no one bothered to tell the birds though. Never mind; they add a little sparkle on a dull day.

Old school vinyl, when music was recorded in analogue, is amazing. yum yum

However these days, there is no point buying brand new vinyl. it is all from a digital source. defeats the benefits of analogue - in fact it is the worst of all worlds.

I disagree. It's not always about the sound. The cover art is stunning in large physical size, it gives you something real to hold and you can get it signed and display it. I have people who have not seen vinyl in a long time and they gasp and awe about how nice the artwork is. Then there is the ceremony of removing the vinyl and putting it on. And coloured or transparent vinyl looks super cool also!

Thanks for the perspective. For me, it is 100% about the sound quality, whatever the medium, whatever the cost; perfect sound forever! ☺ . I never considered the artwork too much, so thank you for broadening my mind into what other people look for.

I guarantee that in a blind test you couldn't tell the difference between analogue recorded music on vinyl and the same track that had been converted to high quality digital.

I guess you have been checking out Yahoo earlier this morning; tantalised by the "new" Japanese "Zentai" spandex fully masked body suits.

      Not my kinda' thing ;o)

Another reason for buying CD's is for archival purposes. I buy all of my favourite artists' CD's so that I will always have the lossless physical and the ability to rip these into FLAC/WAV/whatever is the lossless format of the day.

Some people don't mind MP3s, and I don't either for the most part, but they are compressed and data is lost. Whether you can hear the lost quality is another issue (most can't).

  • Thanks… bought a bunch of albums I have been waiting to go on special :)

  • Awesome! Thanks OP. It's finally time to buy that Beatles box set and I almost picked it up last week at $299. Glad I waited now its 60 bucks off. Kookookachoo!

The reason I buy CDs is that I started a collection and now I can't stop. Much prefer having something physical for my money.. but I've gone digital for everything else
