2015 Christmas Lights / Holiday Lights

Seems this questions is asked regularly in 2008, 2013 with no real good answer other than a pointer to the Chinese websites. I had a look and there are options - anyone here had some experience that is worthwhile? (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/211920 this latest thread was posted in Sept, so hopefully now is a better time)

Looking for a few long strings and with enough time to order from overseas.
I am just surprised at what the usual shops (Bunnings/Big W/Target) charge for low quality lights.

Looking for 200 - 500 led lights that is indoor (and possibly) outdoor friendly.
Also one or two big pieces = say a deer or sled (young kids love it)

Any ideas?

Even the decorating strips could also be interesting? http://www.banggood.com/5M-300-LEDs-SMD-3528-Flexible-LED-St…

  • Dick Smith do inflatables, believe it or not! That $20 Santa is 1.2m high, so not bad, and the other 2 are bigger again

avoid any LEDs that are 240v

100% bet on them being completely unsafe and they will kill you

    speaking from experience.

where are you now? medium with John Edwards.

      • my heart has stopped before so technically I have been killed lol

  • Aldi are selling them now. No Aldi in Perth?

+1 for Aldi. Maybe a OzBarginer can get some and ship them out to you?

As others said careful buying from Chinese websites best to buy from Australia for safety reasons. So avoid eBay as well.

I'd avoid those banggood strips they are in my mind more for putting like under your kitchen cabinets shining down on the stove or bench (Which they are fantastic for).

  • ALDI finally arrived in Perth - a bit of a drive from where I am!
But may be worth a look

Thanks for the 240v ti[ - I agree and go 12/24v . As an aside, I have young kids, and the @#%Q#$%^ sparky that did the second RCD when we bought this house cross wired the RCD, rendering it useless - he left A leaky fuse and melting live wire too that resulted in 1 broken PC PSU + 1 broken dishwasher circuit board | Made me realise something was amiss and we replaced the whole panel - the carnage this dude left is criminal. So yeah, I don't want to take any chances.

  • Whoops - I got the ALDI thing wrong - only next year - 2016 - for WA…
