    • It's on eBay, mate

      • Cashback via Cashrewards doesn't work 100% of the time so you are not guaranteed to get it for $288.

        • +1

I thought that too once, but since being absolutely religious with closing all browser windows, turning off adblocker, starting a new session and competing the checkout from scratch I've had a 100% pick up rate. YMMV of course.

        • +1

@Tafe: yep that's what I do as well. I think it depends on the website too. eBay is usually pretty consistent for tracking.

    • The previous deal was on Telstra website

    • +2

Not really. One is for Telstra store. OP's is for eBay so $300 + Cashback

    • I was waiting on price to drop on their eBay store so that I can use my $100 eBay voucher from last month.

    • It was mentioned in that deal about 7 hours ago https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/217766?page=1#comment-3199…

      • -2

How does it make any difference ?

      • +1

Bro, I received an email about discounted price and I put a separate deal to let everyone know of this price reduction on TElstra eBay Store, there might be some ozbargainer like me, who would like to use their $50/$100 vouchers from last eBay deal.

So I think there is nothing wrong in sharing a good deal with everyone.

        • -4

Just pointing it out. I don't give a rats ass whether it's dupe or not.

  • This or Samsung Tab S 8.4?

    • Probably this?

mSD card + 16:10 screen would be good for movies (due to fullscreen letterbox with 4:3 ratio), but for anything else, Nexus 9 probably would be better.
I'd argue that AMOLED is better for movies (due to how it can actually display black as black), but some people hate how AMOLED displays colours, so it's arguable in that regard.

RAM wise, tab S has more (which would arguably be wasted due to bloats unless you debloat your touchwiz), but SoC wise, K1 would be far better than 5420.

      • mSD card is the biggest factor for me.

If this had bigger internal memory it might sway the vote a little, but it's only 16GB. That limits a lot that you can do with it.

    • I have the tab s 8.4 and the battery on it is absolutely useless! Search galaxy tab s 8.4 battery drain on google and you will see it is not an uncommon issue.

      I haven't used the Nexus 9 so I won't comment

      • If it is a standby battery issue, you could try debloater and wakelock detector which you can use without rooting the device.

        • Or rely on Doze feature in Marshmallow on the Nexus 9. My old Nexus 7 used to kill itself in standby in 2 days. Now it lasts a week since the Marshmallow update. Good luck waiting for Samsung to update the Tab S (if ever).

        • @willbaba: Not exactly a solution for someone who already own a non-Nexus tablet? Anyways, if it is like the Greenify app or the Smart Manager that Samsung have put in their TouchWiz (on 5.1.1 devices but I think they are porting them in other devices as well), it wouldn't do anything to the system related processes (i.e. NlpWakeLock and NlpCollectorWakeLock) or Google Play Services related wakelocks which tend to be the cause of the battery drain as well (other than awfully designed apps like Facebook or any other SNS apps). You'd require root access for those.

I do agree with slow Samsung update. That said, get a Nexus tablet is not exactly a cheap option for someone who already owns a tablet. You can use Greenify, if you want something that kills apps that run in background (I do agree that without rooting, it's slightly underwhelming, but if you root your device, it does pretty much the similar things?)

    • Not a massive fan of the Tab S. One on the big selling points is the increased contrast of the AMOLED screen and how awesome it apparently is. But in my experience with it no matter what brightness setting you set it to etc. you always end up with black crush making dark videos almost impossible to watch. Plus having the speakers placed exactly where your hands will be holding the tablet is not clever.

      • Always sounds better with headphones anyway.

Where would you put the speakers?

    • +7

It's on their eBay Store, so no dupe

    • -2

I agree. Just because it is the same price on the eBay store with cashback, isnt that deserving of having a separate post.

      • +3

What does it ultimately matter though? I don't see the point of commenting "dupe". There's a report button exactly for that purpose, and then the mods can decide. If anything the comment is more spammy than the original post ever could be, if it was in fact a duplicate.

All those comments achieve is disparaging the OP and discouraging others from posting deals.

        • +1

Fair enough. I just think it should be included in the original post. These sort of deals encourage people to find the deal on the regular store like Target on Ozbargain and then post up the same deal on the eBay store with the only differentiator being you can get cashback which doesn't always track.

Dupe comments are there to let the member know why their post is getting reported and not receiving many upvotes.

        • +1

@ShamelessBargains: Yeah that's fair enough. I still think that "hey, I've reported your post because I think it's a duplicate of this one [link]" would come off far better (and friendlier) rather than "Dupe…………" which I've seen numerous times on this site.

