Cheap Way to Print out Small Notes?

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a device that'll print out small notes so that I can read them like when I'm out doing gardening or if I need to give my wife a list of things to buy when she goes to the supermarket. I'd love something that used cheap paper so that I'm not hurting the environment.

The print quality can be low as it'll just be for me to remember things.

Thank you!

  • Post-it notes?

I do shopping lists on the back of envelopes in pencil, then put in recycling.

Notes whilst gardening? An electronic device maybe?

    How about a whiteboard?

If you've got a smartphone you could download a notes-taking app

  • Write them on scrap paper with a pen?

Wouldn't worry about printing small notes, just go for large - $100

    • Yep. Why go to jails caught printing small notes.

Nope, most fake notes are in large denominations so go small - people will be less suspicious of them.

But don't make the mistake of printing $18 dollar notes or they will offer change in $6s and $3s.

  • Sorry, I should have written that I want a device that can print out text I type on my PC onto small 'post-it' size notes.

    Thank you!

      Receipt printer?

  • many printers, like my HP deskjet 3520, have a sliding paper size thing in the paper tray. it allows paper down to 10cm wide.

so you get a guillotine (the easy way) or scissors (little fiddly) and cut A4 paper down to fit the size.

you can vary the length, so when you print you can use "small size paper"

when you print you just need to configure the printing to print to that size..

    Handheld sticker label printer?

You can stick the labels on yourself so you don't forget it when you're at the shops.

  • My printer prints on photo paper… Nothing saying you couldn't quarter an A4 sheet and feed normal paper through it

  • OP Have you considered a DYMO Label printer?

    http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/dymo-labelw…

It prints out small bits of paper, and you can stick it on stuff!

Price can be a bit of an issue at $94 at Officeworks but this one plugs into your PC by USB and it's really easy to use.

  • I subscribed to this Aussie Kickstarter project.

    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/droprinter/droprinter-t…

Won't be delivered until February though.

    • I had one of neat little Nintendo GB printers these many years ago.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy_Printer

was suuper duper fun for about 5 days, after that it got banished to the cupboard and never saw the light of day ever again.

Anyway there was a little printer that was no different to the Game Boy printer except that it was a little more compact (and very, VERY expensive at $300) and could print off little snippets of news, RSS feeds, and could be controlled through IFTTT (cloud integration) but it ended up being pretty mediocre when it was reviewed.

  • I need a device that I can print out typed short pieces of text wirelessly. Also, I need to buy a new printer to print out A4 pieces of paper.

Should I try to get one device that can do both?

Thank you all for the replies!

    • The DroPrinter in the Kickstarter project I mentioned above uses Bluetooth to connect wirelessly. I think it will also have a USB port to connect to PC's and other gadgets.

    • forget about printing small notes. If you want save costs on printing you should just use your phone for small lists and for a4-sized printouts just get yourself a laser printer.

If you want to type notes on a PC and then sync them to your mobile phone, just use Microsoft OneNote, or Evernote, or Google Keep.

      • Thank you!

I know I can use my smartphone to send notes to from my computer, BUT sometimes I NEED to be able to print out rough pieces of notes to give to friends etc.

What's the benefit of buying a laser printer over a normal inkjet?

        • Laser printer costs more up front but the running costs over the longer term are lower.

A basic laser will set you perhaps $44..

It'll come with a starter toner — maybe a few hundred pages. When you run out, you can buy a replacement toner (1000 pages).

The toners themselves cost up to $40~60 depending on brand and yield, and if you buy a generic brand toner it'll set you back just under $18 AUD and a Calidad brand toner will set you back $45, and the Brother-branded toner is $50

  • Always use paper that would otherwise be thrown away - i.e. backs of envelopes, unwanted junk mail with blank back can be made into 4 usable shopping or reminder lists - gather enough & you have a note book.
Use the calendar app. on your mobile to remind your poor wife of what she has to do.
Also , be careful, there's a very good chance that you may receive some answers back that you weren't expecting.

So, does this mean you are still living in Victorian times - where male dominance WAS at the fore ?

    • You're very accurate! My plan was to use paper I was going to throw away, however, I still need a device that can do the printing.

  • Does anyone have some new ideas for me to try? I still haven't bought a device yet.

  • What are my best options now? I had a lot of money issues I had to deal with so I never bought the device.

If it's helpful to anyone, I just noticed this cheap laser printer.