        • @astrodude: Good idea. Would be good for the deal poster to also receive the messages as to why their deal is being reported. I didn't actually report this deal, just thought I would give the poster some info why their deal was getting reported.

Was all in until I saw 16GB non-expandable memory. Shame they have to ruin a great device with lack of useability. 16GB in 2015, really? Who are they, Apple? 16GB which is actually 14GB, then subtract OS data, and app data, and you're left with maybe less than 10GB. Can't even fit a movie on that.

    • +11

Totally illegal to sell 16gb device without expandable slot.

      • lol

      • -2

        How is it illegal?

        • +3

          It's shonky

        • +3

Not just shonky. Against the law.

        • -6

          @Tafe:
          How?

And why the negative votes for challenging baseless claims?

        • +10

          @Shonky:

I think there was a joke there, and you totally missed it.

  • +2

If this was the 32gb version or it had a micro usb it would have been an instabuy.

  • +2

Good post op for those that want to use their vouchers. I suppose you can use otg cables to expand storage somewhat.

  • Argh, I have a 32gig nexus 10 and I love it so I really want at least that much storage if I'm going to pick up the nexus 9. Although I had better hope the nexus 9 is better for games because the nexus 10 can really struggle with intensive games from 2015.

  • +1

nice thing with nexus is android updates …… Google updates , they are generic and frequent so will more likely see android 6 on this unit before a Samsung.
with the $100 voucher …. hmmmm

  • +2

For those worried about storage, the Nexus 9 / Android supports USB OTG, so you can have your movies / music on a separate USB storage device to access when you need it via a USB OTG cable.

The HTC boom speakers on this unit are pretty damn sweet too. The latest update to Android Marshmallow has really improved device performance too.

It's the nicest android tablet I've ever owned / used.

    • +1

      separate USB storage device

Can you use a small HDD? (Ie that draws power from the device?)

      • +1

You sure can. It provides a USB power supply, so any HDD powered by USB will work.

    • Is there another device with all that - particularly the HTC sound, 32GB, AND external slot?

      • +1

Still won't beat a good pair of earphones.

        • It sure won't. It's handy just being able to travel with it and using it for background music.

  • +3

Totally screwed up.. used my $100 ebay voucher on some magic beans. Should have waited.. :(

    • +1

Can you turn it into a beanstalk, climb up it and rob a giant?

  • +1

    Will this have Telstra bloatware?

Is the $49 cover worth it?

How is it to use with a keyboard thingo?

    • +1

Good question: will it be the same as if was purchased from Google? Or will it have Telstra bloatware pre-installed?

      • +4

Not any. I have bought one from Telstra and it's completely bloatware-free. You can unlock the bootloader and flash stock android ROM from Google directly onto it if you are still not sure about it.

        • Do you still the regular pdates then?

        • @realfamilyman: Boy - typing on an android phone… "Do you still GET the regular UPdates then?" (If you unlock it…)

    • +1

$49 for a cover is a total rip off. It doesn't cost them anywhere near that much to make it. Just buy some $10 cover from China.

  • +1

Damn it, bought it $299 on the Telstra website, was waiting for $299 on Telstra eBay to spend my $100 Voucher, but it's too late now.

    • Cancel that first order, if you havn’t received it yet and order it again on eBay

      • Got it, order it and got it overnight. Delivery was super quick.

  • WTF I seemingly bought the last one available from their eBay store!

EDIT: I grabbed one for myself before on Telstra's store and I just bought one for my parents and that's the last one.

  • +1

    Thanks op got one :}
    Anyone recommend a decent cover?

  • +1

Still available at the Telstra Shop
    https://www.telstra.com.au/tablets/tablets-on-a-plan/htc-nex…

Just don't get the carshrewards or ebay vouchers.

    • I was gonna post the same thing.

I ordered it with the $240 off promotion, worked out to be paying $59 for the device. :)

      • $240 off promotion?

      • I was told I couldn't do this :(

        • My order was cancelled as they claimed no stock.

  • What's the catch? Why is Telstra selling these at $299 compared to $479 on the Google Store?

I mean this is the Wifi-only version so it's not like it's the LTE one with carrier-lock to Telstra…

    • Specials.

Google store is selling at MSRP.

      • Thanks. But even compared to Amazon.com the price seems quite cheap, no?

Is Telstra stock the newest build of the Nexus 9? I heard that they updated the power button in the production process some time ago so just wondering whether we're getting the very latest version off the production lines…

  • Sigh.. I might be regretting not picking up one on ebay. I need a tablet by mid December and this might have been it.

The lack of micro sd really put me off though.

  • I usually buy something with a bit of resale value for when I upgrade, think I'd struggle to convince anyone to buy a device limited to 16gb in a year.
